I played with every setting and tried multiple options I found in this thread for a week to no avail. I have no doubt that its not fully the set's fault and the output of the Apple TV bears some blame, but the ATV working is a deal breaker for me and I've already validated in person that it has NO SOE on the Samsung 6500 series so the 7000 series (I wanted a 64" vs the 60" max size of the 6500) is a no brainier replacement.
I called Sharp tonight (the Aquos Advantedge number) and missed the "regular crew" by about 20 minutes. The person I did speak with however didn't blame the Apple TV at all, but also didn't do much to help, saying I needed to call back during their normal hours to reach someone with a little more knowledge (for whatever that's worth).
On my way home tonight I went to check out the Samsung plasmas, but I was stopped in my tracks by the fact that plasmas use glass and any plasma in my price range wouldn't have an anti-glare coating. With a west facing window, that is a bigger deal breaker.
Here's to hoping I get somewhere with Sharp... At least I know they're not going to point the finger directly at Apple. Coincidentally Apple released an OS updated for the ATV tonight, who knows, maybe the fix is within? As soon as it's installed I'll report back.
Enjoy that Samsung either way.
