Tablet with HTPC

Can't be done.

I can use my GTab 10.1's DLNA app (AllShare) or my Samsung Android phone to control media playback on my PC or XBox 360.

I sometimes use my Kindle Fire with Splashtop to control my PC. It's a remote desktop application, but works pretty well.

I also use my Windows phone to navigate my PC. Also works well, has a "view desktop" function, but I usually don't use this.

Since Splashtop is basically a remote desktop, you can control anything on your HTPC. Any programs should work. It's just an extension of your PC's screen really. Though it does pass through audio to the Kindle. This app can be used on any Android device, I think.

For my phone, I'm using PC Remote. Which is more of a remote than a remote desktop. Sure you can view the desktop, but it's on a 4" screen and tough to deal with. It does have a cool mouse feature that lets you use the phone as a mouse.

Anyways, I do believe there are dedicated Media Center controls on the PC Remote Windows phone app. I've never used it before, as I don't use WMC, but I can test it out tonight and let you know how it handles.

i have recently been using splashtop with my hp touchpad. works great. i can watch and control windows media center. i can even watch my blu ray iso files with sound via power dvd and with my new router, its pretty smoth and the resolution is very good. The app even works when you are away from your home network but it can be a bit laggy and is very dependant on the wifi source. the app is only $4.99

I have used Splashtop a lot myself and it works great! Keep in mind that it only shows and allows you to control another desktop remotely. With WMC it doesn't work in full screen, so you will need to shirink the screen and then drag it.

Media Browser has a remote control web add-on, it doesn't duplicate the screen but u can use it as a remote control, or have the add-on play content on the tablet or any device that supports html5. The web add-on nice, you can browse the movies on the tablet. Still beta stage but has worked fine for me. I like to freak out my "apple" friends with it :-)
They also have android app, but have not tested that.

I currently have installed Android VNC on my phone and I find it a mite too slow for my needs. I've tried Teamviewer as well as Pocket Cloud. Still need something quicker. Can you comment on Splashtop as compared to the above?

If you use XBMC as your HTPC media player, you can use either (1) XBMC's built-in web client (assuming your tablet is connected to your wifi; or your HTPC machine is routed on the network - NAT); or (2) XBMC Commander, a mobile app: http://xbmc-commander.com/page6/page6.html .

Vidabox often bundles other software in their offering... so this might actually be something that that you can get standalone rather than buying a Vidabox.

Is there any Ipad App to control WMC ,MediaBrowser , Mpc-Hc + PVD12 or TMT5 as external players?

IMO the best WMC control app for android is Media Center Control. It doesn't display video output, but it controls WMC better than any others that I've tried. The user interface is excellent. It even displays movie metadata if you have Media Browser and TV logos if you have MyChannelLogos.

Splashtop is much quicker than VNC, a little quicker than Teamviewer. I can watch video over Splashtop - not perfect but acceptable.

I'm using XBMC with an iPad app called Constellation. It's amazing how well it works for a free app.

If you're willing to switch media players, XBMC has an application called Commander that is suppose to by really nice. I personally use Plex Media Center (an XBMC offshoot) which has a fantastic app that also does this. The great part is that when you select a movie, you can have it play on the TV or the iPad itself!

I believe the newest version of XBMC, Eden, supports HD audio.

EDIT: Does it? I've read some conflicting information on this. I just checked on my own system and it doesn't seem to bitstream at least. I'm not exact sure what it does with the HD tract. My receiver just says PCM.

XBMC does support HD audio but not the stock build. One of the devs has a branch build that is kept very current. Read more here:

Hi i just wondered if there had been any advancements on this topic as i also use mediabrowser and am looked to use a tablet as the "remote", i could see it coming really in handy for the web browsing i do on my htpc.

i still use splashtop, which works pretty good. I just wish it worked with full screen mode with windows media center...
