Pro reviews are in, and it's looking good. Anyone here have anything to report?

Watched it some 10 days ago (don't ask how). The BD looks really good. If you love the movie, go for it!

Didn't get to watch it from start to finish yet, Holy Grail got the family vote last night, but I did check out several scenes, including the dark scenes on the roof, and it looks fantastic. Worthy upgrade.

I bought the upgrade yesterday but have not watched. The wife (a devout Hitchcockian) refused without her ability to view. Will watch this weekend.

I started watching last night and the PQ is breathtaking. It is most definitely worth the upgrade for Hitchcock fans!!!!

VistaVision is a perfect match to Blu-ray, and this is no exception.

TCAT looks very good. It is not quite as good as White Christmas, but that one got the royal treatment I suspect.

A number of scenes were originally grainy and remain so, but when it is good, it is great. Cary Grant's famous "purple shirt" that always creates a moire is still there, but looks almost perfect this time. Cinematography Oscar.

The sound is also quite good. VV was never into sound, but this has obviously been made from the original magnetic recordings.

I see quite a bit of aliasing on that shirt, but it's only distracting once or twice. The rest of the time you have to look for it.

Absolutely fantastic PQ! I would say Tier 0 for sure, but some nitpickers will dock a point for the inevitable moire effect on Cary Grant's shirt in the beginning scene's. Other than that issue, I think the PQ is breathtakingly good!.

The reason it's not as good as either Ten Commandments or White Christmas is simple: This transfer was created several years ago for the previous DVD release and was scanned, as I understand it, at 2K and prepared with the tools available at that time, whereas TC and WC were scanned at a much higher resolution and had their work done at that higher resolution. While To Catch a Thief looks mostly great, it could, in fact, look even better had they gone back and done a fresh transfer.

Watched this the other day before finding this thread and while it's a big improvement over the remastered DVD, I'd hoped it was up to WC standards, better actually. I'd hoped that by now, technology would have long since been able to restore this and and few other films I enjoyed so much at the cinema in my youth to be able to recreate the experience, but apparently only the soundtrack can be.
