Best buy warranty or not?

I just picked up the samsung pn59d8000 for the hubby, I got a great price & he is in love. One thing we are waffling on is whether we should get the warranty Best Buy sells. We never did it with our 3 other plasmas we have but this is our largest & most advanced of the tv's. From my reading the peeling and dead pixels seem pretty common, which is making me think I should get the warranty.

Advice?

You could look into Square Trade's warranties as well. Costco sells a 3 year plan starting at the end of the manufacturer's warranty. It would be $100 for your particular tv since I'm sure it was over $1k.

I got the 2 year one for my Panny Plasma. Glad I did b/c the buzzing has slowly gotten louder and louder so I'll probly have to get it exchanged soon since its already past the Panny warranty.

I got the tv for a bit under $2k. Didn't know Costco had a plan that allows warranty purchase even if the device wasn't purchased from them. I will look into it if that cheap.

Mine was the same way for the first 8 months.

I look at it this way if your spending close to 2k on something...a warranty is a good idea.

Nearly a quarter the price of the TV? No way. However getting it from square trade or elsewhere at around $100-150 would be reasonable.

Every Tv has it's own set of issues! Whatever warranty you do get, make sure it starts at the end of the 1 year factory warranty that comes with the TV. Have fun and great purchase!

I will def look into warranty options, thanks for the info. So far tv is awesome. We've spent all morninging fine tuning the settings of all our components to our preferences.

You can get the details on Costco's site. I went with their plan for the cheapy 37" lcd we got for our son's room....at $30 I couldn't pass it up.

i doubt anyone is gonna think a buzzing is worthy of a warranty replacement on a plasma.

i have been battling samsung 59 d550 since i mounted this tv. been repaired 3 time- power supply and two panels- they have finally agreed to replace or refund .most likely a refund because chances of getting a non-buzzer is a crapshoot

I don't know. For me, a tv is a big purchase that I don't want to have any problems with for at least 5 years or longer. The LG is a major focus in our family so an extended warranty is a worthwhile insurance policy for us. We got a good deal thru LG so I'm happy.

I think it will be better to get a extended warranty directly from Samsung,than from best buy, it will be more money but sure they will take better business than best buy.I recommend extended warranty directly from the brands.With best buy you can end up if they don't carry the tv anymore with a cheap tv brand that doesn't worth the same price that you paid. I've been seen many bad situations with best buy warranty's.

American Express doubles manufacturers warranties, I believe. I made a claim a few years back and they were very easy to deal with. 2 year warranty on a TV ain't bad.

If you purchased using a VISA, u get another 1 year for FREE.
Plus and additional 4 years for $137.99 (quote for my $1500 HDTV)

I say yes to the Best Buy. I have used mine several times on multiple things. The Square trade warranty is an extension of the manufactures warranty. It states not all problems are covered. Also it states that if the cost of repair(s) is equal to the value of the TV it is considered to be fulfilled. Theres is also no mention of covering burn-in. Best Buys protection plan has no price limit in repairs. If it is replaced you get the new model of the TV, and it covers EVERY thing but physical damage. Any warranty which starts after the manufactures warranty will only cover defects, the same as the manufactures. Which means no power surges, heat damage, burn-in, etc.

Actually purchasing a warranty is an idiot's "feel good" move which has been shown over and over again by every financial source possible to not be worth the cost. They are designed to make the seller money by the barrel full and prey upon the type of people who buy a Toyota Prius "to save money". They will tell you all about their Uncle Louie who had a tv that broke. But just like you can show them they will never make back the money they spend on that Prius, it doesn't matter if you, your Uncle Louie, and your 6 cousins all had failed tvs, it STILL isn't worth it.

I purchased a 4 year warranty with my first 50" plasma. First time I have ever purchased a warranty I usually say no. Anyways at about 31/2 years the Hdmi board went bad. So the price of the warranty was less than what it would of cost. BTW BB was very good with the problem/ warranty. Made one phone call and tech was right out. Came back next day and replaced the board. It's a crap shoot.....worked the only time I purchased one.

Hey, you're right--if you have the disposable income to easily replace a $2000 tv that doorstops after the factory warranty expires. I'm sure that if the state of Washington doesn't require auto insurance by law that Bill Gates doesn't have car insurance either.

I just checked--a VW Jetta TDi costs all of $125 less than a base Prius (comparably equipped models) The Prius has EPA numbers of 51/48, the Jetta 30/42--on diesel fuel which in CA costs more than regular gas.

Visa And MasterCard do as well. My CU offers it as an add on for two dollars a month for my MC Debit card.

I say take back the Samsung and get a Panasonic. Samsung just settled a class action lawsuite for faulty capacitors in their LCD,Plasma, and DLP TV's.

Care to elaborate? Why does BB's plan suck?

I bought one with the last Samsung LCD I bought but never had an issue with the TV. I'm on the fence about buying one for this one. Seems like a waste of money but with my luck if I don't I'll have an issue.
