JBL mr145 car stereo issues

My stereo has no audio and when inserting a cd, it only says "error". I have also noticed a loud popping sound spontaneously come from the stereo itself, even when off. It all seems to be connected correctly, I do receive power, but get no audio and the stereo will not find any stations, any ideas?

Yes. It is broken . You have multiple issues with it. Given the $150 price, it is not worth repairing. Just get a new unit.

I should also say that it did work before we mounted it.

In that case, you might make sure the case is grounded and the harness pinouts are correct.

Will it function again if you 'un-mount' it? That would be a big clue.

Well, I'm not sure or not whether that would help or not. I wasn't really too heavily involved in the installation, I was trying to help out my dad by coming here. The thing is, it is in a golf cart, so it isn't really mounted per say, it is simply attached to a bracket on the roof.

Can you describe the wiring? Is your Golf cart battery operated or gas? If former, there are different voltages in there and you need to make sure you are feeding the unit 12 volt, not 48 volt or whatever the native supply is.
