Choosing speakers for HT-RC360

Hey everyone,

I recently got an Onkyo HT-RC360 for my birthday for use with movies, games, and music, but I've yet to get speakers. I'm on a very tight budget and in my interwebz travels I've come across two older Onkyo 7.1 speaker sets, the HT-S780 and the SKS-HT540, both for about $100 each.

I am relatively new at all of this and still confused about some of the ends and outs such as wattage, ohms, etc. So with the HT-RC360 in mind and the HT-S780 and SKS-HT540 as options, is one of them "better" then the other or would they basically be the same to my non-audiophile ears?

At the moment, I'm looking for a cheap, temporary 7.1 solution. So I want to get everything at one go. Later on down the line, I'll piece together a crack squad of speakers.

What I am unsure of is if the SKS-HT540 is inherently "better" than the HT-S780.

As to coin flipping versus hat pulling, I think we can all agree making a decision using a hat, say a stove pipe, beats using a coin any day.

I'm not actually buying off Amazon, someone on CL is selling the HT-S780 and the SKS-HT540 is on eBay.

I'm still new at this and didn't realize that speakers had an inherent volume; that explains the speaker db ratings I suppose.

Seems to me a lower db rating would only influence my maximum volume, so as long as I don't want to blow my roof off, it wouldn't be a big deal, right?
