The LG players aren't region-free. I don't think that they can be made region-free without modifying the hardware.
the LG BP620 there is no way to make it multiregion, unless you buy it already chipped.

After doing a lot of research and testing, I found out the blu ray player can handle 7.1 through USB. The audio has to be DTS 7.1 (dolby true HD 7.1 doesn't work don't know why). All you have to do is mux the usual MKV file into a m2ts container with TS muxer. Looks like the mkv container is limited to 5.1 whereas the m2ts (native blu ray file type) is more flexible with that kind of thing,
So for everyone of you that has a 7.1 system and want to take advantage of the USB playback, try that little trick and you'll have the full 7.1 surround sound instead of 5.1.

Cheers!

Regarding the LG BPx20 series of players -

I have read several messages here reporting locking, hanging, and crashing back to the splash screen. I assume this is due to filesystem corruption, and I have wanted to get deeper access to the player through UART in order to correct it. The entire x20 series uses the same main board and processor (MediaTek MT8551), so I thought finding the schematics would be easy enough. I have looked everywhere with no luck. Does anyone know how to get a serial/UART/TTL interface with this series of players?

Thanks,

Steven

LG pb420b - surround sound over HDMI?

Does anyone know how to get surround sound over HDMI with this player. I cannot seem to find a passthrough setting. I'd rather not use a toslink connection as I do not have any free on my receiver.

I have an issue with my player (BP220). When connected to USB, all the video is ever so slightly choppy. Enough to make it exceedingly irritating. Its almost like it plays at 20fps instead of 30fps. Video DVDs play fine - No issue with the low frame rates. I tried different USB flash drives, and USB hard drives, and they all seem slightly choppy. I even burned one of those video files to a DVD, and it was fine. So obviously the issue is with the USB transfer rate?? Any suggestions would be appreciated

I've noticed the same thing with all mp4 files. Mkv files play OK. I transcode all mp4 files on the fly through DLNA using Universal Media Server. That's the only way I can get mp4 files play OK.

HI
I just picked up a BP620 on sale. I have read there are a lot of variation in firmware. I was wandering is there is anyone with a compilation of older firmware versions. that way if there is a problem one could revert back. perhaps even someone with developer experience we can combine the best of all version. If i could get a handful of older version i would see what i can do.

Thanks

I used to own a LG BD 570 and it practically played everything I threw at it.

Last month I gave it to my parents and got the LG BP 620 instead. I have a problem though. Whenever I stream files from my laptop OR play them from a USB flash drive I can't rewind them. When I press rewind on the remote it starts rewinding for maybe 2 seconds and then jumps right to the start of the file. The next big problem is I can't fast forward or more like I can't skip to a certain point in the movie/file. It takes forever! It seems to me that the player needs to buffer all the data up to that point before it can play from that point.

My BD570 did it flawlessly though. When I skipped to the end of a file it did it almost instantly. What gives?

The same problem on bp 420 but it depends on the file format.

Hello to all.
I have had the LG BD660 player and recently I have bought the BP620. Is there any difference in these players at all?
I know BP620 has wifi and wifi direct, besides that, is there any good reason to keep BP620?

I have done some testing of mp4 SD and mkv HD, and it seems to me, that BD660 is better in picture quality...
I was hoping that BP620 could play HD youtube videos, but it does not and there is no way to switch it to HD. BD660 is not able to do this as well.

Do you know of any comparison or testing regarding picture quality of these 2 players?
Thanx to all.
Martin

This thread isn't the most active but it's worth a shot. Anyway my BP620C won't connect to my network anymore. Some times it doesn't show any networks at all but then it will. I'll click on my network then enter the password. I get the little spinning thing for about 20 seconds then it ask for the password again. If I enter it again it just does the same thing over and over.

I called LG since it's just under the year warranty. Get this, for that model the warranty is a year but the labor is only 90 days. They told me the minimum labor charge would be $75. I politely declined. Anyway, has anyone had this problem or is the wifi on the player simply out. The Blu-ray player downstairs and every other wifi device works fine.

Try to verify your network setup.

I have a LG BP620N and after i updated to the latest firmware my mkv-files started to develope some weird artefacts. It's like that small detail in the picture starts flickering when the camera moves. For example a persons hair get's a wavy pattern when the camera moves. It's also very noticeable on horizontal lines in the picure. Looks like some kind of anti-alliasing problem. Anyone else expering the same issue???

I have also noticed that the problem only occurs with 720p mkv files, not with 1080p mkv files or upscaling dvd...

Is that via USB or streamed? I've been streaming to the player via Plex and have not had any issues with 720p or 1080p. I have not tried USB.

Is there any possibility to get the Netflix App on BP420 in Europe working? DNS Change doesnt work. I can only switch between Europe Regions without UK.

Edit/

After updating my german BP420 to newest Firmware. I set up my DNS, changed Region to Netherland, and now the Netflix app is there. It seems like i can watch the US Netflix Stuff.
