Attaching Sintra to a frame...

Can you just glue it to a frame? What sort of glue will be able to hold it? I've never tested the weight so I don't really know what I'm looking at.

yes. an acrylic adhesive.

use a canvas drop cloth. place the sintra face down (side to be projected on) completely flat on the canvas drop cloth.

glue the frame down on the back of the sintra.

do not adhere center support joists to the sintra.

Why? I just took my Sintra screen down this past weekend and glued two center supports to prevent bowing in the center. (I used CA glue) just curious if this causes a future problem?

i wouldn't recommend doing so with 3mm... at all... better to use a heavy duty double sided carpet tape.

but 6mm is pretty forgiving... as long as you don't use a shrinking adhesive. in which case, a shrinking adhesive can create an indent (or line burn) similiar to a small bow where the adhesive and sintra meet.

if you're gonna do it... make sure you coat the entire center joists with a fine tooth tile trowel.

I just built some shoji type sliding doors with a pvc shoji paper that was attached with double sided tape. The technique for getting a smooth surface with a flexible material is to start at one end and roll it on. This requires you to set the frame flat and to flex the sintra a bit so you only contact one edge and then slowly roll it down onto the frame. If you try to just place the frame on top of the pvc I'm pretty sure you'll end up with flexing across the screen. That's my experience in putting togetther a large number of panels. The slower I rolled it on, making sure I was getting a good bond with the double sided tape, the less waves I had on the finished product. Oh, yeah. I recommend the double sided tape because the bond is quick with no waiting for the glue to set. Set the tape and only peel the second side as you work the sintra down the frame.
