Everyone knows black Friday prices are excellent. Bought my first Darblet 5000 from AVS when they first got them for 269.00 plus shipping. They sell now for MSP of $319.00. Bought a second one yesterday on Amazon.com, picking AV Science in the "more Buying Choices" window on the side. Got it for $269.00 + Free Shipping and today it says AV Science has six left for the same deal when going through Amazon.

AV Science has them on their Black Friday website. I got one on there yesterday. I just took a look and it is still there today.

Yup, ordered 5 last night through the Big River for my clients. This is truly the most magical "add-on" since Carver's Digital Time Lens.

Subbing out 1 of my iScan Duos for a Black Friday Lumagen Radiance XE later next week. How well will my Darbee and the XE get along?

I can only speak from using a Mini3D with a Darbee, but no issues from me since I replaced the Darbee 1 metre output HDMI cable with a 3 metre one, which goes direct to my projector. I also leave my Mini3D and Darbee powered up all the time and just turn the sources and display on. I'm running the latest Lumagen firmware and a V3 Darbee.

Apparently the Darbee now has a V3 release?

The Darbee Visual Pressence "Feature" section on darbeevision.com, has "Upgradeable after purchase", but I can't find a directions area on how to do it. Can anyone provide a link to this information?

Thanks,
Paul

Edit: Found this in the User Guide:

We are continuing to develop improvements to the Darbee Visual Presence algorithm. Check our website, www.darbeevision.com, for upgrade announcements. Your Darblet is upgradeable after purchase, although you will have to send it in to receive new firmware, and there may be a processing charge.

How can you tell what version each unit has AND what is the latest firmware release that can be upgraded?

They tried to trick me into believing that it was only sellable for atleast 350 dollars, that is what they told me the mike guy. I managed to get it for 330 dollars..
And now they sell if for 270.
Liers.

Which store told you that it will only be available at $349? Regardless, the "lowered" price is due to Black Friday, no? If yes then it's just a temporary sale. If it's a permanent price change then it's messed up.

Yesterday night my darblet got "reset" by itself for apparently no reason in the middle of viewing a movie. Had to put in my settings again.

First, just the quickest of searches and you could easily have bought it for $319 with no effort. Second, with minimal effort it has been posted and I used a code with Solid Signal to get it at $269 prior to any of the sales. Third, I can name hundreds of electronic items that over Black Friday/Weekend is considerably less than normal.

Anyone else having issues with the Darbee and streaming?
The picture will cut out intermittently for about 3-5 seconds then return.
It does this about 3-4 times an hour.
If I turn off the Darbee, then it doesn't have this issue.

It does this using Amazon, Netflix or VuDu.
*I've also had this issue on the Avengers 3D blu-ray disk and turning off the Darbee corrects the issue.

I start having problem with one of my Darblets this morning. Everytime I startup my home theatre (Anthem 700 to Darblet to Pana 8000) I have to unplug and replug the Darblet in order to see anything on the screen. I just used it last night for 8 hours straight with no problem and 8've used this unit since the first day the Darblet was released with no problem

I get that occasionally as well.  I also have the dropouts on 3D and occasional HDMI handshake issues with specific components (Mede8or 1000 mostly).  A bit annoying to say the least.

No problem with the four ways I stream, Roku , VUDU. Amazon, HBO GO.

My dilemma for the past month has been whether to Darbee or to Calibrate. With the recent price reduction on the Darbee, I'm really tempted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but am I really deciding whether I want better clarity (Darbee), vs. better colors (Calibration)?

What will I be missing if I get the Darbee instead of calibrating my Panny 65GT50? Thanks.

This should not be an either/or decision. The Darblet and calibration go hand-in-hand. Calibrate first, then add a Darblet. Proper calibration should be your first priority to give you a baseline before attempting to "tweak" anything.

Can a calibration make the picture sharper? I have a Panny 42S1 sitting right next to my GT50 and I can easily tell that the S1 is sharper. the GT is obviously blacker, but not sharper. My only guess as to why is that I have applied some offsets in the service menu of the S1. So I'm hoping that after a $300 calibration, the GT50 will be sharper. Am I correct to assume that?

IMVHO unless you have set the sharpness control incorrectly, the aspect is not set 1:1 pixel mapped or have some unnecessary noise reduction setting, then calibration doesn't really effect sharpness. I'm a big fan of calibrating and have recently upgraded my Chromapure software to autocal and bought a better sensor, just to give some background. I also have a Darbee and added it after calibrating my projector and I feel it adds sharpness to the picture.

Yeah, I now know better not to trust a seller from AVS.

What Josh mentioned is correct. However, if your budget really only allow youto do either or, I'd go with the Darblet and then put your TV setting to THX Cinema mode. (I also own a GT50, but I calibrated it, since I'm a calibrator myself) biggrin.gif

Before you continue to beat up on Mike at AVS, you should know that he was providing you with 100% accurate information.

On Oct. 7th, the MSRP was $349 and he offered you free delivery.

On Nov. 1, the MSRP was $349, while a price of $319 was available.

On Nov. 23, the MSRP was $349, while a price or $269 for the period of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sale became available.

Mike and his company have integrity and you have characterized them unfairly.

Complaining about price drop during Black Friday is, quite honestly, moronic. Everybody on this forum knows that prices MAY drop during Black Friday.

Should I complain to my car dealer because there is a price drop of $5,000 3 weeks after I bought my car? Should I complain to Panasonic because the price dropped by $1,000 not long after I purchased my PT-AE7000? rolleyes.gif

I'm not rich, far from it, but those are just facts of life. Prices fluctuate.
