End of model year specials on both, both look fantastic. Are the Panny's extra 6" worth $500?

Will be sitting about 12-13 feet away...

Thanks in advance.

haha, I feel the same way, until i see anyone elses TV. It's funny to think that 55 inches seemed big not too long ago.

U can get the 64d7000 with blu ray and 3d glasses for 2200 from pauls tv (at least last thurs u could). Id go with that. Take a look at both the d7/8000 and vt before u buy. Both r great both hav different pictures

I agree with other posters that you should get 64" or 65" and not compare to the 59/60" models.

I am in the exact same boat of deciding what to get in that size. I initially toyed with grabbing the VT30 at $2,397 but I've held off for a few reasons, which may matter to some and not at all to others...

1) 3D glasses for the Samsung are Bluetooth (which the next model of Panasonic will finally adopt) versus line-of-sight only IR for the 30 series Panasonics.

2) Despite the better transmission tech, Samsung 3D glasses can be bought for $20 each new, whereas Panasonic glasses typically run at least $100 each. Worse still, they are often hard to find and are being replaced with incompatible tech for the 2012 models so they will only get more scarce. The VT30 comes with one pair. So if, for example, you wanted enough glasses for a family of 4 to watch 3D you would pay $300+ for extra Panasonic glasses that require line-of-sight or $80 for 4 pair of Bluetooth glasses from Samsung.

3) The VT30 is much heavier than the Samsung, and thicker.

4) The VT30 does not have a swivel stand the Samung’s do. This matters in our household and some others.

5) Most reviews and shoot-outs have given the VT30 a very minor PQ edge over the Samsungs this year. The gap has shrunk in the last couple of years. That’s one of the reasons both CR and CNET give their preference to the 7000 despite acknowledging a slightly better picture for the Panasonic.

6) This is entirely subjective but I like to look of the Samsung – particularly the 7000 without the whacky spider stand – better than the Panasonic this year. It has a much smaller but attractive bezel. The new VT50 looks sweet (and the new Samsung’s seem to have gone in the wrong direction design-wise this year) but that’s another story…

For what it is worth, I currently own both Panasonic and Samsung plasmas. I have no particular passion or bias for either brand. They both have served me well.
