For an investment of $2,000 it is good protection. I got a Squard Trade extended warrantry for 5 years for $330 for my 65 inch. That works out to just $5.50 a month for five years. Hopefully you never need it, but if you do, it comes in handy. I never had a single bit of trouble with my old plasma for 8 solid years of use, but I had an extended warrantry on that too. The point is labor for in home service calls is very expensive. A couple years ago I had a minor part fail on our furnace. The part was a little under $500 (hiway robbery) and the labor to install it another $275. A power board on a plasma set (the most likely board to fail) costs around $800 plus labor. So you're gambling.
