Have you tried any of the VUDU 3D movies? Support for 3D VUDU streaming should be enabled in the 7 and 8 series. Can you verify?

I looked at the VT50s yesterday. I was impressed with how much less glare there is than just about every other plasma I've seen - still more glare than my Sharp though of course. Picture is beautiful. If you like a bright picture, it's all about LEDs. However, if you like a deeper, more soothing picture, the VT50 was the best I saw. I was in Magnolia Center with all of them lined up side by side. The VT50 blew away Samsung IMO, and was significantly better than its other models. Burn in, etc is my hangup as well as whether or not there is a buzzing noise. I may have to chance it though, because I can't watch my Sharp for more than a 1/2 hour at a time without feeling nausea.

Sorry to hear about your tv that didnt work. Most 60's have clouding what I heard, read and saw.
Glad that your audio optical works out for you. See less cables are better for a cleaner look.

I calibrated the game mode to get a brighter (more light output picture. In movie mode, I could not get more than 20ftL of light output. In game mode, I got 33ftL. Movie mode was accurate in gamut except for blue. Grayscale was linear and pretty perfect using color in low and the one point grayscale (see my updated post above).

for game mode, I probably need to use the 10 point grayscale. using the 1 point, my delta E 1967 is all less than 3, but blue is too high at the lower %stimulus. I'll post my settings for game mode tomorrow.

Here's my game mode settings:
Contrast 25
Brightness 1
Backlight 0
Hue: r:0, y:11, g:-15, c: 6, b: -28, m:2
Sat: r:0, y:11, g:13, c:0, b:0, m:-5
Value: r:-2, y:8, g:14, c::30, b:22, m:4
Temp low
Low r:4,g:-7, b:-30
Hi:r:0, g:-5, -22

I need to calibrate my 847U as well, can you post the link for that settings from GC here?

So much for the theory that Costco panels don't have clouding unless I am just really unlucky. I returned my 70" today (no small task) as it had some clouding issues. T

he new panel I got is much worse. No, the tv wasn't transported laying flat.

Yes, I was not impressed with led/lcd at least on this tv from Sharp. I have had 2 DLP- awesome tvs overall. 1 sharp Aquos 42 lcd- OK . 1 LG 42" plasma- pretty nice. This was my first led and I still would consider oled in the future. I originally was going to Sam's to buy the 55 Vizio with the local dimming that got alot of great reviews but they were out of it and not getting anymore. I will be very curious to see the new Vizio 21:9 led when it comes out. I'm sure Sharp's Elite led w/ all the dimming zones is nice- but EXPENSIVE!

NateDogg- You can't go wrong with a plasma. Best picture hands down. Burn in is a thing of the past if you break them in right and use the tools the tvs have. There's an awesome LG w/o 3d or apps for 1100 at BB. It may not be a Panasonic but it's 1/3 the price of a VT model. This tv is stunning compared to the Sharp. No Noise that I can hear. The only con is definitely glare, but if you can eliminate direct light glare (like lamps) you will be fine.
In the thread on the plasma section here at AVS the 2012 Panny owners are reporting an alarming amount of burn in issues(IR maybe but some say it's not going away). Several are returning their displays.

Just received deivery for Sharp 847 from Sears. Carefully installed stand and when tv powered on, there was color bleeding (think tie-dye) from top of display. The largest drip was about 2" wide, 5" long, started with white and ended with yellow. I haven't done any setup but I think this is an issue. Has anyone seen this phenomenom before and what did you do to correct?
Thanks in advance for any/all replies.
Inadvertently posted this in LCD Flat Panel Displays thread

that a display panel failure , you should have checked that before the delivery guys left , most likely it was dropped
post #974 of 2439
Thanks! I've contacted Sears and the replacement tv will be here on Friday. We'll see if that one's better

You obviously have not read the Master Burn In and Image Retention sticky thread in the plasma threads. There are apparently lots of IR issues in the 2012 models. Personally, I would absolutely hate any image that remained on my screen when it shouldn't be there.

when they deliver the replacement ,just take the top part of the box off,as then the display will sit in the lower part of the bottom box @ that point it's very easy to plug the set in to the wall . the start-up image is good enuff to see if the panel is damaged in any way . Do this while the delivery guys are still there ,any faults then refuse the delivery .
Never sign the the shipping bill until after you inspect the display . Don't let the driver BS you into signing before inspection , if he will not allow a inspection then refuse delivery & ask to speak to his supervisor .

I ordered 2 pairs of these from Amazon.com yesterday. Hopefully they'll do the trick since nobody responded! smile.gif

Those will work. The 8470 comes with this model:
an-3dg20-el

http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-AN3DG20EL-3D-Glasses-Edition/dp/B007RK9TOO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

The elite tvs have this model included as well. Both work fine on my 8470.

The local Sharp rep said the only OEM they suggest is Dimensional Optics:

http://www.dimensionaloptics.com/Product.aspx?l=00010001000100060000&p=A1S01257

I called and talked to a sales rep at Dimensional Optics and he said their glasses were similar to the Sharp models except they do not have the 2d/3d switch on them. I asked if there would be an improvement in reducing crosstalk vs the factory Sharp models and he said he didn't know but expected theirs to perform as well as the factory glasses. He said the Sharp glasses were among the best of the original glasses that come with 3d tvs.

You could try these 3d universal glasses from Keydex:

http://www.amazon.com/KEYDEX-Rechargeable-Infrared-Universal-Panasonic/dp/B007FKHT9I/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&qid=1340046821&sr=8-32&keywords=an-3dg20-el

Or these from Blick:

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Compatible-Glasses-AN-3DG20-EL-Blick/dp/B0082ALFVS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1340046755&sr=8-3&keywords=sharp+el+glasses

I talked to Blick as well and same deal with no 2d/3d switch on the glasses. They have a wider angle lense to improve viewing according to the sales rep.

Otherwise I found these from Ultimate3DHeaven:

http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Clear-Glasses-Sharp-Televisions-Rechargeable/dp/B0086XE5WW/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1340046812&sr=8-10&keywords=an-3dg20-el

I have no idea if any of these offbrand glasses will work on these tvs. I'd probably go with Dimensional Optics first since the Sharp rep told me they work.

I have not found any kids glasses that will work yet. Further back in this thread someone posted links to some other kids 3d glasses. None of them said they would work with Sharp. I have tested my Sharp glasses on Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic tvs and they do not work, so I'm hesitant to believe a non-universal kids glasses for another manufacturer's tv would work on the Sharp. Best Buy has a Samsung kids glasses for $150/pair. I'm not willing to take that gamble. Has anyone actually found one that works?

I did find one active 3d kids glasses that was claimed to be universal with no real brand on them. They were out of China and minimum order was 150 pairs. -risky-

I bought 1 pair of these through Amazon. The look identical to the ones that came with the tv at Costco. Work great and comfortable enough. I only have 3 chairs in my ManCave. biggrin.gif

Hi Guys,
I've updated my movie mode settings. I'll call this one my final. It's way brighter and has lot of pop.

OPC off
backlight 0
contrast 33
brightness 0
color 0 note: we shouldn't use tint and color if using CMS
tint 0
sharpness 2
cms hue: r=18, , y=-9, g=-13, c=11, b=-19, m=12
cms sat: r=-5,y=-6,g=-8, c=0, b=-7, m=-13
cms value: r=10, y=3, g=-3, c=-8, b=-3, m=+4
color gamut range=standard
color temp=low.
1point (i got lazy and didn't do the 10pt)
lo: r=30, g=9, b=-1
hi: r=15, g=4, b=-14
motion enhancment aquomotion 240
quad pixelo plus 2=off
active contrast=off
gamma adjust=0
film mode=off
digital noise reduction = low

A couple of notes. Colors generally are good now, and there's now plenty of light output at nearly 30ftL. The key was to dial up contrast and then recalibrate. I do not recommend Game or user mode. The gamma is all over the place. Movie has a very flat gamma at 2.2.
Here's a link to some plots of my results:

You can see that they're pretty good.

Best,
jeff

So folks, if you had to do it over again, would you buy this display? I'm in the market for a 60" at around a $2,000 price point. I also like to buy from Costco.

After reading every post here I am just not sure. I am sure that I am getting tired of shopping !!

Hey guys,
I'm new to the sharp forum. I currently have a LG 55LM8600 and I'm going to return to the light bleed. I understand EDGE LED will mostly have light bleed but mine is too bad. Even colors looked washed out on corners. I know some sharp have clouding issues but I don't think it affects the picture quality as much as the light bleed. I had a 5 yr old Sharp TV that I gave to my dad. I never had a problem with it. Since I will be returning the Lg I have focused on getting 60 847 from sharp. What are the main complains on this set. I like LG and if it didn't have much light bleed I would keep it. I also like the passive 3D but it does no good when your set has extreme light bleed.
For me the blacks look fine. If I have no input (as when I turn off the xbox but don't switch inputs) I can see a little clouding, however, when watching dark movies (pitch black was on yesterday) and credits I don't see anything. I do think the picture is a little 'soft' but then I have the 70 inch and have been mostly viewing TV and have this TV sitting right next to a 40 inch samsung with a very sharp image. I also haven't quite got the color\brightness where I want it. Sometimes I think it looks perfect, in other lighting conditions I start messing with it again. video games look great on it so thats good. Golf and hockey have a weird effect with the fast small moving objects where they double up (unless you turn off all motion enhancement then it works fine....which is kind of opposite of what you would think).

All in all I think its a good TV but not sure I would call it OMG AWESOME. I didnt quite get the "this was the best decision I have made" feeling I got when I bought my Sony SXRD (you know before it started to have issues). Once I have it calibrated I will know better if I love it or if its just something I will hold onto until something better comes along.

I would recommend the TV if your not super picky. Like my Uncle said when I was TV shopping, "any of these will be just fine as soon as you get them home and just start enjoying them". Of course if you are super picky you may want to look a different direction or wait for the Elites to get cheap.

I just got my LC-60LE847U delivered today. For some reason, I can't get the "soap opera effect" with Aquomotion set to even the highest which is 240 Hz. I can only get a bit of "soap opera effect" if I turn on 3D. Is that how 240 Hz looks like on a Sharp as I really like the "soap opera effect".

What are you watching. Big Bang Theory on TBS... or anything on TBS should show a maximum amount of SOE.
In other words, if you don't see it there you shouldn't see it anywhere.

I am just watching some blu-ray movies, haven't tried HD channels yet. I thought blu-ray movies show the most "soap opera effect" though.....

This is my current LG 55LM8600. I'm returning this set do to the extreme flashlight and light bleed. I only see this much when changing inputs. When watching dark movies colors are washed out. Any Sharp sets look like this?

ISF day and night modes added to sharp 70C8470U using ControlCal

Hi Guys,
I got a tool last night that allows meto connect to my display via the internet and create and calibrate two more viewing modes - ISF Day and Night. I've just played with the the software a little bit (got it installed and have connected to the display), and created the ISF Day and Night modes. These are accessible via the remote just like the other viewing modes (like Movie, Standard, Game, etc.).

By eye, they look pretty close to movie. The software lets you control all of the menus items you usually have to access view remote key presses by moving sliders. I'll post tomorrow night my calibration results. I'm pretty excited but a bit too tired to get this done right tonight.

Here's the link to ControlCal.com: http://www.controlcal.com/

Best,
jeff
