Please recommend me a AV processor/preout with at least 4 HDMI inputs

Doesn't need to be 7.1 or 9.1 as I only plan to use a 5.1 setup.

Looking for a decent AV processor with no amp, only preamp outputs. Bonus if you can find some with XLR outputs instead of RCA.

Looking to spend under $600 but if you see something good +/- $100 please include it in this list. I'm not too picky about brands.

What you're looking for doesn't exist as far as I know. I think the cheapest pre-pro is the Marantz that lists for about $1500.
There's currently more value in buying a receiver, like a Denon or Anthem for example, and just not using the amps. That's what I did.

I mainly wanted one without an amp so the unit will be smaller but I suppose we can expand this to include receivers with built in amps with preouts. Sadly I have a Denon AVR890 which is a very nice receiver but has no preouts. I don't really want to downgrade just to get preouts.

And the cheapest AV processor w/o an amp is $1500? Thats entry level? Jeez.

Separates have always been more expensive, those on a budget usually don't get separate amps. Most companies charge more to take the amps out, at least Onkyo/Integra actually charge a little less.
I agree with you on the size factor, I liked the small profile of my BK pro, my new Anthem is much taller and heavier.

They had issues when it first came out, but it seems those issues have long been resolved. Plus it comes with a 40% discount card for upgrading when their new one comes out. This has 2 benefits: Their $1500 processor will cost you substantially less if you decide to upgrade; OR you can sell the card (going rate ~$200) anfd that means the UMC-1 will only cost you about $300 in the end. Can't beat that with a bat!

It had tons of bugs when it was released, and I've read conflicting reports as to whether or not those bugs have yet to sorted out.

I think i'm just going to wait till i can catch a marantaz av7005 on ebay for $1000. I really want balanced xlrs and I'm willing to wait for a good deal.
