5.1 Surround placement (TV in corner) HELP!

I have just bought a house with a basement. Pretty sweet setup. Though Ive never had my TV in a corner before. I really dont want to move it from the corner because it will eliminate room for a future wet bar and pool table. I just got a really nice leather theater style sectional that curves. I drew a picture of what im working with and what i believe is the best place for my speakers. I am just not sure if I should put the speakers on stands, on the wall at ceiling, or on the end tables. I have a somewhat budget system. A Pioneer VSX-520 receiver, polk audio rm7 satellite speakers (two front, to back, and center), and a polk audio ps-10 woofer. I am using 16 gauge wire. Could someone give me their input?

First off, congrats on the new home!

IMO, the location of your surrounds is fine, but placing them on the end-tables might set them too low relative to your ears when you're sitting down. I suggest either stands or tilt-and-swivel mounts so that you can wall-mount the surrounds and aim them at your listening position.

BTW, don't be surprised if your sub doesn't perform very well in that large basement (concrete floor) HT room. Once you lose "floor effect" (vibration transmitted through suspended-floor joists), the sub has to pressurize the entire room...and I don't think the PS(W?)10 is up to the task. On the bright side, that means: subwoofer upgrade!!

Read up on the room treatment thread- and get a calibration disc [free AVS download-here]- and RS meter- if you don't have auidyess.

Personally, I don't like the idea of pointing the surround speakers directly at the listener. Often the surround information coming from them is intended to, NOT be localized.

...but this is not about me, and what I prefer. It is about discovering the correct way to configure ones system for the most convincing sound in the average home theater...doing it right. That is ultimately what I want to achieve.
