Thanks. I am definitely going to take a look at the calibration disk when I get some time. I have never done that before and to be honest I somehow don't think I will do a good job with it. But since I now have some settings I am happy with, I can always go back to them if I mess it all up.

I just purchased this TV recently, calibrated it using values from this forum until I liked the picture in MOVIE mode, and started using it for gaming today. It's the 845u but should be almost identical, just a Best Buy variant I believe.

I'll use Resident Evil 6 as an example, but these issues are noticeable in all games...in movie mode, the dedicated gaming mode, or any other mode, the game is choppy, skips frames, and in some modes even has flashing screen tears. This is worst in dynamic, with flashing artifacts and general weirdness all around. I haven't noticed this outside of games, but I haven't used the TV much yet for anything else. On top of this, in games and any other media with dark backgrounds/settings there is some pretty nasty blue-coloured ghosting...I've never seen this before. A good way to view this for yourself is flipping between options on the TV menu - notice the grey bars on the right side of the screen leaving a striking blue ghosty trail behind them. I played with every picture setting one by one and through the process of elimination I found that setting the Motion Enhancement to 240Hz (not Aquamotion) solves this problem...but leaves the picture a little muddy and dim/dull.

Has anyone had these same problems with this TV? Is there another solution or something I'm doing wrong? A defective set? How can I get the "pop" back in 240Hz mode? Every source for information seems to recommend turning all motion enhancements and image processing off to improve picture and performance, yet it seems to have the opposite effect here. I'm just not sure whether I need to return the TV or if this is something I can control with settings.

I'm debating theLC70LE847U for $2348
http://www.buysquad.com/product.aspx?pf_id=LC70LE847U

Seems like a good deal. But the 857U is coming in April 2013. Reading the specs, the only difference seems like the exterior. Are people generally happy with their 70"?
I have a 70" and I still love it! You should too.
Watching a movie on my 70" Sharp is a different experience than watching the same film on my old 55" set. A more theater like experience. And 3D really benefits from the size boost! Had my set for two weeks and no regrets. 80" would be great if it fit my space.wink.gif
post #2047 of 2439
I havent really checked back into this thread since my last replacement.

Thought you all would like to know I got my 3rd 70LE847u and it appears to be just about perfect. There is some minor, and i mean very minor clouding compared to the other 2 sets (which wasn't my issue anywasy) even with the lights completely off and the back light set a little higher than I normally leave it (I usually have it on -8, had it on STD) its barely noticeable in the bottom right of the TV..

The uniformity issue I was having does not appear to be present at all and theres no DSE either.

How is gaming on the LC-70LE8470U? Any issues or input lag?
As long as you have it on game mode no.
I am still having an issue with picture quality and I have determined it has to be DISH, blu rays look great, live HD sporting events couldnt look any better, but then there is the TNT, TBS, even local HD channels that only sometimes look great and other times just plain look bad, like pixilated, and SD, but then the next show may look good. Very frustrating when you know what the TV can do, but can't see it all the time.

One thing I thought may beb the problem is the HD DVR I had from Direct TV had the ability to switch from 720p to 1080 depending on the source, the Hopper cant do that, you either pick 720 or 1080p and go with it, I have tried both and it didnt help. Anyone else have this issue, I'm thinking a return to Direc Tv may be coming although I am getting all the same channels and the whole home dvr for around $55 less per month, but what good is it if it sux

Has anyone bought a TV from buysquad ? Your experience ...

looks like costco dumped the instore price on the 640 down to 1950. the price diff between that and the 2700 for the 847 has me just about ready to take my 847 back... have very many of you guys had both of these in you house? i never use anything more than 120 low, and i dont' see myself using the 3D. i only wonder about the brightness.... i now the numbers aren't realistic, but i do know th CR is listed as a bit higher for the 847. ATM, this is the only thing holding me back. I do like th etv, just don't know if it's worth the 750 premium....

If you've got a good one, it looks good, works well, is set up like you like, I'd stick with it personally. These big screens seem to have lots of individual issues and personally I would not screw with a good thing. But that's just me.
I agree with DeadEd..........also, I think the 847u looks alot nicer than the 640u, I like the metal frame.
i hear you, and that's part of the arguement i have in my head. i'm just have a hard time rationalizing it. I dont' know that everyone else feels this way, but while i do love the tv, it's mostly because of the size. i don't personally find it to have an exceptional picture (it's ok for my bright room) compared to alot of other tv's, so my logic has been that i just don't feel like i should be in the 3k range for an ok set.... i think i can get 98% of the tv for 70% of the price.

i dont' mind the thicker frame as i have to use the base/stand and it sits a foot away from the wall, it almost looks funny being so thin.

Have you calibrated the set to get a better picture?

I've had both, and the 847 has slightly a better picture (in my opinion), but also has 3D. We also like the brushed metal finish. What is your question about brightness? Contrast ratio measurements are marketing magic. If you bought the set at Costco, don't you have 90 days to evaluate it? The 847 at Costco is now on sale online with free shipping for less than 2500. I'd ask for a price adjustement.

If cost is an issue, and you are not interested in 3D, look at the 70 inch Vizio.

I'm guessing the 70 inch glass in the Vizio is a lower end Sharp supplied piece.

The new 8 series has a better and faster processor for the apps in the set, and a thinner frame. My set has been working great. I would try to buy something that large locally. The return policy at Buy Squad is not that great. I would hate to be stuck with something that is messed up out of the box..

First I was looking at purchasing a LC-70LE640U but after getting opinions from 5 different stores and reading through some of this thread, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a LC70LE847U at Cosco for 2499.99 with Free Delivery and 2 years Cosco warranty.

Need a little help as I just set up my 60 LE 847 from Costco. I am having lip synch problems on most channels.

The input is to my Direct TV then via optical and component to my old but reliable Rotel 1056 receiver and then to the TV via component.

I am waiting for the delivery of a Pioneer Elite SC-65 so I can convert to HDMI.

Will this fix the lip synch problem?

Thanks for any help.

My LC-70LE845U is being deliverd by Best Buy today, so I'm dropping out of the KDL....EX700 Thread, and moving over here.
I wanted the larger size and 3D, best of all I had a friend buy the Sony, which has pretty good pq and unlike its LCOS predecessor,
has had no problems.
I still have a few pages to go, and yes, I'm aware that the 845 is somewhat different than the 847 covered here but since there is no 845 owner's thread this will have to do.
So my first question: Has it been decided for sure that the 845's calibration settings are different from the 847 models?
Can anyone help? I think I have an issue with 3D ghosting on my LC- 70LE847U. I've been in a "back and forth" with sharp for some time. I've had a service guy out to replace a two boards on the TV, but that didn't fix the problem. I will attach a pic I took through the 3D glasses that shows the ghosting in one eye (or on one side of any object). Is this amount of ghosting normal? Any and all input is much appreciated. Thanks.

How does your screen look when you are watching a movie? Are you using the Sharp 3D glasses? I had an issue with ghosting and it was resolved after a tech swapped out two boards.
Any ghosting of a 3D Blu Ray movie would be unacceptable to me.
It is the same thing when watching a 3D movie. The backgrounds always look blurry and objects that are "pushed" close to the viewer and obviously ghosted. 2D looks fine, of course. I'm using the Sharp glasses (AN-3DG20). Both pairs show the same thing. Like I mentioned, the service tech changed out the boards (one at a time, mind you, so I never had both new boards in the TV at the same time if I remember correctly). The picture might show the ghosting effect a little stronger than what you would see in person - but it is pretty close. I'm assuming you don't get his sort of ghosting on your set?

I have the 70LE845U. No ghosting on mine.

I have the same and have very few problems. Some of it might be in the mastering of the 3D effects. I don't expect them to always look just like reality. Most are great, though. The 3D effect is sensitive to how close you sit to the screen. It is also susceptible to changes in the darkness
of the backgrounds -- some crushing of black seems necessary to keep the backgrounds from 'crawling'. I tried to re-set more than the 10-point
and the CMS and found that I had to go back to the factory settings for brightness, gamma, motion control, etc. to keep the effects intact...

How does your test image compare with the image I posted? Am I being too picky regarding the 3D ghosting?

Thanks for the comments - also thanks for the settings you posted a while back - they were very helpful and I've been using them for some time! I have tried going back to factory defaults as well for the 3D. Knocking back the sharpness and backlighting helped a little - sort of . Anyway, the ghosting seems to be there no matter what I throw at it. I will try crushing the blacks a bit - I really do notice the "crawling" but it seems obvious in most scenes (yes, dark scenes are worse). Thanks again.

My test screen for 3D has no ghosting. When the tech replaced two boards on my 847, he got on the phone with someone from Sharp to verify that the ghosting was gone. Verified with the 3D test pattern, and while watching a 3D movie that had exhibited ghosting prior to the board swap. If the tech did not confirm that the issue was fixed to your satisfaction, then you should have them come back out to rectify the issue.
