Sorry folks....I'll post in the GT thread. I actually thought I did. I've been reasearching on all the models ST, GT and VT and didn't pay enough attention to witch one I was in.

It's not a big deal, the GT50 is internally an ST50 but with a few more features so unless you're talking about one of the GT-specific features the other discussion (IR, 3D, buzzing, etc) pretty much covers both models.

Yeah, my GT50 started developing those issues before it broke too (as did my last Samsung plasma). I was hoping it was a fluke but now you are the second person to mention the issue with a 2012 Panasonic. Hmm...it is a bit worrying cuz I plan on getting a 2013 Panasonic plasma to replace it.

Anyone else see the green/pink bands or blobs on thier sets? It is really only noticeable on white screens. It easily shows up while watching hockey.

I just picked up one of these. Incredible picture quality. Very happy with my purchase. Now I am just waiting on my KEFs to arrive smile.gif .

Also, can I hookup a USB wireless mouse and keyboard?

Keyboard...no problem.
Mouse....nope. (No mouse driver in the memory of the tv. But all the arrows on the keyboard seem to move the cursor around. Not perfect, but fairly easy to get used to.) cool.gif

Any chance of getting a Turtle beach x12 to work with this tv?

My 50ST50 is arriving tomorrow between 12 and 4. It will immediately go through the hockey test. *crosses fingers*

Does this include not needing to break in before altering custom settings?

Yes. You can alter Custom settings right out of the box if you like. I would keep the contrast below 85 for the first 100 hours or so.

Unless you're going to use someone's (D-Nice) custom settings that intentionally went through a break-in process that they recommend you follow to get similar results, then yes it includes entering custom settings.

What would a hockey test be for a plasma TV, exactly? confused.gif

Hi guys, I just purchased the ST50 and should be arrivng shortly. I understand the TV needs proper configuration for a nice picture. I saw cnet.com calibration (http://forums.cnet.com/7723-19410_102-559444/panasonic-tc-p55st50-picture-settings/?tag=StickyWin_1332962727578;createThreadPopup) and was wondering if these are any good. If not, does this forum have an official ST50 settings thread or can you point me somewhere with good settings for a room with semi bright natural light?

Also I understand I don't need to buy Panasonics 3D glasses. Can someone recommend a good set of 3D glasses for a good price?

Thanks in advance.

I initially set it up using the calibration from CNET, but reverted back to standard picture mode until the 100 hour break in period. Had it on their settings for maybe 15 minutes. I will read D-Nice's post.

Thanks for the help!

Also, would anyone mind linking D-Nice's calibration post? Having trouble finding it.

Right out the box, I used CNet's recommendation for my ST50's settings, tweaking brightness, contrast, chroma and hue with my WoW disc (the changes were extremely slight.)

Then I ran the first 100 hours with regular full-screen movie and video game content (try Dead Space, a phenomenal game that conveniently has no static images during play).

My picture is incredibly beautiful and I've experienced zero retention. If this ever changes, then I promise that I'll report back to this thread immediately.

(Enjoy your damn TVs already.)

I have never in my life posted to a forum but feel I have to for some help. Last week I got an incredible deal on a 55st50 and was super hype because cnet said its 3rd best overall among HDTV with the other two being premium priced sets. My problem is the same as the post on top of this page. No abl, no buzzing, tv works flawless and blacks are crazy. But I feel the picture is INCREDIBLY SOFT it lacks sharpness and is underwhelming. I tried d-nice, I tried c-net, and other settings... So now I'm at a cross roads-take it back? Get it calibrated? Age it more? Picture just isn't crisp and impressive. I sold my old LG 46LD550 LCD for this set and now I feel a little disappointed. My lg was too small and black wasn't as good but after doing the picture wiz it was really a head turner. I expected this new nearly top of the line set to blow it away and now I'm at a loss. Please HELP!!!!! I would be returning the deal of the century.

Setup
Comcast Motorola cable box (hdmi 1080i)
Toshiba bdx3300 blu-ray (also own an lg blu-ray)
Denon avr-1913 infinity primus speakers

Thanks. I guess I'm a tad confused, are we supposed to only do the pixel aging post 100 hour break in or does this count for the breakin. It is this that confuses me:

This procedure is NOT designed nor recommended to be used as Break-in, Image Retention and/or Burn-in preventionntion

The green blob is located right where there's a hot spot on the back of the TV.

The slides are technically not for break in. They are for prepping your panel for the first 100 hrs in the same way that DNice did so that his calibrated settings will result in a closer match to your panel. He also has "out of the box" settings if this is all too much for you.

Thanks. I guess I am getting caught up on what determines "break-in," vs what doesn't. I'm willing to give this a try, it doesn't sound like it is too difficult, just getting caught up on some terminology.

Have you tried playing with Sharpness? On digital displays, Sharpness is a bunch of tomfoolery, but some people like it. Most of the calibrations you'll find, set it to a very low value or zero; but maybe you should try it as a last resort.

The problem here is you're being introduced to a true to life display. Your LCD probably made images brighter and sharper than they should have looked. Even at 100 sharpness you still can't get close to the sharpness that some LCD's have. Have you tried Blu-Ray's, don't any HD channels look good? I'm talking about the non-big name network shows, since most of those just look bad. Try running some of these through your TV, they look incredible on my GT50, even with no sharpness. I have used packs 1 and 2. It's not the TV that's the problem.

The 2 UT50 models I have had over the past 2 weeks exhibited a massive amount of white flashing followed by black flashing. The ST50 may save the day in respect to viewing hockey. A friend of mine has the ST and VT and he feels comfortable viewing hockey. I'm simply hoping for a better experience.

White flashing is perfectly normal. Those are the camera flashes triggering the ABL. What is black flashing?
