Official Samsung UNXXEH5000/UNXXEH5050 Owner's Thread - Page 9

I just purchased the UN50EH5000 for $699 during BF sale and was a little skeptical about it since I already own a Panasonic Plasma that I am very happy with (it has deep blacks and no motion blur, etc.). I am very pleased to report that the picture quality is great and I don't see any motion blur/lag in sports or fast action BUT that is only after I changed the default picture setup!

Since the standard mode (default) is really bad, you have to read this thread and get some decent picture settings. The trick is to turn OFF the LED motion plus and the Motion Lighting, and turn down sharpness. I don't know why Samsung would provide default options that actually degrade the picture (since they make motion flicker). TURN THEM OFF. Most people would probably just upgrade since they don't read forums BUT if you adjust the settings I think you can have the picture quality of a much more expensive panel.

I ended up with a "CH01" panel and quality seems good but then I haven't seen a "TS01" panel.

I can get it to shut off after 15 minutes with no signal, I can live with that, but it does not "wake" when the video feed is restored.

I asked Samsung Tech support via e-mail this question, and I received a response:

"The first problem is that this is not a monitor, it's a tv, we do have monitors this size. This is the reason the tv is not going into sleep mode with the computer. "

This answer was part of a larger response, with general polite corespondence (Thank you, we value you as a customer, sorry for any problems you may have, etc.)

Well, this was not good news!

As dissapointed as I am, I still am very happy with this as a computer monitor.

However, something inside me says that the code is there, already inside the monitor, it just needs to be turned on!

I am located in Italy. I wish to purchase a WII to attach to this television. From what I have been able to glean from various postings on the internet, the SCART is the way to do this. However, my SCART connection is being used for the Sky decoder box. Is there a way that anyone has used successfully to attach a WII to the Samsung TV?

BTW, paid euro 339 for the 40EH5000.

So I just picked one of these (UN40EH5000FXZA) up from BB as an open box for $340. They are ordering me a brand new remote since they could not find the one that was supposed to be with it.

Really liked the way this set looked at the store and will be hooking up later tonight when I get home from work.

I know there are lots of threads on the various Samsung panels and when I was at the store I couldn't remember which ones were problems and which weren't.

This set has an HS03 panel ... am I in for a world of problems with this one?

@GCS, I suggest you try the TV and using your current source ( Blue Ray, Netflix, etc) determine if the picture you are seeing seems fine to you. Some people like that panel( Sharp), some don't, it's just a matter of preference. So if you like Picture Quality and the sound coming from the TV for the price you paid, thats a keeper. Me personally, I look for good uniformity and PQ, I don't like to see flashlighting or clouding on my TV when I turn off the lights to watch a movie. And seriously, for $340 u got yourself a great deal.

Hooked it up last night and the picture looks great. I can't seem to get the color just right though but the image is bright, clear, and vibrant.

I will keep tweaking the color adjustments and see if I can dial it in better - hope so as we like the set quite a bit. It is HUGE in our bedroom compared to our old 32" Sammy.

I think the sound is just fine. Is it the best ever ... nope but its pretty good and way better than the Vizio I was trying out but returned this AM.

They had this model and a 6030 Sammy as well. The 6030 has a 120Hz and 3D of course but they wanted $150 more for it. I couldn't justify the extra dough just for 2 features I am not sold on. Although with the way this 5000 looks I was really thinking about getting the 6030 to replace my old 37" Toshiba in my office that looks like a$$ compared to this thing. Again its hard to justify another $150 premium for 120 and 3D. The 6030 has a TS01 panel.

They also had a nice looking 42" Insignia LED (120) that was $449 new and it looked almost as good as this Sammy.

And I agree I thought $350 + tax was pretty damn good. I also got a Roku 2 XS from him and he pricematched that down to $69 to match Microcenter.

I did a dumb thing recently with my newly purchased UN40EH5050 set -- I entered the service menu, and not being familiar with the navigation keys, inadvertently changed the type setting on the TV (by pressing the arrow buttons). Unfortunately, there is no confirmation prompt or cancel option in the menu. The changes just take hold.

I think I have reset it back to the correct type setting, but wanted to confirm here on the foum if anyone would be kind enough to help.

It is a TS02 model. So I am pretty sure based on that that it has a Samsung panel.

The type setting I chose (and believe it was originally set to) is: 40A1AF0D.

40 - 40"
A - Samsung
1 - 60Hz refresh rate (120 clear motion, not native120 - 6)
AF0 - same for all options
D - LED (not edge lit - E)

Of all the 40" menu options available, I don't think any of the others would be correct:

40A1AF0D (selected)
40A1AF0E
40A6AF0D
40A6AF0E
40R1AF0D
40R6AF0D
40P1AF0D
40P6AF0D
40H6AF0D

Have I got this correct?

Thanks in advance.

that's what the Samsung panel UN46EH5000 SM looks like
post #250 of 268
I'm a newbie to this forum, playing around with these impressive Samsung LED TVs. Right now, I'm looking for a couple of working screen replacement panels: I'm hoping to find two (working) UN40EH5000 series panels, one 50" 6000 panel, and one 55" 6000 panel. I'll post something in the classifieds, as well.

I've been repairing laptop computers for years, but my wife and I were still watching a 22" dinosaur TV. Our kids finally goaded me into shopping for a new set. Of course, being a cheapskate, after I did my research my choice was to find a broken Samsung series UNxx5000 or UNxx6000 to fix.

First off, I found two broken UN32EH5000 sets (32"); one with a good screen but a broken case and missing its base, the other one was a complete set with a broken screen. I was able to quickly combine the two and produce one working set with an absolutely stunning picture! Later, I found parts for the remaining set and got another wonderful TV working--and bequeathed that one to a friend, at cost.

As I said at the top of my post, my TV quest now extends to two 40" 5000 sets, one 50" 6000 set, and one 55" set. All of those need working screens, if there are any pulls or otherwise broken/incomplete sets around. I'm also open to a parts-swap if anybody has an interest.

i got this screen yesterday a long with a ES6100 model. The ES suffered from a lot of clouding. The 5050 on the other hand had virtually none. However both panels had stuck pixels! So im returning them both. What a shame frown.gif Anyways has anyone noticed on the 5050 that the colors are really dark? I had my brightness up to 50 and backlight to 10, with dynamic contrast turned off and contrast set to 94. And it seemed that a lot of things had lost detail. I was watching a TV show a noticed peoples blazers/jackets would look all black. I didnt notice that with the ES6100.

Have a UN39EH5003. Saw that there was a firmware update that just came out for it at the end of March. My set was on 1000 and I have now updated it to this new 1004.

But does anyone know what it did? There is no changelog or anything of the sort!
Can someone please post there picture setting for the Samsung UN39EH5003?
Thanks for the service menu code guys.

I just unboxed my 32EH5000 last night and borrowed some settings. It is an A panel Ver UU02 made in Mexico June 2013. Just wondering if there are any recent settings done on a similar set. I've borrowed some and made improvements but I think it could be better in terms of color and muddy blacks in the low range. I'll post my settings but in the meantime is there a USB file that can help set some things like greyscale? Much appreciated. It is not hooked to a DVD player.

I just bought a 32EH5000 build date of august 2013 I downloaded the latest firmware from Samsung (1012.33) during the update process it said current version 1020 new version 1012 do you wish to upgrade? I proceeded and it updated fine but did I accidently downgrade from 1020 to 1012? will the tv only accept newer firmwares and not older ones? (the firmware on samsungs site is from june 3 2012 and my tv is august 2013 is it possible my tv already had a newer firmware programmed in and Samsung doesn't have that version for download?)

Just bought myself the 46" UN46EH5000FXZA (not sure what the FXZA indicates), version UD03 (I'm not interested in going into the service menu, so that's all the info I have).

I'm extremely happy with this set! I 'upgraded' from a 46" Panasonic 720p Plasma set, I was unhappy with the image retention and uneven aging aspects of the Panasonic Plasma. I had been waiting for a full-array back lit LED at a reasonable price, and Black Friday weekend paid off. Picked up the set from Best Buy this past Sunday, and hung on the (pre-existing) wall mount within a matter of 5 minutes (with the help of a few friends).

I've calibrated the set for a dark room using the Disney WoW calibration disc. Here are my settings:
  • Mode: Standard
  • Backlight: 20
  • Contrast: 98
  • Brightness: 44
  • Sharpness: 10
  • Color: 38
  • Tint: G50/R50

Advanced Settings
  • Color Space: Auto
  • White Balance: (I didn't touch this, all values are at the default of 25)
  • Gamma = 0
  • Dynamic Contrast = Off
  • Black Tone = Off
  • Flesh Tone = 0
  • Motion Lighting = Off

Picture Options
  • Color Tone = Normal
  • Size = Screen Fit
  • Digital Noise Filter = Off
  • LED Motion Plus = Off

hi why did you return the 32eh5000? did it have input lag? please let me know
post #261 of 268

What's with you guys and low sharpness? I put mine at 5 and everything is kinda blurry...

I just bought my TV today. Went to best buy and asked for the UN40EH5000. They had one and the sticker on the box was missing, so I couldn't tell which panel it had. Turns out it's a Samsung!

Anyway, I have my sharpness at 55 right now and things look pretty sharp.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I just attached my Wii to test for picture quality (waiting for a PS4 and no cable on this TV). I just plugged it in and it works.

I bought the 32" version recently to use as a computer monitor (my 27 began to just feel too small).

I got it on Newegg for about 275.

I ended up with a Samsung panel.

It is quite awesome as a PC monitor, a big thing you gotta do is rename the HDMI input you're using for your computer to "PC" and it will automatically change a bunch of settings and look quite gorgeous.

Am curious what settings others are using in conjunction with renaming the input.

Cheers.

Hello All,

I just purchased a Samsung 50" UN50EH5000F TV

I would like to know what are the optimal calibration settings for regular TV and HD movie watching.

Thanks

Hi, just purchased a UN32EH5000FXZA from Best Buy. Every box had version: UU02. Even the boxes for other sizes/models of Samsung's had UU02 except for 2 or 3 out of around 30 + boxes. None had any of the codes mentioned earlier in this thread (TS0, HS0, AOU, CH0). Any idea which panel this is?

The display model was also a UU02 and the image quality was great - better than all the other 32s in the store IMO.

I am waiting for you to get an answer. My UN32EH5000FXZA was made in Mexico 12/14 and I can't find anything on the uu02 panel from Best Buy.  I am hoping it isn't a cheap panel for the holidays, can't get any info on line and Samsung must have changed the coding. The serial number codes are also not on any panel lottery lists. Where else can I find the maker without going into the service settings? The only other reference I found to UU02 was a reply from Samsung and what else are they going to say? A parts search also very vague without naming the maker. Thanks in advance. The picture is OK with some tweaking but could be better, especially with the lag. The setting for "120" was even worse.

woops made in mexico 12/2013

checked and my UU02 is a 32A6AF1D - so I guess its a Samsung panel.
