Elemental Designs A7-450

I figured I would start a new thread dedicated to the A7-450. This sub is a 18 inch ported sub with a 1300 watt amp. I just recently ordered two of them.

My impressions so far are good. I will post more about these when I get more time with them.

Nice mate. What speakers are those? Its kind of funny to see speakers almost the same height as your sub.

The ed[c]12 that I see on the ED web site is much shorter than what you have pictured. The ones I see on the web site end just below the ports. Are yours custom? Or did ED change the design of the ED[c]12?

Nice clean setup man. Let us know how it sounds over the a5-350';s. I had a pair of a5-350's in my basement for a while and am interested in the improvement.

Robert, I have never heard the caps. I have to admit, I was in the market for more sub because my room is 30x15. Don't get me wrong, the a5350s did a great job but I'm a basshead. I wanted way more bass than I would ever need. I was also looking into the cap 1000s because I just couldn't do the pro amps mainly because not having a place to put it.

I'm not going to compare the two because I have never heard the jtr caps. Plus I don't won't to start a flame war. My reason for going the route I did was because Alex took care of me with customizing the cabinets and also price. The cabinets were shrunk down widthwise and added back to the depth.

Any in room measurements to share?

This beast gets little ink.
Have you encountered their limits with any program material, or test tones? I've always been a fan of this offering/cabinet, as it's phenomenally well braced and robust. I'm interested in it's behavior at it's limits. Can the on-board amp hit the driver's limits, or is the system power limited by design? Can you share your integration efforts with us, i.e., subs/mains/room etc.?

I had them built then changed the cabinet width and that took a little longer.

Haven't played enough with them yet. I got them last Friday evening. Between work and watching my three year old, I'm hard pressed for play time. Lol

Are they a legit 300lbs?!?!?! The are a bit bigger physically than the Captivator but weight lliterally more than double, and that driver in the Captivator is no joke!!!!

That is pallet weight. They are a good 250+ though.

It's going to be lonely in the A7-450 club I'm afraid. Not too many that I've seen mentioned here in the last 4 years. I have had a A7-350 now for 2.5 years and really enjoy it. I can just imagine how powerful the A7-450 is.

When comparing these massive output subs it seems like there isn't much of an issue with flame wars. My submersive/cap thread never turned into that.

Love how mean your new subs look, I wish I could hear these seemingly rare subs!

i hear ya. Just didnt want to tread on thin ice. I want this to be a enjoyable thread where possible customers who are on the fence can come and ask questions about the a7. Compare it to the JTR and of course go ask questions and research in that thread also.

I think you have the wrong subs in mind. Most likely their sealed subs.

you must be mistaken, because I just received these dual subs not even a week ago. I have never run a single test until today on them.

You might be thinking of my old dual A5-350s.
