Hello, I purchased this TV from HHGreg. I have a 50 inch Panasonic and i must say this LG blows away the Panasonic. Be very careful watching letterbox movies. Make sure you put on the orbiter in order not to have IR (image burn) The only thing i don't like is my old 3d glasses will not work on this TV, you must buy the AG-s350 3d glasses. The HD on this is beyond anything i have ever seen. ITS A MUST BUY.

Hello all

PLEASE HELP ! ! !

l have the new PM606700 and it came out of the box with version - 3.00.12
I also (like few here) have this "Soap Opera Effect" – which you can remedy by changing the picture setting to "Game Mode".
However The game mode is not recommended for movies at all as it shuts down some of the processor modes....

I was told I should set the "Trumotion" into -OFF and it will solve the issue but I did try it and it did not help me.
I think it's A Softwere issue which I need to upgrade but still I found out that my firmware is up to date for my country althow there is A newer firmware 03.01.12
For some reson I can't upgrade my software no matter what I do...I did download it to external disk and I did open new folder to put it named – LG_DTV- and I extract the new software file to that folder – just like LG software upgrade guide said to do.
But when I put the usb drive in the plasma it does open the folder but no file inside....

I am not sure it will solve the problem but I must try so Can anybody help me with upgrading the software ?

I can't see movies with this Soap Opera Effect... its makung me crazy ....

just chatted with LG...they said SOME have been fixed by going into settings and doing the "INITIAL SETTING" over again. If you do the right one it will act like it did the first time you turned the tv on. it did not fix mine but he said it has some.

I've tried this already as well with no success. Unfortunately it does not restore the factory firmware, just the user configurable settings.

Am I the only one who hasn't had a problem with 3.00.29? My picture quality still is excellent after the update. It would be interesting if there are other factors which cause some sets to have problems. I did indeed turn off future automatic updates just in case. Has anyone been told by LG or their service reps if it was all televisions affected or just some?

Interesting. Are you able to toggle the soap opera effect on and off by turning on and off the True Motion feature? If all is working correctly, you should be able to create the SOE on demand.

Hmm - I tried changing the trumotion settings and noticed no difference in picture quality. My picture looks great but I am curious and excuse me for my ignorance but exactly what should be seeing if there is a problem or SOE. Even my wife agrees the picture looks great but everyone has me wondering am I missing something. And if changing Trumotion settings does not cause a discernible change in picture quality does this warrant a service call? Thanks.

I just had the tech come out and replace the mainboard, which thankfully fixed the issue. The problem is definitely with the 3.0.0.29 firmware. I had waited for over 2 months for the firmware update and still nothing, so I setup an appointment with the LG techs. This is the only fix so far. One note, you have to get your unit serviced now before the replacement mainboards all come with the 3.0.0.29 firmware. The LG tech had a 3.0.0.12 in his truck. This was not a refurb board either, as the sets are so new they cannot make a refurb mainboard.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that I also got 3.0.0.12. Techs came to my house today to do the board replacement after they came and confirmed the SOE issue last week. Whew. The techs came out and replaced my main board and I am now back to 3.0.0.12 and SOE is now eliminated in all modes when TruMotion is turned off! I'm now looking forward to recalibrating it and enjoying more than game mode.

BTW, I noticed I now get an error when I try to connect to Vudu (something about not being authorized and to call manufacturer). Anyone else who go the board replaced seen this? I'll probably try calling LG and/or Vudu in the next couple of days, but figured I'd ask just in case.

Strange, my new version is 04.00.12. Different than yours. Either way, TruMotion is finally off.

I have an LG tech coming within the next 2 hours and Ill try to get any useful info i can out of him about these models. I was going to have him replace the mainboard but of course yesterday we got the firmware .....but since he is coming out anyway ill pick his brain. LG still tells me my tv doesnt have trumotion and they dont know how i have a menu option for it and can toggle it on/off. In their defense, the manual, online specs, advertising etc never mention trumotion ONCE for this tv. Thats what i really want to run by the tech

tech called to say he would be here in 30 minutes and i told him to not come out as problem is fixed with firmware. We talked a bit and he said he would get in touch with engineering to let them know. The problem is in marketing....they never mentioned this tv has TruMotion so none of support thinks it does. He had never worked on the 9700 so was unaware of any good settings...i forgot to ask about others.

This update also added a new 3D menu option, I didnt notice it doing anything though. However what it did improve is if I ever used the manual 3D option I generally had to keep the depth at level 10 or lower to not get screen tearing or glitching. i can now turn it to 20 with no issues and it looks good.

I watched Tron legacy last night on cable after the update with the 2D to 3D option and it was nice.

So, any of you out there who had the main board replaced have the issue I mentioned above with Vudu? I called LG and they had me try to reset a couple of things (which I had already done) and it did not help. They said there was something the tech should have done when he changed the board and set up another service call. A few hour later, the tech called and we discussed the issue. He said there is nothing he can "adjust" in that regard and that LG was sending him out to replace the main board again. I'm e-mailing Vudu to see if they can fix it on their end, but was curious if everything was working for the others who swapped boards. Thanks for the help.

BTW, also updated to 4.0.0.12 and all seems to still be working well (except for Vudu).

Said i would just take the TV back. They sent out a technician. Nice little Indian man. I sat there and watched him try his hardest to adjust user settings to make it go away and he said he thought it looked better. I wasnt convinced. I told him despite his hard work i was still really unhappy with the picture. I showed him every movie and TV show looked like a soap opera. And that his settings made certain movements look high speed. It was horrible. Its up to the service technician to make the call about the fix. If you tell your technician your unhappy with LG, and are demanding a new set he or she will replace the main board. They replaced the main board and it works like normal again. It asks me a couple times a week if i want to update my firmware. But i deny it. I love the set. But its a shame they havnt fixed a very real problem thats affecting quite a few of us. Its not the settings. After the update tru motion will show that its off. But every channel will be in tru motion. Or as we like to call it the Soap Opera Effect. If your under warranty get on it to LG. They will fix it. They did mine.

We picked up our 60PM6700 on Saturday and as soon as I hooked it up, I noticed everything had the "soap opera effect". Even put in the Lord of the Rings Extended Blu-Ray. Same thing. Was crazy.

Updated the firmware on Sunday to the latest version. Problem disappeared.

So not sure what to say at this point; Firmware did it for me.

Perhaps I have a newer television since I just picked it up?
