Official Samsung UNXXEH5000/UNXXEH5050 Owner's Thread - Page 9

I just purchased the UN50EH5000 for $699 during BF sale and was a little skeptical about it since I already own a Panasonic Plasma that I am very happy with (it has deep blacks and no motion blur, etc.). I am very pleased to report that the picture quality is great and I don't see any motion blur/lag in sports or fast action BUT that is only after I changed the default picture setup!

Since the standard mode (default) is really bad, you have to read this thread and get some decent picture settings. The trick is to turn OFF the LED motion plus and the Motion Lighting, and turn down sharpness. I don't know why Samsung would provide default options that actually degrade the picture (since they make motion flicker). TURN THEM OFF. Most people would probably just upgrade since they don't read forums BUT if you adjust the settings I think you can have the picture quality of a much more expensive panel.

I ended up with a "CH01" panel and quality seems good but then I haven't seen a "TS01" panel.

I can get it to shut off after 15 minutes with no signal, I can live with that, but it does not "wake" when the video feed is restored.

I asked Samsung Tech support via e-mail this question, and I received a response:

"The first problem is that this is not a monitor, it's a tv, we do have monitors this size. This is the reason the tv is not going into sleep mode with the computer. "

This answer was part of a larger response, with general polite corespondence (Thank you, we value you as a customer, sorry for any problems you may have, etc.)

Well, this was not good news!

As dissapointed as I am, I still am very happy with this as a computer monitor.

However, something inside me says that the code is there, already inside the monitor, it just needs to be turned on!

I am located in Italy. I wish to purchase a WII to attach to this television. From what I have been able to glean from various postings on the internet, the SCART is the way to do this. However, my SCART connection is being used for the Sky decoder box. Is there a way that anyone has used successfully to attach a WII to the Samsung TV?

BTW, paid euro 339 for the 40EH5000.

So I just picked one of these (UN40EH5000FXZA) up from BB as an open box for $340. They are ordering me a brand new remote since they could not find the one that was supposed to be with it.

Really liked the way this set looked at the store and will be hooking up later tonight when I get home from work.

I know there are lots of threads on the various Samsung panels and when I was at the store I couldn't remember which ones were problems and which weren't.

This set has an HS03 panel ... am I in for a world of problems with this one?

@GCS, I suggest you try the TV and using your current source ( Blue Ray, Netflix, etc) determine if the picture you are seeing seems fine to you. Some people like that panel( Sharp), some don't, it's just a matter of preference. So if you like Picture Quality and the sound coming from the TV for the price you paid, thats a keeper. Me personally, I look for good uniformity and PQ, I don't like to see flashlighting or clouding on my TV when I turn off the lights to watch a movie. And seriously, for $340 u got yourself a great deal.

Hooked it up last night and the picture looks great. I can't seem to get the color just right though but the image is bright, clear, and vibrant.

I will keep tweaking the color adjustments and see if I can dial it in better - hope so as we like the set quite a bit. It is HUGE in our bedroom compared to our old 32" Sammy.

I think the sound is just fine. Is it the best ever ... nope but its pretty good and way better than the Vizio I was trying out but returned this AM.

They had this model and a 6030 Sammy as well. The 6030 has a 120Hz and 3D of course but they wanted $150 more for it. I couldn't justify the extra dough just for 2 features I am not sold on. Although with the way this 5000 looks I was really thinking about getting the 6030 to replace my old 37" Toshiba in my office that looks like a$$ compared to this thing. Again its hard to justify another $150 premium for 120 and 3D. The 6030 has a TS01 panel.

They also had a nice looking 42" Insignia LED (120) that was $449 new and it looked almost as good as this Sammy.

And I agree I thought $350 + tax was pretty damn good. I also got a Roku 2 XS from him and he pricematched that down to $69 to match Microcenter.

I did a dumb thing recently with my newly purchased UN40EH5050 set -- I entered the service menu, and not being familiar with the navigation keys, inadvertently changed the type setting on the TV (by pressing the arrow buttons). Unfortunately, there is no confirmation prompt or cancel option in the menu. The changes just take hold.

I think I have reset it back to the correct type setting, but wanted to confirm here on the foum if anyone would be kind enough to help.

It is a TS02 model. So I am pretty sure based on that that it has a Samsung panel.

The type setting I chose (and believe it was originally set to) is: 40A1AF0D.

40 - 40"
A - Samsung
1 - 60Hz refresh rate (120 clear motion, not native120 - 6)
AF0 - same for all options
D - LED (not edge lit - E)

Of all the 40" menu options available, I don't think any of the others would be correct:

40A1AF0D (selected)
40A1AF0E
40A6AF0D
40A6AF0E
40R1AF0D
40R6AF0D
40P1AF0D
40P6AF0D
40H6AF0D

Have I got this correct?

Thanks in advance.

that's what the Samsung panel UN46EH5000 SM looks like
post #250 of 255
I'm a newbie to this forum, playing around with these impressive Samsung LED TVs. Right now, I'm looking for a couple of working screen replacement panels: I'm hoping to find two (working) UN40EH5000 series panels, one 50" 6000 panel, and one 55" 6000 panel. I'll post something in the classifieds, as well.

I've been repairing laptop computers for years, but my wife and I were still watching a 22" dinosaur TV. Our kids finally goaded me into shopping for a new set. Of course, being a cheapskate, after I did my research my choice was to find a broken Samsung series UNxx5000 or UNxx6000 to fix.

First off, I found two broken UN32EH5000 sets (32"); one with a good screen but a broken case and missing its base, the other one was a complete set with a broken screen. I was able to quickly combine the two and produce one working set with an absolutely stunning picture! Later, I found parts for the remaining set and got another wonderful TV working--and bequeathed that one to a friend, at cost.

As I said at the top of my post, my TV quest now extends to two 40" 5000 sets, one 50" 6000 set, and one 55" set. All of those need working screens, if there are any pulls or otherwise broken/incomplete sets around. I'm also open to a parts-swap if anybody has an interest.

i got this screen yesterday a long with a ES6100 model. The ES suffered from a lot of clouding. The 5050 on the other hand had virtually none. However both panels had stuck pixels! So im returning them both. What a shame frown.gif Anyways has anyone noticed on the 5050 that the colors are really dark? I had my brightness up to 50 and backlight to 10, with dynamic contrast turned off and contrast set to 94. And it seemed that a lot of things had lost detail. I was watching a TV show a noticed peoples blazers/jackets would look all black. I didnt notice that with the ES6100.

Have a UN39EH5003. Saw that there was a firmware update that just came out for it at the end of March. My set was on 1000 and I have now updated it to this new 1004.

But does anyone know what it did? There is no changelog or anything of the sort!
