Depends on who you go with. Gregg was $400.

TV has just arrived! It looks beautiful! About to start the 100 hours of slides. There is one thing that has me slightly nervous. The build date is Feb 2012. I was really hoping to get a later build. I heard the later builds are a bit better in terms of IR or something of that nature. Hopefully its not a big deal.

Just ordered the 55", without the Soundbar. This is our first Plasma, our previous was also a panny, rear-projection LCD. The damned bulb kept blowing only about 1/3rd of the way into their rated lifespans. So instead of throwing another $100 for a new bulb that's only going to last about a year, I'd rather upgrade!

Now to read what all this talk is about 'IR' and 'Slides' !!

Thanks for that. It must look great.

The education provided throughout the calibration alone was worth the price. Not to mention the picture looks fantastic!

It's something I've always wanted to do but never did for some reason.

I've always wanted to do it as well but have never done it.

Reason: $400 biggrin.gif

Did anyone else run the slides for 100 hours STRAIGHT without shutting off the TV? I saw that it is safe in the FAQ, but I was just curious. Is it better to place a small fan behind the TV or in front of it?

I have never played it and it is sitting there in a brand new collector's box waiting for my new panel!! I could see myself wanting to do that the same day i receive the TV. Would that be a NO-NO eek.gif ???

The more time you spend playing content that is not the on the slides, the better chance you will have from being farther from D Nice's settings. No guarantees either way that the settings will work great on your panel since panels vary. But the option is to hire a guy for $400. Now considering there is a decent chance to have your panel looking very good without having to shell out $400, I would say its silly not to at least try the settings and follow the procedures closely.

Yes is perfectly fine with a small fan pointing at the TV from behind. My TV was cool to the touch even after 100 hours straight(with the fan). If something goes wrong its because the TV is defective.

At this point I will probably not run slides. I am not a videophile nor do I have the time or "excitement" to do this. I see it more of a chore. I will probably use D-Nice's OOB settings and hope for the best. As another poster pointed out, there's got to be thousands of plasma owners who never run these preps and are enjoying premium PQ right OOB and whatever differences there are between a prepped and non-prepped panel, my eyes will probably not be able to tell [enough of a difference] to be worth it to run slides for 100 hours!

I was under the impression that the #1 goal for prep slides was to avoid IR. In reading other posters comments, it has come to my attention that running slides is more for evenly wearing the pixels for proper calibration. Since I am no videophile, I am sure my eyes will not be able to differentiate [enough] a prepped vs non-prepped panel. I much rather get through the first 100 hours watching quality programming than full screens of red, green, grey etc...

I don't see a problem with the 100 hours unless you will be immediately replacing your current set with the new set. Surely nobody is actually watching these slides for 100 hours. I am just keeping it in a separate room for 100 hours and using the TV that it will be replacing once the 100 hours is complete. Out of sight out of mind.

Just ordered my 60ST50 from Amazon to be delivered next Tuesday afternoon. Could have had it sooner but life is busy and Tuesday was the day more convenient for me. I also picked up the Panasonic DMP-BDT500 for a hard to beat price.($100 lower from a local B&M with the yellow sign). Great looking player. cool.gif

I got my 65" ST50 last night. Ordered it last Tuesday with two day shipping.The called on Wendesday to schedule an appointment while my phone didn't have service. The called 5 minutes before there office closes...so I missed the call and when I called again the next day they couldn't schedule it until Tuesday of the next week.They said delivery would be between 1-6 (that's quite a large window for a Tuesday afternoon...) but it ended up being delivered at 7:45 mad.gif. There two day shipping easily turned into 7.

I started the slides in a room that has another panasonic plasma. When I was done watching TV I turned it off...not releasing the codes are the same for the new TV. So lost a few hours there...So I start the slides again, run over night and of course today while I'm at work the power goes out...

I'm off to a bad start so far. Hopefully smooth sailing from here out.

Usually between $300-400 dollars which should include travel fee For you calibrator (if applicable) and gets you three inputs calibrated (usually cable box, blu-ray and a roku or apple tv etc.). Have to say that I've had two RPTV's and the Panasonic 65PZ850U in my home theater all ISF calibrated and they all have great PQ. But my 42ST30 and my 55ST50 both looked so good out of the box with minimal tweaking I decided against getting them calibrated.

I had a similar experience with Amazon/CEVA. My 2 day shipping was actually 8!. I called amazon and they refunded my shipping charges (~$88) that I never paid b/c I was a prime member. They also started my 14 price match from date my tv was delivered. Oh, I got the 1-5pm delivery...it was 10pm when it got here. I'm not hard to please so I was just happy to get it and have no issues. I ran the slides but I am using THX and quite happy with the PQ. Never had a hint of IR.

I should do the same. I am a prime member so I skipped the shipping charge as well....

Have you watchrf anything on the set as of yet, are you seeing any of this picture softness being described on the other models? I am returning my VT50 55 for ST50. I don't like how the VT50 handles with my comcast box, I think I need to go smaller.

No, I haven't watched anything yet. I went to the slides as soon as I turned it on. Where is this picture softness issue being discussed?

Mine is tilted ever so slightly more to the left. Is it possible to fix this by adjusting the screws?

Over in the VT forums, they have been discussing picture softness among other issues.

Picking up a new st50 today after originally looking to buy an LED LCD. Can't believe the hype around LCD tv's, the picture is shite!

I currently have an older Panasonic TH 42px70a. The picture has always been decent in HD and SD.

Am I going to see much of an improvement on the st50?

Cheers

With out a doubt you will notice almost everything being better as I did the same plus going from a 42 to a 55 did not hurt either.

What source, who is your provider for television? I found Comcast didn't look so great on my VT50 but then I have older HD box. My friend has a GT50 and direct looks great on her TV. I'm thinking of taking my HD box over to her house and test it out on her TV. She has Comcast for internet only, so my box should work there.

I use HDMI for all connections .
BR = OPPO BDP-83
IP = Uverse
I calibrated using the Spears & Munsil Blue Ray settings ended up being close to D-Nice with the exception of sharpness is +22

I'm impressed with my set so far (50" ST50). Everything I've watched has looked great, ever streaming content like Downton Abbey on Hulu. Even playing video games for less than 4 hours at a time hasn't led to any IR issues. I did the D-Nice slides and post-panel prep settings. My only complaint is that the deep blacks are a double edged sword for video games since everything looks great in the Custom mode but games tend to 'want' to be played in Torch mode.
