Logitech Harmony 800 QWERTY - Page 2

The following link says you need the Harmony adapter for the PS3 to control Bluetooth wireless devices (via IR). So it doesn't look like the 800 will have Bluetooth.

http://mediapool.getthespec.com/medi...xIw%3D%3D&v=PD

The following quote suggests that 800 will have Harmony Link incorporated which would mean WiFi capabilities but I don't see any mention in the brochure link above.

Logitech Unifying Receiver operates on 2.4 but isn't Bluetooth or WiFi. My guess is the 800 remote will have IR and Logitech Unifying Reciever capabilities only. Maybe there will be an wireless IR extender blaster you can purchase seperately. Logitech could also release more versions of remotes that have addition capabilities like BlueTooth and Wifi.

It's not likely going to be bluetooth I think he was just saying it's going to be like that. It is likely going to use the unified receiver Logitech already uses for their keyboard, mice, etc (which is linked above) it operates on wireless.

So you will be able use it like a standard IR remote and then have the receiver plugged into your HTPC and when you pull out the keyboard you can use it and the mouse on your PC.

Yeah, looks that way. I might as well stop waiting then, my HTPC is on the other side of a wall, with an IR extender used to send the IR signal to it. I will be at least 30 feet away from the HTPC.

Looked good, too. Oh well.

The best thing to do for a new Harmony product is to lower your expectations.

Really? What brand would you suggest?

Harmony may work, just don't expect it to bring all the bells and whistles everyone hopes for. More than likely it will have one less bell and a different whistle than the old models.

The Harmony 800 might still be useful if you plug the Logitech Unifying Receiver into your HTPC via a usb connection. You would be able to send keyboard and mouse wireless commands from the Harmony 800 to your HTPC even if it 30 feet away located on the other side of a wall.

Really? Has this been tested?

I have never had one, so any bells and whistles are all new to me. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a remote which is as good as the old Microsoft Windows Remote for ease of operating a Windows HTPC.

My keyboard and mouse work fine through the wall 20 feet away no problems. So assuming this remote uses the same unified receiver I have, which it will, it will work fine. The IR commands will still work like your current set up and the mouse/keyboard will work wireless.

At the end of the day I do hope Logitech makes a few changes to this as it could be an incredible remote...a larger screen is needed get rid of the silly arrows and make changing pages like a phone (swipe left and right) thus allowing a larger screen, add the dedicated red/green/yellow/blue buttons back (like the 900) and make sure sequences are back (like my current Harmony One) and they will have a winner on their hands

Good to know. The older style Logitech Bluetooth mice and keyboards did not reliably work past 10 feet without a wall.

MobileMouse app or similar is far better than any remote or wireless keyboard/mouse I've ever used. And it's only $2.

Any idea when this new remote comes out? I've been reading rumors about it for a good 3-4 months now.

This vendor has a release date of Aug 6th. I don't think it means too much because they keep moving the date forward. I am surprise it is taking so long becausing integrating the already existing Logitech unifying receiver into a Harmony doesn't seem that complicated. Maybe Logitech is reconsidering some of the design choices which could be a postive.

That is what I think is happening, the concept is great and with a few tweaks I mentioned earlier in this thread Logitech will have a BIG winner on their hands.
Bumping thread... anyone else still anxiously waiting for this? Seems the speculated dates have all come and gone without a peep from Logitech even through rumor mill...

There's nothing else I have found other than this remote that will work keyboard/mouse, and all home theater equipment as a regular sized remote control. Hard to believe...

I hope I'm wrong but it looks like this remote could have been binned.

Doing a Google shopping search (UK) a month ago yielded 6 or 7 retailers awaiting stock. Ominously they've now all disappeared.
Pretty sure you're right. Logitech's financials are really hurting right now and who knows what the future may (or may not) hold for the Harmony line. It's telling that there have really been no updates to the line for three years now, at least not to the flagship models. At CES back in January they said new Harmony remotes would be coming soon, but now it's 9 months later and nothing. Too bad.

"Harmony Touch" remote just popped up at a Best Buy without any real announcement (yet). Not even on the Logitech site yet. Someone here bought one and posted some photos.

I personally prefer some real buttons on my remote for truly using it by "touch", their version of "touch" requires you to look at the remote to hit correct buttons without hitting other ones.

There was also a reference to a new "Harmony Plus" remote on a yanked blog post that the Engadget article mentions, maybe that will be an update to the Harmony One? I can only hope.

crazy... I finally broke down and got some cheap $25 remote. 2 days later this shows up unannounced. Figures.... but I still don't see traditional numbers to change channels which is odd. Also there's no keyboard pullout like the qwerty one. So may not be something I'd want anyway for $250, I'd be better off with my $25 remote that can turn on/off tv, amp, pc, control xbmc/wmc, and then pickup my lenovo thing for mouse/keyboard.

This is basically $225 more for ... a lcd touch screen.

Harmony Touch? Interesting . . . cool.gif

Which cheap remote is that? I bought the harmony touch, and I don't think it works very well for my htpc setup. The delay in between commands, the lack of physical skip foward and back buttons, the placement of the play/pause buttons, and the lack of mouse support -- it all adds up to an incomplete experience.

I'd love to give this 800 qwerty a try if it ever came out, but I need something as a stop gap until then.

Buttons are small, tight layout, but it works very well with both XBMC, and Windows Media Center. Most everything works in XBMC w/o hassle, and any specific custom stuff can be achieved with EventGhost.

I read the reviews, and people say that it doesn't include the ability to learn more devices, so you are stuck with just the WMC commands. How do you get it to control your av receiver and tv power?
A couple of ways... my entire equipment center is IP enabled which is why this works for me. Without IP control, I'd be SOL and need multiple remotes.

Receiver: Onkyo ISCP plugin supported in EventGhost so I can control the volume and power of my receiver, including turning on the zone2 trigger to fire up my Emotiva amp. I can also send commands to turn it all off.

TV: Sharp Elite, this has IP control capabilities, and i wrote a python script to send the 8 char ASCII command to turn ON or put to standby.

When all my gear is in standby... I just press the Power button on the remote, and wait 5 seconds for it to resume from sleep. Then I press the bottom most tiny green button which sends all commands to the network devices to turn on TV, Receiver, and AMP.

Turning it all off is done similarly, but through a custom GUI app I put together in AutoIT which I assign to the big green button. This app allows me to select XBMC, Windows Media Center, or power off all my gear.

Whoa whoa whoa. How do you have an unreleased 800 qwerty? And why are you selling it? Do you not like it? Is there a problem with it? Give us a review!
Don't have time right now to do a review. I absolutely love it but have too many toys and bills to pay.
Just tell us when and how you got it. Is it supported with myharmony.com, or traditional software?
