How to connect HTPC to TV?

I bought the ASUS P8H67-M EVO to build my HTPC. This MB has HDMI and DP port, i plan to use HDMI connect to my Receiver to play lossless music, then how can I connect DP port to my TV since my TV only got HDMI input?

Why not finish the chain and connect the receiver to the TV using HDMI? How to you plan on playing musing with the HPTC without a display to see what you are doing?

That's it... All your HDMI's (BRP, HTPC, Cable/Sat, etc) should go to the AVR and then only one from there to the HDTV.

when I play lossless music, I don't need to display it on TV, but when I watch some non HD video, I need the HTPC connect directly to my TV. Maybe what I need is a DP to HDMI cable.

Is there such a thing? I have never heard of an AVR with HDMI in but no HDMI out.

The one caveat is some of the older and/or lower end AVR's act simply as a switch as far as HDMI goes and cant use the audio as it passes through. If by chance it's one of those, then you can use the TV OR the AVR as the central point for video as you will need extra wires for audio anyways. Assuming your AVR can use audio as it passes through like most do these days, def use the AVR as the central point. Only time it may potentially be less then ideal is for video gaming, in which case some receivers can add a bit of lag to the video chain, making it more ideal to send hdmi straight to the tv from the ps3/360.

Your board has DP, DVI & HDMI ports; all three ports carry the same HD video signal and more than likely, will only allow you to use one connection at a time.

The only way to know for certain is to try it out and see if it works.

What you need is a DP-to-HDMI female adapter. This way you can use any HDMI cable with it. However, you may or may not get audio through the DP. Check your MB manual for that.

Why not use the AVR for your audio when you play non-HD video? What's wrong with that?

Maybe I'm missing something, but you probably need the display to start playing the music from the HTPC; I realize that are phone apps and other stuff that can be used to access music stored on the PC.

Another solution, leave the TV off when playing music. The power of the power button.

Why?

HTPC---hdmi--->AVR----hdmi---->HDTV

It's just another component for your AVR to switch and extract audio.
