Official LG 47LM6700/55LM6700 "Passive 3D" Owners Thread - 2012

Haven't seen them yet, but hard to believe that these new models are worth the current launch premium $$$ versus the closeouts (if you can find them) on the earlier models. Frys and Sears (where I went) have been selling their 55LW5300 floor models for around $1K less than these "new" units.

I just came from a media event where all LG 2012 TVs were on display. Absolutely gorgeous designs. The ultra-thin cinema screen bezel alone is worth the price of admission. They also demoed dual play, new smart TV features and iPad connectivity. I tested out dual play and the image was flawless. There was also a "stripped" 9600 showing off the full-array backlighting.

In a bright, showroom environment the 6700 was near-indistinguishable from the flagship 9600. If the 47LM6700 were on sale in Canada already, I would be very tempted.

I saw the LM6700 on Amazon and also the LM7600. Does anyone know the differences and is the extra 200$ worth it?

Anyone know if the black plastic pieces shown in the attachment are removable? If not, how could they advertise a 1.3" depth, and how am I going to flush mount it with the 5mm thick Peerless SUF651 I already bought?

I went to a local TV shop 2 weeks ago. This is a place that has been in business for 40 years and they are an authorized Panasonic, LG, and Samsung retailer.

The owner worked up numbers for me on some of the 2011 models and he gave me numbers on the LM6700 and LM7600. I have purchased the 47LM7600 for $1550 and added in the Bd 670 3d blu ray, 10 pairs of glasses, high speed hdmi cables, with delivery and setup by a certified tech all for $1750.

It pays to haggle and find a local authorized dealer. It felt great to keep the money local and not drop it with a big box store.

Is this high high reflective glass in front of the panel or some kind ultra clear panel like Samsung ?

I confirmed they are the speakers... would love to know if some 6700 recipient out there is willing to unscrew it and see if it's detachable, maybe take a pic with it taken off... the woman at J&R wouldn't let me take a screwdriver to the floor model

does anyone know if the 55LM6700 is a matte or glossy screen?

Besides wondering if the 55LM6700 is a matte screen, does anyone know the difference between the 55LM6700 (120hz) and the 55LW5600 (120hz) or the 5LW6500 (240hz). Obviously, the refresh rate is different between the TV's as well as the thickness of the TV's.

I put up a 55Lm7600 and a 47LM6700 for display today. Some of the nicest-designed sets I've ever seen. Picture was very good but I didn't do much tweaking. The LM7600 is definitely not as glossy as a Samsung d7000 but it is nowhere near matte.

Picked up a 47LM6700 yesterday after returning a SONY 55NX720 because of the crappy 3D. The guy in BB said they literally came in yesterday and that I had good timing. I got the 47" LM6700, I had a 47LW5600 before and this set is almost the same except the tiny bezel. One grip so far, I cant seem to find the TruMotion options on this set are they disabled?

This set also suffers from the vertical bands the LW5600 had but the excellent 3D outweights this factor.

Ive tried Samsung (46UND7000) and Sony(55NX720 ) LED-LCD 3D offerings and they were garbage compared to this, LG's passive 3D is very comfortable and I think kids will like it. Glad they redesigned it, last years model was so ugly. I still want a Panasonic Plasma 3DTV, they were out of stock. Hopefully the new panny models will be out soon.

That's a shame as one of the nicest features I found on my 47LW5600 is the matte screen. I can watch in a half bright room and still have a nice picture opposed to my previous CRT that had a poor picture in bright light even though it was watchable. The previous Plasma that I "Tried" and returned was so bad that even with standard lamp light, the flat panel was like a mirror and made the picture unwatchable. With a flat panel TV, don't think I'd ever want a none matte screen. The Samsung LED 6000, 7000, and 8000 series are just as bad as my Plasma was. Looking at those Samsung in a store was terrible with the reflections. To bad LG went cheap with a glossy screen.

The LM6700 looks to be the very very similar to the LW5600 in almost all ways except new panel/frame, foot, and graphic interface.K Performance specs seem to be the exact same.

For some reason the LM6700 only comes with the magic motion remote and the 7600 comes with the big remote too. So the menus were redesigned to be more biased toward the magic motion remote. Which is a bit annoying at times.

Saw the 7600 at Best Buy today and what a disappointment the panel was. It was very very reflective resembling the Samsung LED LCD TVs and Plasma TVs.

It was very mirror like with the reflections having a distortion in them, so not mirror perfect but not diffused either. The old LG LW5600 was right next to it and while you could still see the lights in the screen, they were diffused. Reflections other than lights, that the 7600 picked up, the LW5600 did not at all.

While usually I get buyers remorse when new models come out, I was not impressed with the new TV. Now the direct replacement for my TV, the 6700, has 1 less component and 1 less composite video input while providing one more USB input that is essentially useless, at least for me. The extra composite and component inputs are useful for extra AV gear, game consoles, and even digital cameras.

The new panel is really kind of weird. The glass extendes to the sides as there really isn't a frame, but a spacer between where the picture actually ends and the where the glass actually ends. While it does look cool, not sure that I would choose it over a traditional frame.

If you can get the LW5600 and LW6500 at great close out prices, you'll get a killer deal. I think these offer the best bang for the buck, even at their full prices compared to the new models.

I just got the 55LM7600 yesterday. It doesn't come with the big remote. Only magic remote. Love this tv. Bit reflective, but incredible picture. Does have a bit of light that seeped through during 16:9 movies on the top black bar from under the bezel. That is my only real gripe.

@lkaufma1: I am not sure if you ever looked at any older models (LW5300/5600/6500), but if you did, do you see any significant improvement in 3D? Somewhere I read that the newer models lm62,67,76... have a far better 3d than the previous models.

I am debating between older 47LW5600 and the new 47LM6700 (too bad that 6200 doesn't support local dimming). But I am still not sure if LM6700 offers enough features for the premium price. From my research so far, among all the new feature it offers, I found the following which would really benefit me/ or I like:

1 Improved 3D with 20 level viewpoint and depth control
2 5mm bezel
3 New magic motion remote (I love that thingy)
4 Intel Widi
5 Dual Play (Full screen)
6 Resolution Upscaler

Honestly, it's really the first point that I am concerned about. I am assuming that having a 20 level viewpoint and depth control will give a significant control over 3D picture quality, but if in reality the 3d experience is the same as in the older models, I would rather go for 55" LW6500.

If anyone else has any 'real' experience with both the models, please reply. Thanks in advance.

@RacerDave1: Do you see any significant improvement in 3D compared to 5600? And are you having issues with the glossy screen?

I am not sure if it has something to do with my specific store lighting or just the new finish on the screen, but both my display LM6700 and LM7600 seem to darken quite a bit off-axis. I tried the 3D using the 2D-3D mode and a video from the built-in 3D app. They looked pretty good and the conversion looked better than I expected, definitely better than the conversion on the LW5600. I don't recall noticing the FPR "scan lines" as much during the short time I watched it but I was watching mostly content with a black background so it may be I just didn't see it. The FPR lines really bug me on the 5600.

Keep in mind that it's been a busy weekend so I havent had too much "one on one" time with either set.
