Call Netflix, don't tell them about the update, and see what they can do. Hopefully if they take it off your account and put it back on everything will work. I hate that Netflix took that ability away from us.

Netflix is working fine from my PS3. It has nothing to do with my account. Does that matter?

One thing about using the slides. You don't HAVE to use them like instructed, it is just mentioned in a serious way to stop all the questions about break-in. Can I do this? Is this okay? I didn't do this or that, am I okay? etc... It's just easier to tell people "use the slides for 100hr period" rather than going over a list of what to do otherwise. So just use your judgement, the slides aren't like magic cables or anything.

The only magic slides serve is to bring one's tv as close to the same state that D-Nice had his in when he calibrated the same model. If you're not going to apply D-Nice's settings then do what you want with them. They do not prevent IR.

They do age the pixels but so does watching tv. Will you get better blacks after running the slides for 100 hours? Maybe, it depends. Will you see the difference? Maybe, maybe not -- most likely, not.

First night with the TV

Got it mounted and calibrated with Dnice settings without the burn in period. No burn in period for me, as i'm outta town this weekend, and the misses will be watching quite a bit during this time. Let me say, this TV is AMAZING. I am leaving behind 3 LM6700's in a week and WOW WOW WOW. The apps are so much faster, menu's smoother, picture amazing, the uniformity is perfect, and the glare is SO MUCH LESS. The 6700 was like a damn mirror - it reflected everything, with this TV - i have zero glare in my living room. I also have zero buzz coming from the TV whatsoever.

At this moment I am in pure bliss, and am so happy I went the Plasma route.

thank you AVS for turning me onto this TV, all the great posters who helped.

TV bliss....

Anyone have any settings for daytime in a bright room?

The slides are more about making it easier on D-Nice than doing anything special. Notice how confused people still are over proper panel prep. The slides just allow D-Nice to say "use the slides if you want to use my settings" so he doesn't have to have a million discussions about how to break in a plasma for his settings. That doesn't mean other methods won't work just fine.
I just received my 50" ST50 today and the set is about 12 hours into D-Nice's slides. The whole process is pretty straight forward but I was extremely close to starting off on the wrong foot. I guess one of D-Nice's trademarks is that he's not exactly a blabber mouth when it comes to his explanations.

When his instructions say "Picture Mode: Custom", I obviously assumed that meant that the TV's main picture mode had to be set to Custom. It's not until several pages later that someone explains that the photo viewer has it's own separate picture setting that needs to be set to Custom.

I'm just wondering how many people out there made the same mistake that I (almost) made and had their new plasma go through the entire 100 hours in the wrong setting. I have to think I'm not the only one that misunderstood this crucial part of process. rolleyes.gif

(Edit: Apparently, people have been chiming in that they went through the D-Nice 100 hour slide process in the wrong "Custom" mode. It's being said that his calibration settings are worthless to these folks. That would truly suck to go through all that for nothing!)

Nope... sheshechic is right. The slides are meant to age the set the same way to remove the variable of how the set was aged during the 100hr break in period. During the first 100 hours of a new panel, the color slightly shifts and if the panel is aged differently, there's one more variable that will affect the results. Even if you follow his directions exactly, the results won't be perfect, but if you want optimal results, follow his instructions word for word.

The slides are also somewhat useful to age your set evenly during the break in period, even if you're not using his settings. I'm doing my own calibration but I plan on using the slides in-between regular use.

really cool review on amazon. absolutely love it:

Just pull the trigger, June 7, 2012

This review is from: Panasonic VIERA TC-P55ST50 55-Inch 1080p Full HD 3D Plasma TV (Electronics)
You've read the recommendations on CNET.
You've scoured through all the Amazon Customer Reviews.
You've even looked at all the 1 star ratings, worried that you'll be in the minority that doesn't love this tv.
You've been to shady parts of the internet looking for anything negative.
Deep down you know this is the TV for you.
Nothing's been said that hasn't been said already.
You could have been enjoying this tv a long time ago but you've been too busy researching.

May I ask why you keep posting reviews from Amazon?
sure. I think they're really cool.

is that bad for me to do?

I assure you I will stop immediately if it is. I love this forum and all the help I have gotten from people like you sheshechic. I have enjoyed many of your posts.

I apologize if this is not a good thing to do.

am just waiting for a really good sale and I will be getting most likely a 55ST50.

Not a problem, I was just wondering why. When you posted the first one I though you were promoting what might have been your own review, especially when I saw that you had posted it at another forum too. I think this is the 3rd one you've brought up and I just had to ask. That's all. I don't want to tell people what they can and cannot post etc, however there has been a bugger or two recently that I wanted to tell where to go. biggrin.gif

Oh and thank you for the kind words.
cool.

you're very welcome.

thank you again for the many excellent posts you have made.

the only reason I posted any of these reviews was because I thought it would help other people and also sometimes entertain them.

I certainly do not want to do it anymore if it is not appropriate.

I truly like this forum. there are a lot of really nice people here. and they have been really extraordinarily generous helping me figure out which tv to buy.

I am so looking forward to getting one of these. and I don't even really watch that much tv.

but I think this is gonna be a really awesome and fun to watch tv.

I also want to thank SheSheChic! I almost thought of the GT50 because of your remarks, but it was not within my budget unless I waitied for year end sales. So we got the TV we could afford now on a very good deal instead of waiting for the perfect deal. We pulled the trigger and are enjoying tremendously. Much Thanks
post #3435 of 9468
Where the heck is the blushing smilie?

Thank you both.

It is not a bad choice to stay within budget, that is why budgets are created smile.gif

Anyone else find the volume on the TV low at times? with direcTV and the netflix app, i find myself listening to the TV volume between 50 and 60 !? am I going deaf or what?
it's an injustice to listen to the TV speakers while watching that amazing picture on st50. You need to get some good speakers :-)

Ah.. I tried to watch netflix using the TV speaker and it was a letdown even at a higher volume, so you are not going deaf :-) My previous plasma was a monitor with no speakers, so my wife forced me to program a macro on the remote for switching everything with one button.

You may already be aware of this but just in case......
Any of the newer DirecTv receivers HR34/24, H25/24 are really simple to program the remote. No more trying endless codes. Just choose your equipment model from the on screen display, point the remote at the receiver. Once the code is learned select "Advanced" and cloose "Volume Lock" for audio pass through to your AV receiver.

If we don't bother turning the surround sound on, generally end up running the tv volume around 70 - even higher if on the ski machine & watching Mike & Mike!

Amazon is awesome. I called and explained my DSE / Vertical Line issue to the rep, and said that I was afraid my replacement would be just as bad or worse than what I have. I said I really don't want to keep exchanging back and forth. She said that she would ship me a replacement, and I could keep both sets until I determine which one is better. If I'm not satisfied with either, she said she would send a third, which I don't think I'll do. I'm pretty sure at this point I'm going to compare my replacement, and if it's better I'll keep it. If it's worse, I'll keep the original and ride out the rest of this year.

I returned a TC-P55GT30 a few months ago. I just could not get it bright enough for my bright room. Yes, it had an amazing picture when viewed at night but just gave up on trying to calibrate to my liking. I bought a Sharp 6400 LCD LED but the motion judder is not good with it's edge lit screen. If you can tell me if the TC-P60ST50 can be viewed well in a bright room and how is the reflection on it? Thanks in advance

My ST50 performs better than any plasma I've ever owned in bright light situations. It's a combination of the excellent contrast ratio and the louver filter. I've always needed to close the curtains during the day, but not with this set.

The filter really seems to do a great job. I even held a flashlight to the screen and it filtered it out when held at an angle. I suggest taking a flashlight to a local shop to see for yourself as the sets are usually in a dark room. Good Luck!

My 60ST50 is in a bright room and I don't have problems viewing it during the day. The filter does seem to work pretty well. I had more reflections with my 5-year old Panasonic 50" PZ700U plasma. With that one, I sometimes felt I couldn't wear a white shirt when watching TV, but that's not the case with the ST50.
