Here's a nifty trick I'd like to share that I posted on another tv thread:

First here is a way to watch movies from PC to TV with software smoothing, it works, it has different settings for the "soap opera" effect mild to strong:

have been reading you for a while, first time time I post here. I just bought the LG BP420 and I have the following issue with subtitles for video files from USB or DLNA. Subtitles from inside MKV files are showed just fine with a proper size. External subtitles (.srt) are not: their size is too big, sometimes lines wrap one word or even two, so that, for example, a subtitle composed by just two lines (no wraps inside every single line) ends up be shown as four lines (just because a single word wraps at the end of each line)!! This happens both for files from USB and from DLNA (tried the bundled Nero MediaHome Essential and Mezzmo).

Have you guys expirenced the same (may be BP620 owners too)? Is my unit faulty?

Have had the LG bp220 now for about 2 months. Yesterday while watching "Total Recall" had my first freezeup. No buttons would work, eventually it just stopped playing period. I went through 3 cycles of this, trying to go back and watch the remaining 30 minutes I had left on this movie, but gave up after the 3rd try. This is the first freeze I have had. Have watched maybe 8-12 movies in total since buying this machine. I then went to the LG website to see what I could find on this issues. Didn't find much other than to suggest that maybe the movie was scratched or dirty...when I took the movie out and looked at it, it did look maybe a bit scratched and/or dirty...anyway, I have another blu ray movie coming this week so will see if the problem continues. Like I said this hasn't happened yet up until yesterday...fingers will be crossed.

We watched the new Total Recall on Blu-Ray (Redbox) on our 220 about 3 weeks ago and it played fine other then the audio de-synced a couple times.  Paused the movie and started playing again got things synced up again.  That's the only movie so far to have issues so maybe it's something with that particular movie.  There was a firmware update within the past month so make sure you have it.

My BP620 is flaking out fast. Occasionally in the past it would lock up, and I would have to unplug its power cable from the outlet in order to reboot it. Now it's happening daily. Turn it on, and it locks up. recycle its power, it might lock up again or be fine, it's a crapshoot.

Once it boots, it seems to be fine, can connect to internet, play discs, play files off USB drive, etc... but it consistently has to be recycled. Anyone else noticing this? I have the newest firmware, not sure what else I can do.

What is the manufacturer's warranty with this unit? I bought it new in box, but off Ebay, about 6 months ago, so I can't return it to the place I bought it. If it's still under warranty through LG I'll contact them, although I couldn't find any warranty info on their site. If I have to ship it back, get it repaired, etc... I don't think it's worth it when I can buy a new wifi blu-ray player for $80. Thoughts?

LOL. I know. I emailed LG, telling them my situation, asking what is the average service repair cost, but I really don't expect an answer back.

I'm going to wait this out until it plain doesn't work at all anymore, and then get something else. I'm looking at the Sony S590. No offense to people here, but I'm not going to buy another of the same unit after this.

Just got a BP 620 yesterday. I joined to ask other BP 620 owners if they can hear a high pitched whine coming from the Blu ray player's motor. It is quieter when playing DVDs but from 10' away I can still hear a high pitched noise. It seems it's just from the motor design, but I may be wrong. I haven't updated to the latest firmware yet..

I have an LG bp620, and a Sony S590. Get the Sony. You can even use the dlna software that came with the lg, if you've already set it up. Works fine with the Sony, no tweaking necessary.

No. I don't hear it. It's pretty quiet. You may want to try a few different discs and to replace the unit if problem persists.

Hi, and thanks for your reply/help. I've tried different blu-rays and .. same result. We also have an LG BD370 blu ray player from 2009 but it doesn't make that motor whine. The sound seems to be like a harmonic sound from the high speed spinning. I am boxing it up to exchange or return depending on the testing of the replacement 620. I hope it's not the same way with all of them.

I just exchanged my old 620 and this new one still has that hum/whine from the disc motor. As I expected it's apart of the motor harmonics, and not brought into attention of LG when the case was being designed. Maybe I can put some sound dampeners inside the casing.

What Wi-fi connection is it? N, G, B ? I see it says it operates at 2.4Ghz but what protocol is it?

3 questions for you guys about the 620:

1) Does it support flac?
2) Does it play DivX with the latest firmware?
3) Can it access shared folders from a Window machine using SMB?

Hi! Very happy to be here! I have a problem. My LG BP420 is showing no color (I have old reliable Bang and Olufsen tv, no plasma or lcd), everything works but the color (picture is black and white). Is this the Hz problem? Because I can't access this option. Is there a way, to manually specify and select the required upscale resolution OR to change Hz ? Please answer me I am so sad I can't watch movies now on my new player. Thanks!

Are you using HDMI cables? If so, try component cables. It might be a better fit for an old tv.

Can I watch You Tube through the Blu Ray player?

My BP220 model is starting to freeze on me when I play a BD. I've updated the firmware several times, too.

Any suggestions?

I had the same issue with my player (it's from the same model of yours) when i watched a rented copy of Total Recall. By the end of the film, i think it was in the mark 1:45:47 or something, the image froze and the remote control didn't accept any command, so the player reboot it by itself and loaded the disc again. So, i just skipped this part to keep watching the rest of the movie, because i knew if i put in the same part it would freeze the image again.
My player has nothing more than 4 months and i have never had freezing problems like this before, so i think the problem was the disc manufacturing and not our players, as you can see in the blu-ray.com forum(link: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=212328) there are several complaints about freezing problems and audio dropouts in several Total Recall copies, so there's no need to be concerned, our players are just ok.

No I am using 3 chinch (yellow - video, white and red for audio) on my player and scart on my tv, I don't have or use hdmi because of old tv. Sorry for my english. Thanks

Total Recall has 205 M2TS files, this is NOT the way to make a blu-ray!

A bit blurry eyed I have poured over this thread to no avail. I am looking to change the region from a to b and back on an LG BP200 blue ray player. It is to play blue rays dvds from England on a player I have in Canada. Will pressing the Blue key (letter b) then entering 2 work? Really new at this and do not wish to cause any harm by entering a wrong code or something. Any suggestions are most appreciated. I used to have a SEIKI and it was great played everything.

I found this, but don't know if it really Works:

1- Open Setup menu

2- Go to Lock subMenu

3- Select Area Code(if you didn't set the password before, set it now)

4- Choose the abbreviation of a country that is in the desired region

I have a bp620 i was wondering if there is any solution for the white subtitles.. I mean when there is a picture with white background u cant see the subtitles coz they are all white .. is there an option? custom firmware maybe

I also have a 3D play problem with the LG620C (from Costco). I purchased this player in December to pair with an LG 55LW5700 3D display. At the same time I purchased the player, I also purchased a couple 3D movies to try it out. One of the was Prometheus. After updating the firmware, I attempted to play the Prometheus 3D disc (the BD player and LG TV are connected to a Denon AVR2313 with HDMI (ultra hi-speed). The LG TV recognizes the Prometheus disc as a 3D movie and auto-switches the display to a 3D viewing mode. The 3D notification messages appear on screen (in 3D), but then the screen goes blank and nothing ever loads. The result is the same whether I connect the BD player through the Denon AVR or directly to the LG display. I tried this several times since I purchased the LG620C with the same result. I've encounter the same problem playing the regular BD disc (2D BD Prometheus) - won't play. Only the regular Prometheus DVD (480p) would play (all three formats came in the disc packet).

I tried the other 3D movie next - Disney's "Brave." This movie played in 3D perfectly. No issues. So I believe there must be something with the coding on the Prometheus discs that the LG player cannot (yet) handle. My player and TV software are up tp date as of today, 2/24/13, and Prometheus still does not play.

My hope is that LG will figure this out and work a solution into a future software update for either the BD player and/or TV. For now, I am at a loss as to why a BD player and display from the same manufacturer cannot play standard content that they claim to be able to play (3D).

Has anyone solved this issue yet?
