Very worrisome... frown.gif
what mode are you in? I noticed the flashes while watching hockey but only If the TV is in standard mode, which I don't use anyways. In custom mode I don't get the flashes.

So what is lag like? Especially for cod cause I play cod a lot and want to maintain my kd. Can someone do a video to demonstrate lag on cod.

Does ST50 has 10-points grayscale & full CMS control in service menu? I'm considering to buy my first plasma TV but the lack of controls is a huge step-down for me

No, only the top of the line Panasonic VT50 models have 10point white balance and CMS controls.

Hi guys - first post in this thread. Just bought 65ST50B (UK model) - very pleased so far. Has anyone done the firmware update?  Mine is asking for update before it allows Internet connection. I am always wary of updating FW so I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has updated and if all went smoothly (via net) or if there were problems of any sort. Thanks!

I did the update on my 55ST50 and no problems as far as I know .

Thanks Oztech. Good to know.

Anyone else have a similar good experience?

I updated my 65ST50 FW the same day I got it and it worked perfectly since. Well until we accidentally cracked the screen but that was not due to the new FW...

My TV is on order, and I should see it in the next couple weeks. In preparation for the delivery I am researching break-in slides. What do you guys recommend?
Is this break-in method still the best?:

Please let me know what slides I should use, and what the best delivery method is (USB flash drive?)
Let me know if you have any tips for a newbie. This is my first plasma, my first smart TV, even my first flat-screen.

Howdy, Yes, I was exactly the same. Total newbie and I sound that way in my posts. biggrin.gif After 14 years with a Big Tube TV I converted all at once and love my ST50. I ran the prep slides for 100 hours and panel prep.

You can do a internet search or at High Def Junkies and there is a good resource there for running slides and panel prep. I just downloaded them to my USB flash and followed the instructions. We cannot repost here per request of the Calibrator who put them together.

The link you provided are for last years TV's and this years are a bit different. (Shading, Colours, etc,)

Good Luck!

Ouch! How did that happen if you don't mind me asking?

I also had no problems with the firmware since I updated it last week.

When you run the break-in slides do you keep it in torch mode? Not sure if this would age the phosphors faster/better or not for initial use. One thing I never read about plasmas is dead pixels on arrival. I expect the equivalent in burn in. I don't know if it's still as much of an issue with LCD TVs but I always feared getting dead pixels when I opened the box, especially on computer monitors.

Updated firmware on first install; it did say on finish it would restart but I waited awhile to find no actual restart...so I powered off/on and it was fine with the new firmware.

This was on a 50ST50 with a March 2012 production date.

It was a stupid accident while cleaning and going over the details just make me want to do self harm. Basically something bumped in to the screen pretty hard and it cracked. Freak accident.

As I understand, Standard mode is recomended for the ST50 as VIVID or Torch might not age the phospars evenly. Someone else might have other info.

Thanks Woody, that makes sense.

Thanks for the reply ludersven. I have had bad experiences in the past with FW updates, hence my caution. I may well let it do the update then. Fingers crossed....

Thanks guys - I have had a few responses now, here and on a different forum, and nobody has said they had a problem, so I will bite the bullet and let it update. Thanks again.

So I have a 65ST50 with a cracked screen. Does anyone know if there is a market for it? Like would a repair place want it for the spare parts? It is only 2 months old.

I was curious of how some folk crack their plasma screen? Is the common cause usually dropping it? Since I've never owned one before, I'd like to know what I can do to prevent it. I know most posts I've read have said it was the owners fault, but never explain what happened.

Does anyone have experience using the Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU AND the Samsung SSG-4100GB 3D glasses? I currently have a pair of the SSG-4100GB. They work quite well, but the fitment isn't that great and I do not like the open sides. I am wondering if its worth buying the TY-ER3D4MU glasses ($30 used) or should I just stick with the Samsung glasses. I was curious if they produced a better picture or if they had less crosstalk.

I have tried both the Panny and Samsung models you mentioned and know what you mean about the open sides on the Sammys. I see a slight reflection due to the open nature of our room on the inside of the Sammy glasses due to their design. 3D performance was the same IMO, but the Panny glasses were more comfortable for me. However, my wife and kids preferred the fit of the Sammy glasses as it hugs more - guess my head is just big. At any rate, we ended up keeping the Sammy glasses due to the better fit for them and low price (~$20). I may pick up a pair of the Panny glasses for myself if they ever drop in price. CNET did a review of these glasses and another model and found PQ was essentially the same. It comes down to your budget and how well they fit.

I was wondering if anyone has used a Kill-A-Watt to check power consumption of their ST50, the energy cost tag on the 50" says $21/yr at 5 hr/day, that would be 106 watts, the 55" I calculated to be 120 watts based on the EPA tag, but I was in a manual that it was ~340 watts, that's a big difference. Can anyone verify the power use?

Any action that would crack a mirror will crack a glass screen. Twisting, whacking, or dropping are ways that come to mind. A small child learning to throw hard objects may be a common method. wink.gif

Thank you for your reply. It took me a while to figure that one out that's for sure. Yes, considering my audio setup is 10-12 years old, I guess it's time to upgrade.
