Questions to GT430 before buying. Help needed..

Hi my currently setup is:

Lian Li PC-Q08 chassis.
CPU: Intel i3-2100 sandy bridge.
Motherboard: Asus Revision B3.
OS: WHS 2011.

I currently have it running WHS 2011 + XBMC which is working good except that Intels IGP is not ideal to use. 24p, bad deinterlacing etc.

I have found GT430 low profile, which looks promising, but I have some questions before buying:

1. Which GT430 low profile model should I choose? My priorities is low power consumption and low noise.

I have read that GV-N430OC-1G only uses 2,7W in idle. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/gra...0_4.html#sect0 Is that really true or is it to good to be true, because the Server/HTPC needs to be on 24/7 so power consumption is very important to me..

2. Will the GT430 fit in my Lian Li Chassis?

3. Can anyone with a GT430 measure/confirm the low power consumption?

Hope someone can help..

I bought the Sparkle GT430 which is fanless and works perfectly with MadVR, CUVID, ffdshow and Reclock. My first attempt was using an Asus GT430 but the fan noise became most intrusive in what was a almost silent HTPC build. The Sparkle is not easy to find though!

Why do you need a low profile card in that case?

I would recommend this card. I have one and am waiting to install it in a new build.

Here is another card that was used in that case.

I am pretty sure you don't need a low profile card...

Hi Assassin. Looks promosing. Can I get you to measure the power consumption which is my main concern?
I also read someone mentioning macroblocking on GT430. Have you read about that?

I believe the reference design is 49w. The card recommended by assasin doesn't have a fan so less noise and less of a draw. You aren't going to find a card that draws 2.7w as indicated in your first post.

I changed out my video card last week for my XBMC PC. I went with the Sapphire Radeon HD6450. It comes with backplates for low profile installs and works perfectly with XBMC including HD audio. It is a highly recommended card on the XBMC forums. I play mostly bluray mkv 1080P files and this card plays them perfectly.

For the low profile install you remove the VGA port and then use the other backplate which is included.

Newegg has a $10 rebate deal on the 6450. Brings the price down to $35 with free shipping and it's a fanless card.

I found a site with wattage for 6450.

That comparison was done without actual testing and the 6450 quoted was a rare one with DDR5 not the more common DDR3. So YMMV.

There is little difference in power consumption at idle and video playback between 6450, 6570 and 6670. 6570 is the best choice in performance/price, in particular if madVR is integrated in XBMC (or if you use an external player supporting madVR). Performance-wise (how powerful shader engine is)

HD 6570 DDR3-1800 > GT 430 DDR3-1600 (avoid DDR3-1200) >> HD 6450 GDDR5 > HD 6450 DDR3-1333 > GT 520 DDR3-1600

I have two Asus GT 430's one DDR2 one DDR3 both work fine but they are wide and the fan fins hang out and for this case I would pass as it will cover the other available slot. Cannot give you a power use number.

You can see a big difference between DDR2 and DDR3 when playing back 1080i60 videos with CUVID + madVR. If not interested in it, you won't notice a difference...
