After first use i turned off the smoother effect which stopped the god aweful soap opera effect. Ive tried cnet and dnice settings and am still underwhelmed. the best description i can give is that its just a dull looking picture even with hd content. black is very black but it just doesnt seem to be a very clear or sharp image. Also noticed with the nba allstar pregame show a huge amount of pixelation with all the lighting affects and what appeared to be motion blur. reminded me of my old lcd. as a reference i have a 59" pnd8000 in my living room and love it so im no stranger to plasma.

Am i missing something here or do i just need to exchange it?

Please list all of your picture settings.

I guess you don't have a blu-ray player? If you do watch a blu-ray movie and then compare that to satellite. I have a 55ST50 and blu-rays are amazing, but some HD satellite content is underwhelming. Too much compression going on. I watch a lot of soccer and while the close up images of the players look good, when the camera is farther back (most of the game) the picture quality is pretty bad.

Another possible factor is that the ST50 has a softer, more film-like image, which many people aren't used to and/or don't like.

Hello,

Could you please tell me, for those who have 2012 Panasonic BD players (BDT500, ...) via VieraLink, which button on the TV remote makes the bluray Pop-up menu to appear on screen ?

I only use the TV remote while watching a movie, but I can't access this popup menu (nor the top menu) via a simple command on that remote.
Do I have to use the option button to go inside the BD player menu ?

Thank you.

I had two questions -

1) I have flatmounted the ST50 and therefore have connected all wires even though I am not using them now. I connected the optical out on tv.. is there a way to disable it thr menu. I see the red light glowing on the other end.
2) the picture quality is not as good as my lcd toshiba. I played some blu ray move from LG player at 1080 p and noticed uniformity issues. Am using 60 Hz .. tried 24 and that was bad. Dont know how to describe it.
Is there a way to check for PQ from some slides etc?

BTW went thr the 100 hour panel prep etc D- type.

How do you have your bluray player connected? HDMI? What seeting are you using? Custom? Movie? The ST50 will kill the LCD Toshiba in picture quality. Post your settings and connections.

Is it possible to post pics from what you are seeing, One from toshiba and one from ST50? uniformity issues? Do all blurays look like that or only some? remember you are comparing a 50" to a 37" regardless Bluray should look stunning.

Is Verizon Fois HD actually any better PQ than Comcast HD?

I got a pretty good offer from Fois and they are trying to tell me the PQ will be better. They are both 1080i so i don't think so but...? Trying to figure out if I wan't to switch.

Any difference will be determined by the amount of compression used by Comcast and Fois in your area and the actual connection to your home.

Ask for references from people who live close to you that have switched.

Ok thanks but i have a question...
I noticed the last time comcast came out to install a new box that the technician actually manually set the amount of compression on a service menu. Options were low, med.,high and he set it to high. So unless they are mandated to set it to a high compression setting, would trying to get the tech to set it lower actually help with PQ??

I have Comcast and I've never noticed anything like what you're describing. Did you ask the technician to explain what he was doing? I can't figure out why such a setting would be on a house by house basis. Could it be that your account is a high speed account?

I'm not sure. I didn't even think to ask because I didn't think anything of it until later when I heard people talking about how overcompressed cable was and how that affected PQ. So i wonder if it is controllable and if it will have any noticeable affect at all. I think i'm gonna ask a tech when/if I get fios installed.

anybody have issues connecting this to a denon receiver(avr 1612) via hdmi? I'm having hdmi handshake issues for audio out to my tv speakers. I have video and audio working on standby hdmi passthrough, however when I turn the receiver ON, the tv no longer has audio coming out. Anybody have experience with this problem for the st50? I know connecting via optical cables will solve the solution, but I want to be able to use tv speakers exclusively (via hdmi) when I want to and then use my home theater speakers exclusively.

by turning on viera link I'm enabling arc right?
another guy tells me I leave hdmi control on the receiver and turn off viera link on the panasonic. I have no idea now lol.

Hello,

I wanted to share a problem I have with my P65ST50 (EU Version).
With some Blu-ray Discs, I have sometimes, some flickering in the image (bright scenes more noticeably).
The image is somehow, very slightly and discreetly, flashing (bright and dark) on some scenes.

When the image is in "PAUSE", no flickering at all.

I noticed that the only way to make the flickering stopped, was to set the Picture Noise Reduction setting to MAXIMUM !

Do you have any idea why this is happening ?

My sources are : DMP BDT 500 / PS3. (Same problem with both)

Thank you very much for your help.

Try setting the 24p conversion to 60.

Hi,

I do not have this option on my set (EU model). At least if I'm not mistaking.

Did you have this issue too ?

Many people do. Look under the Advanced Menu picture options.
If you do not have this option on the tv then set the blu ray player to output 60Hz.

But I would have judders then ? And I saw the same thing in 24p selected on NO on my BD player.

I will put the PNR in AUTO mode, it does soften the flickering issue.

I know that it is technically incorrect and counterintuitive but many have found that the judder and flashing are less with the tv or bdp set at 60 Hz. Perhaps you have a different problem.
Ok. I will try again then.

Nevertheless, PNR do much good in my situation.

Thank you very much.

Verizon does not compress any further from the signal they get like satellite and cable do. Vz looks great on my 55st50 but when i had dish most of my viewing was on a 32in TV and there is no difference there. But might be different on a big screen. Even on the st50 coming from having a 40, 47, 50in TVs last year before getting my panny, 2 LCD and another plasma, the st50 shows off more imperfections if the station's just isn't that good. So if i did have dish on it who knows how it would look. Sd also looks very good on fios while it looked awful on dish. The only thing I would say about fios is if you do switch make sure you get the new Dvr, all black moto, worlds better than the old ones. We actually switched to dish because those were so bad and only went back because I had a chance to try out the new one at a friends house. I was even about to cancel the install when he was only going to put one in and the other two were going to be the old ones, I got all new ones after that, we have 3 dvrs. They are still not as good as dish boxes but much closer and probably better or similar to cable. Plus to me the internet in itself is worth it, we have stayed with them for internet for 5 years, with the TV and without because cable could just not compare, no downtime, no slowdowns, we have a big family with lots of devices and they all get the rated speeds even if we are all connected at once.

Good grief not again. We turned to the hockey game Saturday night and there on the right hand side was a green blob like our ST30 had. At least the screen hasn't turned pink, yet.

I received a Turtle Beach x12 headset for xmas and wanted to know if it's possible to use em with this tv or my BDT 210 player? I can't seem to get it to work with either but it does work with the xbox and my PC. The tv doesn't have any audio out ports so I doubt it can work with it. Hmmm......

Well I'm hoping my choice was a good one. I had my choices narrowed down to the GT50 and Samsung E8000. I pulled the trigger on the 60GT50 and it's shipping today. I've had a plethora of TV's over the years. From Sony SXRD's, Local Dimming LED (none of the edge light business)and my trusty and flashlighty (< not a word I know) 52XBR6. This will be my first plasma. The TV will go down in my basement and be used for movies and gaming. I've read about all the IR issues with these new sets and said well you will never know unless you try. I have a 30 day return window and if it doesn't work for me I may break down and get the Samsung.

Anyways delivery is supposed to take place this Wednesday and since the TV is in the basement and I don't use it much, I'll be running break in slides for probably a good 200 hours. I then plan to watch A LOT of full screen content before putting it through its paces.

Wish me luck!

There are many ST50 owners (if not more) posting in the GT50 and VT50 threads.
