In order to get burn-in you would need to watch the exact same source with the exact tame fixed image for a long time. It seems logical that under those circumstances you would know where your "small circle-ish image" came from. So far it sounds like you have image retention, and it would help if you could figure out what source caused it.

I do play xbox games on it but I cannot seem to figure out where the image came from. I'm thinking maybe NBA2k11 game but unsure. It looks like a shape of a mushroom. It appears when the screen is bright, like during commercials and things like that. You can't see it during dark scenes.

I ran the slides again all night and now running the image retention slider for a couple hours. I hoping it will disappear.
Give the games a rest, and concentrate on full screen programming for a while. The Pixar movies are a lot better than running slides or any other gimmicks. You want random aging to eliminate IR.

Hey y'all
I'm having some trouble with my panasonic television and was hoping someone could help me out. Basically I am having an issue when I run my playstation 3 through my receiver which is connected to my television. However the tv works perfectly fine when I have the playstation connected directly to the television input. The problem is by doing this, I no longer get 5.1 surround sound from my playstation, for my blu rays. I have contacted panasonic support and they say the problem is the receiver, I have also contacted denon support and they say its the television. The issue is that basically I lose picture for a moment and get this gray static.
^^^Have you tried a different HDMI cable? Have you checked all of the audio settings in the receiver?

Has anyone had any experience with buying refurb tv's?

As someone new to AVS you may want to try to provide more detail about your setup. That will, most of the time, get you faster and better help.

For instance we know this.

We don't know how often or when that happens. We don't know which TV and AVR you have or how they are connected.

If you are using HDMI cables for your connections and these short static events seem to be happening randomly , then you may be having HDMI handshake problems caused by marginal data transmission. Give us more detail so that we can narrow down the possible answers to your problem.

The fact that connecting your PS3 directly to the TV fixes the problem, makes it sound very much like a HDMI problem that can be happening anywhere in the HDMI chain from your PS3 to the TV. This is all probably leading to the advise to check all your HDMI connections and cables. One way to check the cables is to use each one in the chain to connect your PS3 directly to the TV. If they all work. then look at each connection for any strain in the cable that might weaken one or more of the HDMI connections. Stiff cables with bends close to the connection can cause this problem. If none of that works, then make sure that all your HDMI cables are rated for high speed data transmission.

Panasonic reportedly exiting plasma market after this year; R&D halted

Hey guys, thanks for the support so far my system is a 60ST50 it is connected to my 1612 denon receiver which supports 5.1 surround sound. I will verify that this issue happens regardless of the hdmi cables I have switched them various times even bought new cables, I always check to see if the cables are connected correctly which they always are. I have included a video of the exact issue I have and the problem. I contacted Panasonic in December and they sent me a technician who replaced the inputs on the back of the t.v. this reduced the frequency of the problem but after a few weeks it started up again.

Video of the problem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl65NoJxSLE[/URL]

If your HDMI cables are heavy gauge, they can sometimes damage the device connector if there is any strain on that connection. What gauge are your HDMI cables? Monoprice has some very flexible cables. You might want to try one for the connection to your TV. The Panasonic HDMI inputs are located in such a way that bending the cable can cause trouble.

You might try one of these.

Does anything change if you move your HDMI cable to a different connector at the TV?

My St 50 that I bought from Amazon at the end of last Feb (2012) went out of warranty at the beginning of this month. I forgot about it but never got an extended warranty. Can I still purchase this or am I just too late? Thanks for any help.
You should contact and warranty company you're interested in to be sure, but you're probably out of luck. I think they all need you to buy your warranty plan within a month of the item's purchase.

I got a perfect pair of used ones off eBay for $60 or you can get the Samsung (ssg-4100gb???) ones and they are only $20

Thanks Bigg, it looks like EBay is the way to go.

How are the weight, comfort, and battery life? How do you charge them, and do you wear Rx glasses under them?

I have both samsung and panny. I'm a big guy 6'4" 240lbs and I wear Rx glasses and I have big Oakley glasses that would be too big for 95% of ppl and I wear the biggest size they make in a fitted hat. And I can wear either pair with my glasses on, panny is better built better fit you can charge in a couple of minutes. Sammy are cheap feeling and they run on a watch battery rated at 150hrs of use. Panny shuts out more light because of frame design other than that image quality is about the same.

And the panny charges with a cell phone style standard mini USB

That's a ton of useful info, thank you very much. Last question--are you saying that the Samsung pair can't be recharged? You just buy another watch battery?

Yes the Samsung model uses a replaceable cheap lithium coin cell battery. I got a pack of 5 of the batteries for under $2 on ebay and still haven't used up the first battery after 6 months.
Its a very common battery type used with many other devices, its the same type used in my car stereo remote control and garage door opener remote for example.

I see Panasonic is going to provide a couple 3D glasses with the new 2013 plasma models, but they also will use the same type of replaceable lithium coin cell (not rechargeable) battery.
In some ways that can be an advantage because with the Panasonic 2012 rechargeable model glasses the internal battery can't be replaced after its useful life is gone, after some limited number of recharges (like with all rechargeable batteries)

You know, I'd been thinking about rechargeable batteries' useful life, after the last few years of mobile phones. It's an important point, really, besides the (admittedly minor) hassle of charging rechargeables.

I think I may be sold on a two-stage plan where I pick up two pair of Samsung glasses and use them until the 2013 Panasonic glasses arrive, whereupon I'll buy two pair of those and retire the two Samsung pair to the guest seats. I'm pretty sure I'll dig the Panasonic fit and design, that wraparound style is very appealing.

Which specific battery type is it? I see several varieties, all of them named with a different four-digit series. It doesn't matter a whole hell of a lot but I would like to buy extras along with my first two pair of glasses.

Edit--looks like they're the 2025 type. Well, it looks like a next-paycheck purchase. Big thanks as always, everybody; you guys are the best smile.gif

Samsung makes rechargeable and non-rechargeable models. The non-rechargeable ones are cheaper and use user-replaceable lithium watch batteries AFAIK. The chargeable ones are like the Panasonic ones and can be charged via USB.

SSG-4100GB are the non-rechargeable ones and SSG-3550CR are the rechargeable ones.
