Thanks to this forum I was alerted to the Sams Club Auctions for these TVs.
On September 25th I won the LC-60C8470U for $1304. In total the costs broke out like this:
MD sales tax: 78.24
Sams Club Membership: $40
I've seen this TV go for as low as $1200 in the auctions, so don't overpay. Quite a deal considering the lowest I have currently seen this TV in local retail stores is $1900. I was going to wait until November, December, or January to get this TV at end of season prices, but I don't think I will every see it for $1300 at a retail store.
The TV was delivered by Seko on October 8th. Basically, the TV gets to their local warehouse and then you can use their website to schedule a day and time range to deliver. I scheduled for a 10am - 2pm window. He showed up at 5:20pm and dragged it sideways out of the truck. It had obviously been lying on its side horizontally for some time in the truck. He carried it horizontally to just barely inside my front door. I asked him why it was being transported on its side. He said you only need to do that for plasma TVs. I pointed out on the top of the box where it said to only transport it vertically. He said if it is broken you can ask for a replacement.
Anyway, the TV wasn't broken. Whatever you do, don't place the face of the TV on a cushion like it says in the user manual to put the stand on. Just build the stand and then have two people lift the TV out of the packaging and onto the stand. Simple.
So far the TV is great. I'd definitely give my 2010 Panasonic Plasma a nod over this TV, but plasma wasn't really an option for this particular location in my house. I actually tried the FX channel that has been recently discussed here with regards to SOE at all motion control settings with my FIOS and this TV and I agree it is terrible. I'll write more at another time once I give the TV several weeks.
Oh, by the way, I didn't get the TV for 3D, but I give the shutter glasses and their technology a big FAIL. You can actually hear them buzz while you wear them. I guess it is the shutters. Who would design and make this crap?
Update: 10/14/2012: My TV also has the reboot problem where the TV will power cycle. I have seen it 4 times within a week, with about 4 hours of watching per day. It is definitely a reboot and not an HDMI resync, because right after today's reboot, the TV checked for the firmware update again and reminded me that the one released this week is available.
