OK. Got a list. Which one is the best for the money?

Again, room can be sealed 13x14x9.

Budget <$1000

Mostly movies, TV and gaming. Some music from jazz to blues to heavy metal and hard rock.

These prices are with shipping to Hawaii in order of least to most expensive.

Cadence 12"- $512
Cadence 15"- $650
Rythmik FV12- $675
Epik Legend $730
VTF-2 MK4 $780
RSL (Rogers Sound Labs) Speedwoofer 10 $875 (thought I'd throw that in since the S&V review was pretty good and it has a remote!
2 STF-2- $890
VTF-3 MK4- $955

Should probably add the SVS PC12-NSD at somewhere near the VTF-3 MK4 price of about $1000.

There are lesser choices that I don't have to pay shipping on from Crutchfield and Amazon like the Bic f12 and Polk 505, numerous Klipsch and Def Tech and Velodyne models.

Thanks again for the help. I really have only one chance to get it right with the ID stuff.

It would be a toss up between SVS PC12-NSD and the VTF-3 MK4. Your room is under 2000cf sealed and should do well with one sub. Since you don't buy these every day, I would buy the best very close or over budget since you'll be paying a premium shipping these. I am also tempted to recommend the Rythmik and Legend as a close second

They quoted me a little over $200 to ship the SB12-NSD that weighs only 35 lbs.

The PC12 weighs almost double. That's the reason I never even bothered to get an actual quote. I should though.

You will not hear it but you can feel it and of late with DTS-Master their seems to be a lot of content depending on the movie U-571 and Tron come to mind.

There may be "ocean freight service", which logically may make Hsu cheaper, because they're based in CA. I would get the most expensive HSU or SVS (VTF-15H or even PB12+), you'll be set once and for all.

SVS quote for the PC12- $300 via FedEx. Yikes! $130 for USPS surface, which to Hawaii can take as long as 8 weeks.

I don't think HSU is set up to ship via a freight service. Typically you need to deliver the product to the dock for shipping. So that's out.

As for the VTF-15 I'm thinking that it just "might" be a little physically larger than I want.

Is there or would there be that much difference between the VTF-2 and VTF-3 in my rather small room? Price difference is nearly $200.

The VTF-3 goes deeper and has more headroom it would definitely be worth the extra cash remember on a better sub you can always adjust it down the opposite is not true.

All the Pro THX movie mastering houses I've seen pictures of lack the ability to get much below 25Hz, let alone below 20Hz. I have my doubts whether the original artists really intended the end user to need or even want to produce bass under 25Hz. It's my opinion if you happen to accidentally find content below 20Hz in the soundtrack, it's an accident, not intentional because during the mixing and mastering stages they very likely didn't even hear/feel the content they mixed. IMO, all soundtracks should lowpass @ 20Hz or even 25Hz.

Interesting if indeed true. Concentrating on SPL above 20hz makes things less expensive generally.

it may not be the case for Blu-ray authored disc since they will be different from what
the movie theaters have since they probably can't do bass much below 40Hz or it sure seems that way compared to my home.

as for going to Hawaii, have you thought about a home built DIY project?
as for the shipping you could have the baddest box built by a local carpenter to your spec.
buy a high end speaker and the most powerful amp you need to drive it.
I would guess you would have a better sub than you could buy and ship.
that way you can choose the frequencies the speaker will cover and the power you want to drive it.
it is just a option to look at.......
