For those interested, the new firmware update didn't seem to help with the reboots.
Also, for the guys with reboot issues that can get into the service menu, TV repair guy came by last week to check my TV's service menu. Looks like the service menu keeps a record of the last 24 power downs for the TV and tells you what caused it to turn off. Interestingly, this also records the reboots, although the status/error message was cryptic enough that we didn't have a clue what was causing it. TV repair guy said LG reps was leaning towards a bad remote receiver

Sorry it didn't work for you. I am 16 days out since the power failure at my house and still no reboots. There must be a couple of different reasons for this problem. Please keep us updated as I don't have a whole lot of confidence in this thing staying reboot free.

Should I update if I've already got Trumotion options? Does it add/remove anything?

I hope you asked about getting into the service menu getting past the greyed out problem

I take it you have the 03.20.93 or 03.21.03 firmware versions. My rule is to update to the latest and greatest firmware unless there are some widespread known issues. While your current firmware might have enabled Trumotion feature (technically partial Trumotion since Deblur hasn't been enabled yet) it may have fixed other things like the reboot issue or some app bugs in 03.21.40. My advice is upgrade to 03.21.40 update because even if you have problems and you call the LG CSR, they are just going to point you to upgrade to the latest firmware to say it will solve your problems.

Man I dunno what the "soap opera" effects are but I can't watch anything with trumotion enabled. I'm probably in the minority but It looks like people are just gliding around on the screen and makes it really hard to watch. rolleyes.gif

My lack of confidence has been justified. After 16 days it started rebooting again.

thats exactly the "soap opera" effect. Makes everything look like it was recorded on a crappy camera from the early 90s. I have yet to see a single instance where motion interpolation looks good, so when my set arrives and I update to the newest fw it will be the first thing I disable. In short its like the picture vomit, the tv takes a normal set of frames and synthetically adds frames to try to smooth the picture
post #1148 of 2037
What's the point of trumotion if we don't have de-blur? It makes movies and games unwatchable during any type of moving sequence. This looks pretty terrible
post #1149 of 2037
I should have remembered the frustration I had dealing with LG when I had one of their top Blu-ray players. They were chronically late with updates - almost impossible to play the lastest BR releases - to the point that I ditched the player and got an OPPO (which has been a stellar performer - worth every penny!)

I see the same behavior with their panels. Shipping a unit that displays on the outside capabilities that have yet to be implemented is false advertizing.

Maybe I can't read but with the new firmware I think I'm reading the picture actually looks worse. Can you update the firmware to the newest version and simply turn truemotion off and be back to before the update at least on the picture quality? Want to know before I upgrade, don't want to upgrade if I don't need to as I'm pretty happy with the current picture (fast moving things like basketball, little pixelation problems or whatever it's called)

Your rule is the opposite of what I think is the general thought on firmware. If you aren't having any problems with your device, and the new firmware doesn't add any features that you need/want then do NOT update the firmware. Only problems can ensue. You can always update later, but usually there is no going back.
Well, looks like my plan worked and we got our update. It seems to have fixed wacky HDMI arc problems too. Trumotion is kind of hit or miss depending on content but at least it's an option. I notice lag in my Xbox which is to be expected, and game mode gets rid of it. Hopefully the de-blur settings show up soon as it would make soccer games look like they weren't filmed on a VHS camcorder lol.

Sorry guys I didn't ask them about this. I don't have a universal remote and I've never been in the service menu myself so I never really thought about this. Any specific menu items on there I can ask about when he comes back?

that sucks man. they're planning on replacing the panel next week. afaik this is the last compoent on the tv itself besides the speakers. hopefully if this doesn't work they'll get me a new TV
post #1156 of 2037
If he comes back, we can get into the service menu, but then unlike past models the choices are greyed out. We need whatever code it is that the Service Menu remote he has puts out to allow changes. (looks to me his remote has an "adjust" button that does it)

Thanks!!
It resets picture settings. Re-calibrate them with the wizard and all will be good again. I notice it's a teenie bit more responsive as well. Haven't noticed anything worse.

Back to square one for me, repair guy is ordering another main board and power supply saying the replacement was probably defective. I will let them do their thing as the more repair visits the better the case for a new TV.

I haven't seen any other people posting on this issue for awhile. Either they have returned their TV and the new one is fine or it's an uncommon issue and we are the unlucky ones.

Ok I get it but then that means I don't know the millions of us are screwed with the latest 03.21.40 update then. Honestly the guy asking the question should do what he feels comfortable with. If he doesn't want to do then he shouldn't but like I said if it caused big problems with this 03.21.40 update we will be pitching forks at LG right now.

All I am saying is if he runs into problems with the older firmware update then don't go crying to LG that its broken because the issue might be fixed in the latest firmware update.

Hi everyone! I recently purchased the 47lm6700. I do have the dreaded "light bleed" issue on the upper left corner of my screen.
It is slightly annoying. I'm still within the return / exchange window.
I have three choices.
1)I can attempt exchange the set at the local store and hope to get one that has little or no light bleed.
2) I can try to deal with LG support to see what they have to say.
3)Or I can just accept that this is as good as I get. tongue.gif
Any opinions? I've included a photo. Look to the upper left side. I guess this is more of a flashlight than a light bleed?

That's not acceptable. I would return it.

Just reporting back. I exchanged the set this afternoon. The Best Buy "techs" couldn't initially see the trouble as they were viewing standing up and looking at the set on the ground, leaning against a wall, in a very lighted area. "You probably have a bad cable at home" rolleyes.gif
I took a bunch of photos of the light bleeding before I packed the TV up. That made it easier to guide their eyes to the problem. Otherwise, it would have been a lot more difficult to convince them.
I'm happy to report the new exchanged set shows no light bleed or flash lighting . biggrin.gif Also, blacks appear a little darker with a lot less "clouding" using the same settings as the old set.
Overall picture clarity is better, too. I guess the old set had other issues in addition to light bleed.
I'm glad I did the exchange. biggrin.gif

he hasn't came back yet, but I was curious as well so I gave him a call.

The code he uses is 0413, but he said it only lets you change things if you are using an "LG Factory Remote". He said it's possible to get in using a universal remote but the options would be disabled.

I didn't ask for more details but I'm thinking the "adjust" button you mentioned is a good possibility. Menu is probably locked until that button is pressed, and I would guess that universal remotes probably doesn't have this code.
Thanks for asking him. Yes 0413 is the code to get in once the universal remote is programmed for the TV. . We were hoping to get the code for the adjust button on the Service Remote. That's the critical question. It's possible he does not know what that is, or he could be correct, the universal remotes can't make that code.
