Auto log-off question

I haven't posted on this forum in some time, but I have been lurking/reading quite a bit lately.

That being said, I seem to be getting automatically logged off in quite a short time span. Is this normal?

If so, what is the time span that a member is allowed to be logged on with no apparent activity?

The main reason I ask is that I am using the dark skin for viewing this forum, as it is much easier on my eyes and doesn't bother others in the room. But when I'm automatically logged off and have to log back in, it temporarily flashes the much brighter default screen.

Also, does actual typing of a post register as activity? If not, that is another reason why this would be so annoying, as I am a very slow typer, and would lose quite a bit of work if auto logged off.

Thanks for your time...

If you check the "Remember Me" box when signing in, and your browser is functioning correctly, you never need to manually log in again.

Thanks for the quick response Mike. I was aware of the 'remember me' function, but that wasn't really what I was inquiring about, (although equally useful info).

What I'm talking about is that if I am not 'active' on the forums ie; clicking on different threads etc. The forum software seems to automatically log me off.

Is that a normal function of the forum software? If so, Id like to know how long it takes to deem a member 'inactive' therefore auto-logging them off.

I know, I know... Can't I take my silly question down the hall?

Just kidding, any information regarding these questions would be greatly appreciated...again.

The software will see you as "offline" after about 20 minutes of not loading a new page.

it might be better if the logoff delay was made longer than 20 mins (why not 30 or 40 mins?).
it has happened to me a few times that when i was finished writing a post, i click "send" and then i find out i'm logged off.
i'm not sure, but i think i remember that i lost my text when that happened.

Don't mistake an inactive status with being logged out. As I said above, if you check the remember me box at login and your browser handles the cookies correctly, you will not be logged out unless you do it manually. I haven't had to ever manually log into AVS unless I intentionally hit the logout link for some reason.
