Epson 5010 or 6010?

Thread Starter
I thought I had everything decided and then my local HTS through a wrench in things. They have a deal going with the Epson 6010 that includes: 1. Chief Ceiling Projector Mount, Spare Projector Lamp, Two pair of 3D active glasses, and a Cable Cover.
The Epson 5010 doesn't come with the extras. The price difference is $800, which is not a deal breaker, but money is money.
Which would you choose and why? Right now I am leaning toward the 6010, but I am still not 100% decided.
My home theater is going to consist of the following:
16' x 18' with 9' ceiling and 10' tray ceiling
Focal Chorus 726 V towers
Focal Chorus 700 CC center
Focal Chorus 700 Surround
Pioneer Elite VSX-32
Emotiva XPA-5
LG BD690 Blue Ray

Did you get that price from a dealer?
Most have been lucky enough to get the 6010 about $400 more than the 5010, which is worth the price increase for glasses, extra bulb and additional year of warranty.
Not sure if I'd pay $800 more over a 5010.

I'm somewhat in a similar boat. I was all set for the 5010 but after reading some in-depth reviews, it seems that 3D performance is slightly better with 6010.

Can I ask where you can get the 6010 for about $400 more? Most that i've been able to see is about $800 more ... like OP. (PM me if needed).

Thanks!

I own a 5010 but members here have posted that they got their 6010 for about $400 more than a 5010.

Not sure about the 6010 being any better than the 5010 in 3D.
The 6010 will have better out of the box color in THX mode.

*If you search, there are out of state dealers that will ship a 6010.

There's actually a lot of dealers in the Seattle, WA area that sell the Epson 6010 ... I've only seen prices from a couple & they were defnitely $800 ~ $1000 more then 5010, which could potentially be a deal-killer for me.

I guess I need to either create a thread or jump into owner's threads to find out more about teh differences & benefits.

Also curious about the $400 difference ... at that difference I would most likely go with 6010.

Thanks.

Well if you do the math and if you need the mount, the 6010 is worth it.

If you don't need the mount I think it is a close call.

Gotta love my black 6010 and MAN the cable cover really helps clean up the looks. Since I needed a mount, for me the 6010 made sense.

$200 glasses
$200 mount (i think this is close)
$275 bulb
$75 extra year warranty
$40 cable cover
THX Color PRICELESS
BLACK PRICELESS

:-)

Hi Guys I am desperately after one of those cable covers in white. Do you know where I could order one online. I am in Australia and nowhere has them. Not even Epson!

Thanks,

paul

Let me ask you a Question ... Is there any difference at all in the PICTURE QUALITY between 5010 & 6010 ... and I'm not talking about "Out-of-the-box" ... i'm talking about after configuration & everything? So in other words ... the "THX Color" that you're talking about; and also the THX 3D that I read in a review - is that something that you "just can't" get on 5010 or is that something that you can get on 5010 after tweaking settings?

Thanks.

As per my other post...yes the ultimate quality should be the same in both. You will just have to calibrate the 5010 a bunch more to get the out of the box 6010 THX mode.

Thanks man - I appreciate it. My budget will quite honestly only allow 5010, but I wanted to make sure I'm not loosing picture quality; if I could get the 6010 for around $300 ~ $400 more then the 5010, I'd go for it. But so far I'm finding the prices on 6010 almost $800 ~ $1000 more then 5010.

As long as PQ/3D can be achieved on 5010, that's fine. I don't need it out of the box. I'll calibrate.
