Official Sharp AQUOS LC-60LE847U & LC-70LE847U Owners Thread - Page 77

I was waiting for the new Vizio TV's at 70" and decided to just get the Sharp.

I bought the Sharp LC-70LE847U for $2188 shipped from ECTVs. Might have been a mistake to not wait, but I still don't have a TV and didn't want to wait forever.

Also, I think in 3 years we will all be looking at 4k TVs, maybe not in the 70" range, but who knows!

Hopefully I didn't make a mistake not getting the newest on the block, but at $2200 I doubt the Vizio would be much cheaper and still, it's a Vizio...

Of course you guys seem to be having all sorts of problems in this thread, so fingers crossed for me...

Do these Sets just up and one day all of a sudden begin Clouding, or is it something that once you have it a while and are playing with it and you become more conscious of? I'm wondering if they're just prone to FAIL.... eek.gif I don't see anything but its only been a few hours...

Mine looked perfect in the beginning and after a few weeks i've noticed some clouding but nothing major or annoying.

I just changed Film setting to Standard. I was watching a Geico commercial and noticed some lines on the guys hand. I went to the Film mode and adjusted to "Standard" and that fixed the problem.
I also adjusted Digital Noise: Medium

I used the Disney WOW disc to help with the settings.

I've had the 60" 845 model for about 3 weeks. I'm always playing around with it.

Purchased a 5 year warranty through my Visa credit card for $189. It's worth it. I only got this tv because my 55" Toshiba had problems that weren't repairable so i got my $ back with this warranty.

Absolutely! I wouldn't DARE buy a set these days w/out a warranty. Simply not worth the #@% if it takes a dump...
And thanks again for the reply an info! biggrin.gif

Ya know what I find annoyingly funny as hell, I bought the set for the options, we've got all these enhancements and options and NOBODY seems to use them much... looks like crap w/ most of em on unless I'm gaming... even then Ive had to tweak it and turn most of the nonsense off...
Once again, I love this forum and truly thank you guys for posting and adding to the collective info around here.... My favorite hangout even if I'm just lurking...cool.gif

Just got a call from Sharp. I'll have a tech in my house by next Saturday. smile.gif

OK guys and gals, my 847 should be here next week. So, how is the 3D? On every TV I've seen in the home market, I see terrible, TERRIBLE ghosting. I believe it is called cross talk.

I've always hoped it was weak batteries or lights or something at BB when I test them, but every TV, no matter what the brand seems to have it when I try at the store.

Got my fingers crossed the Sharp, at home is better....

That being said, as we know, the 847 does NOT come with glasses.

What does everyone recommend and why? I don't wear glasses, but have a big head, so small glasses are out.

Has anyone tried some of the generic brands out there?

Thanks to anyone who can post info, I'm sure it's in this thread, but it's like 75 pages now...

I have the 60C847 and need some advise on audio out. My Onkyo TX-SR706 doesnt support 3D so I've ran all my HDMI's into the TV and am using an Optical out running back to my receiver for audio. I'm only getting 2 channel sound from the TV and I cant figure out why. Doesnt matter if its blu-ray or DirecTV, its all 2 channel. I had full 5.1 when it those sources ran straight to the receiver. Is there a setting in the TV that I'm missing? As far as I can tell the fault lies in the TV because everything else checks out.

You need to run the audio from the device to the receiver, not from the TV. Almost all TV's will not take an HDMI in signal and pass it through optical with 5.1 audio. That is only supported from the internal tuner and internal apps.

Sounds like a PITA. Thanks for letting me know, though. I was thinking that was probably the case but wanted to ask first. I guess its time to say screw it and go back to running everything through the receiver again. I only ran to the TV so I could try 3D. Back to the drawing board I suppose. HDMI splitter from the blu-ray perhaps would solve the 3D issue? As for now, though, I'd rather get my 5.1 back along with HD audio.

Thank you!

Some users have had good luck with third party glasses, but I would suggest the Sharp AN3DG20B 3D glasses. The new AN-3DG30 3D glasses are less expensive, but smaller. I have 4 pair of the Sharp 3D glasses, and am pretty happy with them...

Thank you!

You could give this splitter a shot from monoprice:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011306&p_id=8204&seq=1&format=2

Or, shop around for a blu-ray player with 2 hdmi outputs. Prior to upgrading to the 847 and Onkyo TX-NR809, I found an open box Panasonic DMP-BDT310 for $88 a my local Best Buy. There are refurbs available:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004LNOSQO/ref=dp_olp_refurbished?ie=UTF8&condition=refurbished

The splitter is probably the most cost efficient way to go. Good luck!
The splitter definitely looks like the way to go. I just bought a new blu-ray 2 months ago.

Thanks Myoda!

I bought the 70LE8470U at my Costco for $2199 over the weekend. Think they still had 3-4 other units left. With tax and $100 SquareTrade extention to 5 year warranty the price came to just over $2500.

I'm fairly happy so far... The new TV setup has my obsessive compulsive nitpicking side coming on strong and I'm trying to keep it in check. While its a great improvement in a whole lots of ways from my old Mitsu DLP there are a couple things that bug me a bit.

The side angle viewing quality seems to degrade the picture quality pretty quickly. Not noticeable when watching TV but I'm using this TV as a monitor for a PC as well and I notice the degradation when viewing a forum with a light background and I'm sitting off center. That said it's a huge step up from my old DLP and I'm loving that I can read small text and PC gaming is so much cleaner and brighter than with my old DLP.

I'm connecting the PC via HDMI and originally tried using PC mode. I right off noticed input lag with my mouse compared to my previous TV. I've since switched to Game mode and configured the picture so that I like it pretty well. Not sure if the input lag is less or if I've just adjusted to it because it doesn't seem to be bothering me much now. Possibly could have been some wireless interference with my wireless gaming mouse?

Does anyone know if switching to a DVI VGA input would result in less lag?

Tried using some picture settings from this thread but they didn't seem to work too well. I've been able to get best results once I updated the firmware and only changed settings other than the precision color and temp settings(leaving those all stock 0). Noticed most of the calibration numbers are from mid 2012. Did firmware updates in the meanwhile invalidate those calibration numbers or maybe the 8470U unit calibrates differently than the 847U (like the 845U does from what I've read)?

I also originally had two sources connected via a cheap HDMI switcher and it didn't seem to work. I took the HDMI switcher out to get things running and need to revisit whether it'll work with this TV or not.

It's really not that bad. It could also have been from changing the settings around???

Sweet, great price, but as a "medium" I wonder if they will actually be a "small" at that price. The large doubles the price!

Still, if they work, please post. I'm looking for a pair now!

Also, any sites do a review of the glasses? I just can't find much out there.

I'm hoping those glasses do run small since they'll be used by my wife and children. I will definitely give my impressions when I get them.

My replacement saga recurs. My second 60-847 started "flashing" black (losing picture to a black screen) 2 weeks ago. It was sporadic & turning the set off & on "fixed" it. Today it rebooted on it's own for no reason & 20 minutes later shut off on it's own.

I called Sharp explained what it was doing was transferred to level 2 who was immediately terse, asked which set I had (I agree I have had alot, this is the freaking third) I repeated the serial number she went away and came back asking for my proof of purchase. I angrily asked if she wanted me to fax the carrier waybill from them.

She said no, she will escalate it for a decision. I asked for a manager and was on hold for ten minutes. I hung up, called the corpoprate office and am now waiting for a call from the manager of customer service.

I'm really pissed.

As you should be. Dang, I hope I don't have any problems with mine, b/c I don't want to go through half the ass pain you have.

For the guy looking at the Costco to find it cheap, check out East Coast TVs, unless you don't want to buy form online (which I really understand). But at their price, you could buy 4 glasses and an extended warranty through Sharp and still come out ahead I think.

Of course, I still don't have my TV, so who knows! I'll surly post when it arrives and I'll let you guys know condition of delivery and TV picture...

The Mediums run small. I had to return them and get the Large ones (which still feel a tad snug).
