We'll see what Chad thinks!

I am wondering how close your settings will be, to the settings Chad punches in the end........

I'm still not satisfied with my results, but I haven't had time to work with it due to family issues.

I didn't realize greyscale adjustments interacted with CMS adjustments until late last week. A helpful member and pro calibrator tipped me off. I suspect that may explain some purple spotting I had written off to clipping in the source material. I wanted to go in and run it thru both series again to see if it would help that. I also wanted to set up the other 4 gamma slots and do a game calibration. Just haven't been able to find the time.

Family issue is resolved now, so I should be able to help in here again. :-)

Can you elaborate about the differences between the two processors used by the 745 and 847?

I was told by an engineer from Sharp that the 847 is a step up from the 745. Only by one increase. He wouldnt tell me what increase that is. He also said that is was 1-3 milliseconds faster processor.

He's talking a language I'm totally unfamiliar with, but, in my vastly unenlightened mind it seems to me that if they went to the trouble to build a different processor, even if it's only one step up, they must have built that one step up processor for a reason. That's assuming he wasn't blowing smoke in the first place. It would be nice to know though. It doesn't make sense to me that Sharp would build the 847 with upgrades that the professional calibrators suggest turning off because they offer no benefit. Maybe 1-3 milliseconds is a really big difference in the world of processors. I wonder what they have that would be two or three steps up. Hmmm.

The 745 is a RGB panel. The extra two million sub-pixels in the RGB+Y panel takes more horsepower to control.

Thanks CG. FW, IN. born and raised here. I'm sure that's the reason for the 1-3-mil faster processor. Make's sense now. I have to admit from a selfish standpoint that I kind of hope your setting numbers are a lot like Chads. Anxious to find out. He has a great rep. I wish he was in AZ.

Just purchased the 60" 8470U from Costco and should have it in next week. Anyone have good settings for watching lots of sports and prime time TV?

Count me in for one when he comes to AZ

Let's invite him out in August. NOT!

I had a 5-month old LC60LE633U that got the dreaded vertical red line. Sharp agreed to exchange for a brand new LE60LE847U, quite the step up I must admit, a pleasant surprise that made the headache somewhat worthwhile.

The TV is getting delivered in about a week, looking forward to it!

Chad just called. He will be here in a few minutes. All my windows are covered and the settings on the TV have been reset in preparation.

I got my 847u yesterday afternoon. Wow, it's thin. About 1". My Samsung A650 from 2008 is about 3-4" thick. For a thin TV, it's still heavy. My wife struggled lifting her end up but we got it done. If I remember from the manual, it's about 88lbs.

I went through the quick setup and chose the home (vs store) mode which seems to be the energy saving. Watching a couple of episodes of The Sopranos last night, the picture seems grayer, dimmer than the old Samsung. Probably because of the energy saving settings. I haven't done any tweaking whatsoever.

I'll be exploring it more over the weekend plus researching these forums for info on calibration discs.

I bought my TV from Beach Camera via Amazon. It took a week to arrive. In contrast to the white glove service I received last time when I bought the Samsung from Amazon (the delivery guys brought the TV in, unboxed it, set it up, etc), I had to help the delivery person get the TV into the house and then open the box. Inspected the box, TV, and plugged it in. No signs of damage.

On the form, it showed that the TV was insured for ~$2650. I guess that is the approximate cost for Beach Camera? The TV was shipped from Edison, NJ.

This is one of the reasons I got a Sharp extended warranty that Sharp
Does take care of it's customers , I have seen that they will do this even years after , well under the extended warranty period of coarse

I've had problems in the past with 3rd party warranty coverage years later, where they kept sending out a tech over & over till they then decided the display needed replacing BUT they then used those service calls as part of my settlement ,they then adjusted the time I had the display(like a tire use policy)they called that a "current market value" , then cashed me out at a Fraction of what the policy was in place for .

Chad is here and has started the pre-cal evaluation. He set up a spectroradiometer on a tripod and connected to a laptop. He is set up to feed the display signals from both a pattern generator and blu-ray. He is saving voice notation onto a smartphone.

Cool blow by blow .....
can you video him doing his Majik ??

J/K'ing ....

Chad report no visible DSE with factory movie setting. Shows promise, good contrast, needs a lot of refinement.
His meter is carefully positioned perpendicular to and centered on screen.

Reporting a good sense of depth, but needs more light output. That was my thought at the factory setting as well.
Auto mode marginally better than movie mode. Standard mode looks "awful". :-) Game mode seems to be getting a lot of good impressions so far. User mode is "just awful". LOL. Remember, these are pre-cal impression s at the factory defaults.

He's viewing some high quality blu-ray footage from kind of demo/evaluation disc. Good looking stuff. I can see why he uses it.

All modes except game exhibit SOE...

@CG

Can you ask chad a question for me?

How far south in Ohio will Chad travel? I'm in between Cincy and Dayton in West Chester.

Thanks!
When he reaches a resting point I'll try to remember to ask. He has a website: http://hdtvbychadb.com/

I asked... He travels all over. Mostly east of the Mississippi, but has done both coasts. DC, VA, Chicago, and the Twin Cities are frequent stops. Florida and New York sound pretty common.

I have had my 70LE847U now for a couple of weeks. When I first got it I looked for clouding (white glove service), NONE. Then after watching the TV for about 8+ hours clouding started to set in. I was not worried about it to much because it didn't effect anything but then the Clouding got so bad on the left side corner it was noticeable in all pictures not just black background. Right now to filter it out I have the blacklight set to -16 but still a little bit.

I have already sent in pictures to Sharp and waiting for a call back from them.

I also have notice some motion blur, or what looks to be chatter. I think it is because I have Film mode turn on +10. Does anybody know what causes motion blur and is it a setting that I have turned up to much?

All and All the picture is fantastic, but I have the annoying left side corner clouding issue. I hope Sharp helps me.

Why is it awful? I believe that is the default mode out of the box and it's what I was watching with last night. I found it to be too dark, grey/brown looking.
Standard mode was extremely over saturated and had very poor shadow detail.
I just purchased the 70le847 from Costco and couldn't be happier (Comes with 2 pairs of 3D glasses). The PQ and 3D is awesome! I haven't noticed any issues with clouding or problems with the PQ. I did need to calibrate it a bit in order to get it to my liking. I love the matte screen finish since my living room as a lot of ambient light. I was a bit hesitant to pull the trigger but after checking out all the competition, it was a no-brainer. 70 inches for 3k! By the way once you get this bad boy put in Avatar (Blu-Ray) and be prepared to be blown away.

Unfortunately, I'm not a videophile. What does it mean when it's over saturated?
There are ISF modes available thru a special menu. The calibration software is talking to the TV directly using the protocols for a 2011 Elite.

He said uniformity is good with subtle reddish/pinkish spot above center. I couldn't see it...

Too much color. Subtle shades are lost. Tomato red looks like stop sign red. Caucasian faces look sunburned instead of flushed. Baby blue sky looks royal blue. Etc.
Slight clouding visible in near black fields

(Personal note: I have witness the clouds move after wiping the screen firmly, but carefully. My hand pressure is too uneven to eliminate it, but I can reduce it and move it around. I agree with the gentleman earlier that said a paint roller massage helps. I don't have a paint roller, but I am going to buy one. I honestly believe I can effectively eliminate the clouding.
Would this be clouding left hand corner or flashlight?
