Awesome. Is that the cube shaped one that isn't 3D? Could you give any first impressions when it arrives...

Looking forward to hearing about the BD-E6500 3D blu ray player as well

Sorry, but I refused the UPS package and will try the Panasonic 320, 500 and a soon to be released HDI Dune Pro.

I would like to know about these devices and if they come with the Ultraviolet Disc to Digital built in or if it will require a firmware update. My guess is the latter because the Flixster App on the Panasonic players did not come with the shipping units.

Someone from the Amazon reviews who bought the BD-E5900 said the Disc to Digital app was there but he had not tried it yet.
My BD-E6500 arrived today and I can now officially confirm that there is no 2D to 3D conversion, this is also stated somewhere within the first few pages of the manual and a Samsung rep told me NONE of the 2012 BD Players will have it (I'm a 3D junkie so I'm pretty livid about this)

A few quick things:

You are getting 1 gb of memory on board
Product updates upon setup
Smart Hub updates upon setup
Several/almost all Apps update upon selection of an app (when you first use it)

Remote is smaller, looks cheap
Feels like a step down from last year's models, for being the highest model released this year
The BD player's menu is a little faster/smoother to navigate than last year
The menu has been overhauled and is now identical to last year's Samsung HDTV's menus

I wasn't impressed by the Web Browser
The asthetics are nice: Black top with silver around the sides and bottom
Has two HDMI INPUTS, and one OUT
The Family Story and some other Primary features seem lost in translation and I doubt they will get much use
Don't much care for disc to digital so I probably won't even mess with it

My overall impression is that they should have kept ALL the features from last year and not cut ANY, AND made these improvements on top of them

Unless you're getting this for better blu ray disc compatibility, then don't. Even then, get a cheaper model that is 3D compatible

Just put up my Amazon review. Tried to do a thorough job. Pretty disappointed in the Bd player to be honest
post #9 of 130
Over at the Amazon reviews CB tried the Disc to Digital feature on the BD-E5900 and this is what he came up with:

"I tried it out just now - it says: Disc to Digital stores your DVDs collection in digital library. Service will be available soon through the 'Flixster Collections' application.

I installed Samsung's latest updates - new since last week - and searched the appstore for flixster. No results were found and I still get the same message.

I googled this and just found press releases from January saying this feature was coming this year. Overall I'm extremely disappointed with Samsung actually having features work and ready.

The flixster app shows up, but it is also coming soon."

Figures.
Will this player see this frequency? My bd-c5500 does.
Sorry I couldn't find this info online. I read the reviews on amazon, but looking on samsung's site and googling the e6500. I couldn't find what features were dropped. I am having a terrible time with my d6500, I'm wondering what features were removed from the "d" to the "e" version.

For playback formats all I found listed was: MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX HD, WMV

The d6500 could do: AVI, MKV, WMV, MP4, MPG

I assume avi/divx can be listed as one in the same. Was mkv format dropped?

I get the harddrive is (re)added this year, which I would like, I don't care about the duel hdmi and I use a harmony remote. Could any owners tell me or point me to the differences between this model and the other model.

again, sorry if I missed this somewhere.
I didn't see an owners thread for the other models, so I'll ask here. Does anyone have the E5900? Just checking to see if it has a regular disc loading drive, or if it's a slot loader.

Is it reliable on BD playback? I haven't owned a Samsung since the very first model, and it seems like their players, year after year, constantly rate around 3.5/5. For a company that makes so many great TVs, they seem to always rate lower on BD players, even in year 6.

Contemplating spending some of my AirMiles on one of these (it's between this and the Sony BDP-S590), but one thing I haven't been able to determine definitively is whether it does things like Netflix, YouTube, etc. Everything I see goes on and on about "oooo, Samsung Apps, Smart Hub, woot woot" but so far I haven't found anything that tells me what all Apps there are. Most of the video services don't matter to me because I can't get them in Canada, but Netflix is one that I can.

Comparing the two, they seem rate pretty closely (bah, can't post URLs, but if you google "compare samsung bd-e6500 sony bdps590" it's the 10rate.com link).

Sort of leaning toward the Sony at the moment as it specifically lists the things I'm interested in, and I don't really care about the "disc-to-digital" thing (sounds neat, but reading the details, not that relevant... and I'll probably find it's not in Canada either).

Any thoughts, anyone? Can anyone give more details on these nebulous "Samsung Apps"?
I'm anticipating the new player with the disk-to-digital feature. I have a sony dvd changer that crapped out and need a way to manage 400 odd movie titles my kids watch. currently they movethem to other players and so they get scratched up.

I have noticed that the local reatil outlets do not have this new model yet. I'm betting that it will not be released to best buy etc until the disk-to-digital feature is ready to go. Then it can be marketed. Otherwise many boxes will be returned.
according to CNET reviews and interview with a Samsung salesman, they state that the new E6500 has the resolved issues with the freezing up,slow starting of apps, and constantly buffering when watching streaming movies(netflix, vudu etc),is this true????Do the owners of the E6500 experience any of the issues on their new players that were originally found on the D series??
I do not own one of these units, but I do work for a retail outlet that sells them. I had one customer return 2 of these units yesterday because they both constantly froze after about 20 minutes

Well,THATS not good! Why manufacture a 2012 model that has the same issues as the 2011?
I sure would love to have gotten ahold of one of the units CNET reviewed, as I've had two in row that freeze up about every 20-minutes of playback from multiple discs. Samsung even remoted into the current unit and was about useless...all they did was a factory reset and verified I had downloaded the most recent firmware update...both of which I'd already done a couple times without success...sounds like they need to get this issue resolved...had a few BDD6500 and a BDD5500 and NEVER had experienced this problem. Their tech support had no idea why this issue was occurring, of course...anyone experiencing this and have a solution since Samsung is of no help?

SAMSUNG BD-E6500 Keyboard mouse models...
What keyboard mouse models and brands will work on this unit???
I Have one on the way... just working on all the accy's so it will all be here...

Looking forward to the net on this unit...
can you see the weather.com site or noaa sites for live radar???

New to blue ray ad to any of the late dvd players...
Net flix looks like a cool idea!! 24.00 and 3 discs as well as the streaming...

block buster looks pricy... rent as you go??? heck I can buy the discs for what they want for rentals....

Pandora looks like fun!! I played it on the pc....

I am in to old flicks and old tv shows.... what else is there out there???

Lol I have one blue ray disc here
local Iowa Walmart.com has these units in stock as of 04/16/2012....
They had 6 of them!!

So what tv's and models work best for this unit???
maybe like a 30-32 inch fo bed room and maybe a 40-48 in small living room...
3d is not an issue for me..... but good picture is...
heck I like my analog!!
nice soft picture... just not wide screen....

Oh yea I found my unit on e-bay.... NIB $126.10 shipped...
that left me enough to buy a scaler and the cat 5e cables

So out with the welder to make swing arm mounts for the bigger tv's...
I need to post pix on the net what I made for the pc... that would be good for most smaller than 30 inch tv's!! simple and cheap to make if you are good with a welder!!

Just got the new Samsung BD-E6500 and all I can say is WOO!HOOOO!Compared to last years model(D6500)it seems Samsung did a complete internal overhaul of this unit. Its as quick as my Sony S590,no freezing up,no buffering issues,no connection issues, and the options to tweek the PQ has enhanced, and the disc to digital feature is awesome! I thought my Sony was perfect till I tried the E6500,and along with 2 additional HDMI inputs with pass through technology,I can honestly say that this one is a keeper,if anyone was on the fence of getting one!

Does the new Wireless Keyboard VG-KBD1000 work with the
Samsung BD-E6500 (2012) blu-ray player? or is it a TV only keyboard ?

Here is an example on *bay...

the keyboard is on the screen and not seperate as of today...

the model number of the good keyboard is VG-KBD1000
they are on e-bay for 100.00 from over seas with korea and english lettering..
but it has the full remote built in!!
best way to go for sure!!
and yet it works good!! and real must have!!
I did use a logitech 360 from walmart (40.00) and it worked for the setup...
but it does not have all the buttons the 1000 does....
samsung states you van use a usp hub on these... that would be nice for sure!! maybe a 2 tb hard drive and a flash drive... more memory for apps that way!!
and space for music too!!

We are a Samsung dealer in the Houston TX area. I was actually coming here to see if anyone had the same issues we are currently having with these Blurays aswell.
After about 2 or 3 mins of disc play the unit will lock up and requires a power off and on again to get control of the unit again.
Also the netflix app seems to cause lock ups too.
Is there anyone aware of this problem or is a firmware update coming ?

This is the 4rth unit of this model number ive installed with the same problem. Id be happy to try some steps and such if there is anyone on here that thinks they would like to give a trouble shoot out too.

I have purchased two 3D movies. Neither work in my player. Purchased the BD-E6500 last month. I have upgraded the firmware to 1008 through network. Player will not recognize files on CD or USB stick. I'm trying to upgrade to 1010.0 with no luck. 1010.0 is not on the direct to player server. Anyone else having problems playing 3D? Samsung CS states I'm not copying the files right. As I build computers and make all the parts play nice with each other I'm fairly certain a girl reading off a card is not smarter about this crap than me..........

I had no problems updating to the 1010 via online through the player, although what I have been experiencing is when streaming through netflix,I sometimes experience lipsync being off with some movies thats quite annoying!

Hi, Mr. Jroptop
I have BD-E6500 too. Until know, i don't have problem like you.
I just found many update on smarthub application. could you share to me what movie title that you have been play and get the problem. because i want to update to version 1010.0...now my player still 1008.5. do you think 1010.0 is better than 1008.5?
I can confirm that the Samsung BD-E6500 recognizes the vobsub subtitles embedded in mkv files.

It does not play pgs subtitles embedded in mkv files ripped from blu-rays.
