OneCall has them at $430 shipped and in stock listed on their site (maybe less with a phone call, but IDK). Not bad as last week they were just under $500.

I wonder what the power consumption will be for the new model? It now has a "scaler", and to me that's a problem if you don't need one. Because for the 2012 models the ones with the scaler (2312CI and 3312CI) used significantly more power than the lower-end models.

You're talking pennis a month I bet, doubt it would matter a whole lot. Even if it cost you 50 cent - $1 extra a month would that bother you?

The 2312CI and 3312CI have a more robust amp section and likely a larger power suppy. The power rating is 105W per channel vs 90W for the 1712 and 1912.

The Denon AVR 1911 has an Anchor Bay scaler and consumes 460W while the Denon AVR 1712 and 1912 do not have a scaler and consume the same 460W. So I don't think the scaler is the issue.

The new AVR 1913 also uses 460W and has a video scaler. I think your worry is a non issue.

The higher end models use more power because they have better amp sections and better feature sets. I'd want that in my receiver!

Why? If you don't use the scaler (as many don't) you can simply turn it OFF.

Your chance for a 2112 may be running out. EE and J&R are both out of stock. The sales rep stated they wont be getting anymore in stock. 2113 in stock at J&R. However, you can get a 2312 like I did for 99 cents cheaper that that new 2113. 2113 is $499.00 at J&R. I asked how many was in stock and they have at least 100 in stock, so the price may get lower yet.

I don't know if Denon will be "smart" when things are turned off. Do they reduce power or do they just not use the functionality? E.g. the 2312 is noticably warmer just idling (in a showroom) than the 2112.

It's really the power issue that bugs me. No AVR will draw 460 W continuous. But in my town just 1 W of power on 24/7 is $1 per year. So if the AVR draws another 40 W that's another $40 per year. So what? Well, I have 4 TiVo HDs, each over 40 W, that's $160 per year right there. I've got so many UPSes, computers, wall warts, game consoles, etc., that my power bill is ridiculous. Plus my utility uses a lot of coal and natural gas, so there's all the carbon emission nonsense. Etc.

I love high tech toys, I just think we need to be a lot wiser about how much electricity they all use.

So if I can get a 2113ci for $499, or a 2112ci for $430, is there any reason why I wouldn't just get the newer model? I don't really care about the scaler, so then the differences are really losing AM radio but gaining a better GUI and Airplay for zone 2? Has anyone seen the GUI for the xx13 models? I wonder how much better they are than the xx12 models. I do like the way the new models look.

Which you choose is based on what features/inputs/outputs you need. Note however, that what you gain in the 2113CI is "independent" Airplay to Zone 2 as Airplay can still play to Zone 2 on the 2112CI as well, however, it's also got to be selected in the main zone too.

In a showroom, the AVRs are generally ON and not in Standby and on average a 2112CI or 2312CI will draw about 80W in idle and 100W at reference volume. As you noted, the video card on the 2312CI produces a lot more heat then no card in the 2112CI.

The 2112 really hit my sweet spot but now, those that still have them in stock aren't discounting them as much as before. Calling around, the best I can find is mid-400's shipped. May have to step up to the 2312 or down to the 1712...not sure how much I would use the networking anyway.

Anyone know where to get the 2112 with a price starting with a 3?? Or the 1712 near the mid-$200's?
