My tv was scheduled to be delivered tomorrow 4/16. Pilot delivery called me Fri 13 and said they had it and asked if they could deliver it early.

Also, dual core might come in handy for future needs? It's hard to know since there's no real specific information available. I watched the video reviews and saw that the ST50 didn't appear to be slower than the GT50. So, for me, 60" ST50 won since I have a 52" that isn't much smaller than the 55" GT50.

I said it earlier but this is my 1st Plasma, used to DLP for last 8 years. I LOVE this TV so far, using D-nice non-prep settings and Cinema. I was watching a blu-ray today and noticed one thing. It seems that the darks/blacks all blend together, its like dark blue appears black. I was playing with Brightness and it seems to help a bit. Is there something else I should be doing or is it just my eyes needing to get used to a true picture?

I'm was using D-Nices settings but ended up adjusting them somewhat. Turned brightness up to 63 and color up about 5 notches as well. Other than that I really like his settings.

Have you tried Custom instead of Cinema?

Funny, I turned my color setting down to 40.

I bought my 60" ST50 yesterday from Amazon. I saw the 3D glasses offer this morning. So, even though I took advantage of the 24 month same as cash (didn't really need too, but since there was no other deal, I did), I inquired about the 2 pair of free 3D glasses (and I would of canceled the order since it was still allowing me too and give up the same as cash), but honestly it never came up. She said to go ahead and order a pair of the glasses, and she will take that as a discount off the price of the TV. No wonder Amazon is the #1 online retailer of TV's and Best Buy is going down the tubes! BB's customer service has been rotten for a number of years. God Bless Amazon!

Ok, I may be the stupidest person doing search - where do you find (or which one you use) D-Nice break in slides, instructions for "braking in" and calibration settings?
Sorry ... Thank you for the info.

Yes like I said, I have tried D-Nice Customer and Cinema. D-nice Custom is awesome colors and perfect contrast for me, but the darks all seem to blend together. I tried turning Brightness up to about 75, and it's better but still not what my eyes are used to.

Welcome to the forums! The D-nice settings are at high def junkies dot com. AVS won't allow a link to that site. You'll have to join(it's free) to access his 2012 settings, calibration thread.

That is quite the gain in picture I am sure jumping from the older rear projection.

Well, no luck with Amazon. They told me they wouldn't honor the promotion because I purchased my TV before it started.
Has anyone had luck getting Amazon to price match the 55" ST50 and if so, what competing retailer did you use? I asked if they would match the current price from Abe's of Maine and was told no which surprised me a little bit.

Were the blacks like that before you applied the new settings (blue and crushing)? I wouldn't think that blacks on this set would look like that. It seems that your tv might need further adjustments. Maybe you could reset the modes, then use the slides and then apply the appropriate settings to see if it improves.

Mine is supposed to be delivered on Thursday, I'll take a look and report back.

They will not match Abe's. When I bought mine Abe's was $50 cheaper than they are right now, and Amazon was well over $2000 (I won't post details). They refused. Had prices been what they are right now at the two, I'd have still bought from Amazon. The difference is tiny now.

Interesting. If they won't price match them, I wonder what retailers they will match.

Are you talking about the 2 pair of glasses promotion? If so I'd try emailing them again. They credited me $120 in about 2 seconds flat, and I purchased my set on 3/15.

AFAIK everyone is selling for close to the same price as Amazon right now. I LOVE Amazon's customer service, and would have gladly paid the price they are asking right now.

EDIT: I should mention I bought the 60", I don't know any of this info for other sizes.

Sorry ... Thank you for the info.

Just so you understand, D-Nice's slides are NOT used for "breaking in" the panel. They are explicitly designed to prep the panel prior to applying his custom calibration settings, and nothing more.

Hello all,
My first post, long time lurker. I have recently pulled the trigger on a brand new p65vt30 for a tad over 2200 from an authorized B&M store. The TV is en route, so a return is definitely possible.

However, having read all the good stuff here, I am having second thoughts. I need a 65 incher, and realize waiting for a p65st50 will require patience, which is OK. I plan on getting either set calibrator by a profressional calibrator - likely one of the esteemed folks from here.

My question, therefore, is simple. What differences should I expect from both sets, fully calibrated. If the sets calibrated are a wash in terms of PQ, I'd rather get the VT30. If the ST50 is better by a significant margin or improves on the VTs weaknesses, ie color, I will wait a little longer. Also, just to complte the picture, I don't care for 3D, nor will ever use it on this TV.

THnaks for you valued responses. I am all eyes

One of my very best friends has a VT30. I have an ST50. ESPECIALLY if you are going to have your set calibrated, save the money and get the 65ST50 over a 60VT30. The 50 series does improve on the weaknesses of the 30 series.

Yeah, I did e-mail them again to make sure they knew I was referring to their price guarantee, but this seems to be hit-and-miss depending on who you talk to I guess. Was a little annoying because I had to go back through their contact form again.

I've received great customer service from Amazon in the past so this won't even remotely affect future purchasing decisions, but it is a little disappointing if people are getting differing levels of service depending on who they talk to (though I guess such is the way it usually goes in that business).

Wow, that was quick! Thanks for sharing. I wonder what the calibrators feel about which TV has more potential - vt30 or st50. I am sure they have their preferences. Do any of the tweaking gods ever descend onto these forums?

I'm looking at the 55" and have seen prices from other retailers as much as $150-200 less than Amazon, but the problem is that Amazon doesn't seem to want to price match any of them. Not sure why they have a price match policy for TVs if they only apply it to a few select places(Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc), but I'll probably end up ordering from them anyway since they have the most hassle-free return policy if there's a problem.

They do, ST50 over VT30.

I just looked at my Amazon cart, looks like the glasses are no longer free. Don't think there's a BB deal.

The deal is still advertised on the 3D glasses product page. Says through April 21st.
