Klipsch RW-12d with Denon 2312CI

Hi Guys,

I am pretty new to the AV world. Based on discussions i saw here - I've purchased Klipsch RW-12d sub, Denon 2312CI receiver and JBL 190 5.0 package speakers.

I tried hooking up the speakers with the receiver and everything seems to be good.

I hooked up RW-12d sub with Denon 2312 receiver using an AV Cable and an RCA Y adapter. Please see the exact links below:

I hooked up them and tried to play music; but unfortunately, i dont hear anything from the subwoofer. Am i doing something wrong? The woofer is on, but I dont hear any bass or sound from it. Any settings that i have to look at on the receiver?

Please suggest. Appreciate your response.

You don't need the Y cable. the sub woofer manual will explain it.

You have to enable the subwoofer in the AVR (setup menu area). Also running it's auto setup should get everything working.

Thanks for the info kmannth.

I also removed the Y adapter and tried to connect it; unfortunately, i cannot get it to work. I've gone thru the whole Denon manual, but didnt get it to work.

I was looking for someone using Denon 2312 (or) a similar Denon Receiver to guide me with detailed steps to setup the sub.

Can someone plz help???

Did you run the auto setup program? Plug in the mic and run the program.

Did you read the "Setting up your System" part of your manual?

Press the menu button on your AVR remote and look around.

Setup, speaker configuration, and anything with subwoofer is what you are looking for.

You need to make sure the AVR know that the surround and center speakers are present.

When you ran Audyssey, did you hear output from the subwoofer? Can you post, here, the settings for the speaker sizes and crossovers that were applied after you ran Audyssey?

It is possible that after running Audyssey your AVR set your 2 front speakers to LARGE. If this is what it did, then with 2-channel music, there will be no output from the subwoofer. Set the front speakers to SMALL with an 80Hz crossover and see what happens.

Hi sivadselim,

You're correct. I'm using exactly the same speakers shown on the link.
As of now, I have just setup 2 standing and a center speaker only.
I myself have set the front speakers to LARGE. Do have to set them to SMALL inorder for subwoofer to work???

Let me try these once i go home.

If you set them to SMALL, those frequencies below the crossover setting will be sent to the subwoofer. You can also use the LFE+Main setting with the LARGE setting and bass will be sent to the subwoofer. But your speakers, although they may seem to be large, should not really be set to LARGE.

Did you run Audysey or not? Even without all the speakers connected, you could still benefit from running it. If it sets your front speakers to LARGE, change them to SMALL with a 40, 60, or 80Hz crossover. Experiment.

Batpig's Denon and Audyssey guides are very helpful for understanding how to setup your receiver. And then here is the AVS Audyssey guide that specifically addresses subs, although I think batpig is better for understanding Audyssey and Denon configuration in general.

Here are the settings for the speaker sizes and crossovers that were applied after I ran Audyssey:

Speaker Config Check
Front: Large
Center: Large
Subwoofer: Yes
Surround: None

Distance Check
Front L: 11.6ft
Front R: 11.2ft
Center: 10.8ft
Subwoofer: 16.5ft

Channel Level Check
Front L: 0.0dB
Front R: + 0.5dB
Center: + 0.5dB
Subwoofer: - 12.0dB

Crossover Freq Check
Front: Full Band
Center: Full Band

As said, i change the subwoofer mode to LFE+Main, changed the front & center speakers to small & cross frequency to 60Hz; but the volume is very low.

I tried all the possible one's; subwoofer seems to be working; but i dont see much bass untill i increase the volume till +2 db. After that +9 db is the max that it shows me and it seems to be alright at +9 db.

Any issue with my subwoofer (or) am i doing something wrong?

Please suggest.

This is too low. And it means that your subwoofer's own volume was set too high when you ran Audyssey. Turn the subwoofer's own master volume down and rerun Audyssey until the value for the subwoofer's level trim comes out to be closer to "0.0dB".

And setting your speakers to SMALL with a 60Hz crossover sounds reasonable. You may even want to try 80Hz for the center channel. The 'LFE+Main' setting is only applicable when the front speakers are set LARGE.

I tried all possible options based on your suggestions, but I still couldn't get the subwoofer working. I have to return this woofer back to newegg as it looked defective. Will have to try something else during some other deals.
