Okay its simple. Im using windows media player to steam my movies to my home theater system. I have all the codecs needed to play mkv and mp4 files in wmp. But for whatever reason they wont show up on my home theater system. Is it possible to stream these files or not?

codecs (directshow filters) allow windows based pc's to play audio/video.

To stream an mkv or mp4 (push the mkv or mp4 to the device for decoding),
the device receiving the stream would need to be able to decode the signal being sent to it.
I see nothing in your device specs that indicate it can decode these files.

If you were to play the files on the PC and send the decoded signal to the device via the digital media port,
it would probably pass that signal on to the TV over hdmi for playback.

What if i use my PS3?

what you are looking for is a streamer... fortunately AVS has a sub forum just for streamers & such

but fwiw, general consensus is sony sucks, and PS3 is kind of a crap streamer...
best is probably dune... happy low $$$ is probably something like a WDTV or ATV3...

note the above is somewhat way over simplified... post what you are trying to do over in the streamer sub-forum and you will get some better options...
