what speaker wire for B&W CM9?

Hey guys, I had CM9+CM Center+CM1 with Marantz SR7005 to use both for music and HT. I know these are not high end speakers but also not the cheaper ones, so how much money I should spend for the speaker wires. Should I just order from monoprice.com (I plan to order banana plugs from them) or I should buy something with brand and more expensive? THX.

I use these: http://www.emotiva.com/shop/cart.php...ct_detail&p=64

More expensive version (can't speak for sound differences, probably none): http://www.emotiva.com/shop/cart.php...ct_detail&p=66

Speaker wire is speaker wire, no exceptions.

Your speakers were expensive enough. Save where you can. I bought a pair of those nice X-Series cables from Emotiva, really nice, 10G and use them on my fronts.

Then I wised up and bought a 100ft roll of 12g from Monoprice, termination kits from Emotiva and some cable covers and made my own. I ended up with cables almost as nice as the Emos and paid waaaaaaaaay less.

I would get the Monoprice cables, but get the Emotiva Termination Kit. The Monoprice banana plugs tend to loosen up over time. Other options for banana plugs are Nakamichi, GLS, and Monster.

Why didn't you go for the cmc2 center? Much better reviews and more of a match to your mains.

Congrats on your new speakers. Monoprice speaker wire will work just fine.

Thank you for all of you. I think I will buy the Emotiva Termination Kit with monoprice wires.Should I pickup regular version or in-wall version though I will not wire them in wall.

I do much much more music than HT. Although I watch and listen to a lot of BD concerts/shows and SACDs. I think center channel is not that important to me, so to the subwoofer.

I got the inwall version for the jacket covering. That way I had something to cover. In fact, I got the 12/4 because I have two sets of binding posts on my speakers. Here's a couple of finished pictures.

it looks awsome. Where can I buy the cable covers you got?
PS: You use bi-amp setup, now I'm interested to know what amp you use?

It looks like 'TechFlex', which comes in a range of sizes and colors.

Bi-amp. Using two amps per speaker. Put lots of power to the speaker.
Bi-wire. Using one amp but spliting the wire. Sending one to the HF and one to the LF part of the crossover. None effective.

Thanks. I use Emotiva amps, a 3ch and 2ch. But my speakers are bi-wired. And as the previous two posters stated; It is techflex that I'm covering my cables with, and as far as the "effectiveness" of bi-wiring, I prefer my method to the stock jumpers that come with the speakers. So instead of sending a transfer of copper to gold plated to gold plated, it's reduced to copper to gold plated X 2.

The techflex comes in many different colors and shapes. You can learn a lot about making your own cables on this thread here; http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1301573

Thanks Geo, last question, what size of sleeve I should use for 12AWG wires.1/8,1/4,1/2?

You may want to see THIS thread.

But this isn't biwiring and these jumpers don't provide any benefit over the stock jumpers. Especially not an audible benefit.

No, it doesn't. The increase in power to the speaker when passively biamping is minimal.

For 2 conductor wire, the 1/2 should work fine, I used 3/8 for my 12/4.

My humblest apologies. Please let me rephrase my statement; I've bi-wired my center and surrounds, and have made home made jumpers for my mains.

The spades didn't work out very well at all, so I removed the spades and did bare wire under the bottom set of terminals.

Thanks to those that like the look, and for those that don't, it's a good thing it isn't your system

ACTIVE Bi-amping! Hooking up two 100 watt amps to one speaker will net 200 watts to the speaker. 100 watts to a tweeter and 100 watts to a mid/bass. Read what I posted earlier. As for the effect, a roughly 3 dB increase in noise.

The only thing you posted in this thread was:

Are you describing connecting the 2 amps to the upper and lower binding posts on a biwireable/biampable speaker like the ones pictured in this thread? If so, that is 'passive biamping' and it does not double the power driving the speaker. Nowhere near that.

And even with an active biamping setup with 100 watts driving the woofer, no one would drive their tweeter with a full 100 watts.
What Geoff is doing is bi-wiring (kind of). Bi-amping, exactly like I described, is using two separate amps per speaker. I was using 100 watts as a example. Has anyone done this? Probably.
Personally, I don't see the need for either one but, to each there own.

And you mean just connecting each amp to the two separate pairs of binding posts on the speaker, right? That's 'passive biamping' and, in your example, it doesn't send 200watts (100+100) to the speaker. Nowhere near that. The speaker's crossover's high section reduces the amount of power that reaches the tweeter, considerably. In your example, you are probably getting something more like 110watts to the speaker. The tweeter might get 10watts relative to the woofer getting 100watts.

If crossovers truly do that, I stand corrected. But yes. one amp for the two upper posts and one for the two bottom posts.

Yep, that's one thing that a crossover does.

My goal isn't being right. My hope is that someone might learn something.
