Darbee vision darblet - Page 179

Well, I've been away from the forums (well lurking anyway) for a while, but after reading last months' Home Theater Magazine review of the Darblet, I hopped on my trusty AVS Forum to see if anyone else had given this thing a shot, and found this huge thread.

Well, I ordered it right away and it arrived today. Plugged it into my system, and out of the box, it's in full pop mode, set to 105%. Was very noticeable, but way too much.

After some experimenting with both Direct TV (HR 34), and using blu-ray and Netflix fed from an Oppo BDP-103, I settled on 50% Movie mode. TV is a Mitsubishi 65-835. It's fantastic. I'm not sure what magic Darbee has incorporated into this little box, but as said previously, it is like lifting the veil. Maybe a better description, for photographers or photoshop, it's almost like an unsharpmask was expertly applied to the image.

I never would have thought some in-line device would improve a HD signal so drastically aside from going to full 4k. Boy was I wrong.

my cable box and darbee are not playing nice. It says the signal has been compromised and to use the component connections. The picture goes on and off cycling about every 2 seconds.

Other than suggesting their could be an issue with the RGB settings, I'd send an e-mail to the contact address on the Darbee web page. They quickly answered when I sent a question.

My guess is that it is an HDMI issue, not allowing HDCP validation, which is put in place to prevent tapping an HDMI signal stream to access and record the Hi Def video signal. That's why the cable box is giving the "compromised" message.

I've read the darbee works well on bluray. How well does it work on compress signals like cable hdtv?

Kind of like 'I've paid for this feature so I'm going to use it' attitude.

Not sure if anyone replied with this response. This is from my Oppo BDP-103 manual:

"At this time, no disc is encoded with Deep Color. Enabling Deep Color will not magically make colors richer, but will help preserve the maximum precision as a result of video processing and picture control adjustment."

An interesting statement and I'm not fully sure what it means. How does it "preserve the maximum precision?"

Having a similar problem with my Panasonic Projector AE8000u. Cable>Onkyo 5507 AVR>Darbee>Projector.
Today I'll try to eliminate some components in the chain . Works great with my cable box and my Samsung.

A call to the cable company fixed it with a reset from their end.
All good again!

In regards to the HDMI splitter discussion. I am using a Gefen toolbox 1 in 4 out model GTD-HDFST-144.
It has many adjustments and has performed well. The tech support is exemplary as well.

No idea about 5GB and 10GB movies but it works great with the 1080P, 20GB to 50GB movies I have.

The only time I've seen the Darblet possibly be a detriment is when there is very excessive noise or grain in the picture.

The better your source, the better your results. The Darblet works by enhancing details in the source. If the source doesn't have much detail, there's nothing for the Darblet to enhance.

My Darbee seems to have a problem, it has reset itself a couple times in the past week. Meaning all the settinsg seem to go back to factory default settings. Has anyone esle experienced this and solved it?
I received a Darbee for Christmas and I'm thoroughly satisfied with the results on my blu ray content. However, the remote for the Darbee never worked properly. Half of the buttons dont respond to commands, so I had to do all of the setup manually and then hide it back behind my equipment. I sent an email to Darbee customer service, and they responded by having me fill out some form online. That was like a week or two ago and I haven't even gotten a response. The unit is great, but customer service for me so far seems to be lacking greatly. Have any of you experienced any issues with the remote or the unit itself? If so, did customer service take care of you? Just want to know. Other than that issue, the unit works great and my blu ray content is night and day.

I heard people here that have received remotes with a dead battery. This could be your case BadMF222....replace the small battery and see if all the buttons work..

Did you actually do a search on "factory defaults"?  This has been covered many times, including here:  http://www.avsforum.com/t/1399154/darbee-vision-darblet/5190#post_22742231

For years I was looking at he DVDO products, but felt they were a little to far north of my budget. After reading some reviews, I decided to pull the trigger on the Darblet. Not to imply that the DVDO products and the Darblet are comparing apples to apples, but I am very happy with the Darblet and the effect it has on DirecTV and BluRay discs. I have my source components feeding a Denon 2113 which feeds the Darblet. The Darblet then outputs to my Panasonic VT50. You can adjust the effect from relatively subtle to in your face enhanced. I settled on the HD setting at 50%. I haven't tried it on 3D sources yet, but that will be next. The icing on the cake is that Logitech has the unit in their database so it's easy to control via a single unified remote.

Again, it's a decent chunk of change for a one trick pony, but the benefits are well worth it.

I am based in HK? Where are you guys getting the Darblet for USD 269? I only see prices for USD 319... Has there been a price rise or do you need to talk to shops on an individual basis? Thanks

How does this perform with a pt-ae8000.
Whats the difference between this and panasonics detail clarity process. Don't they seem to cancel each other out by doing the same thing?
Sorry for the nooby questions

Have a question regarding the blue LED dimmer on the frontpanel. Is this supposed to turn off when the video signal is switched off?
Because whenever i turn off my other units (AVR, blu-ray, Projector) the blue LED video indicator is till active on my Darblet. Is this normal?
The Blue led is active when it's receiving a video signal.

Yes, hence my question. If my blu-ray player & other units are off it shouldn`t receive a video signal?

So why is it still active?

Some devices always send a signal over HDMI when it is in standby and not actually off. Are you going through an HDMI switch or a receiver? If so try unplugging that device and see if the blue led goes off. Since it's on it sounds like it's receiving something.

EDIT: I just checked my Darblet I have in this room. I am using a Monoprice HDMI 5 port switch with it. And then it goes to a Sony speaker bar. I'm not sure how this blue led works. i just know if I use my Harmony remote to turn everything off, except the HDMI switch the blue LED turns off. But now I see if I turn each device off individually, the blue led is staying on and quickly flashing. In both my setups using the normal turn off procedure with my Harmony remotes, the Blue LED is off. So I'm not sure right now why my blue led is still on.

Panasonic's Detail Clarity is different from the Darbee. I have it turned off on my Panasonic projector. The Darbee is all I want to see, no other processing.
Quote:
Detail enhancement: Panasonic's Detail Clarity feature does add some apparent detail or sharpness. It is a dynamic system, and there will be some tradeoffs. I find the 2 setting to be nice and safe, it adds very little, but there is also no discernable noise or artifacts added. As you up it from there, the image starts appearing noticeably sharper, but with it, there is an expected increase in noise and contrast in the image. This is all about what we should expect. Use judiciously. I like the 2 setting. Three starts some real changes, but by the time you get to 4 and 5 there is not only more noticeable sharpness, but also contrast and noise is definitely more visible. For me 4 worked nicely for viewing sports, and most high quality HD digital content (such as Discovery HD programming), but even for some of that digital content it was a bit too much.

http://www.projectorreviews.com/panasonic/pt-ae4000/index.php

The AE8000 Detail Clarity processor is improved over the AE4000 model but will still introduce artifacts when over-cranked.

Works great with the any decent HD encode, any size. If the content is relatively clear to begin with (regardless of size), the Darbee works well. Old DVD source source material, or any bad encodes that are already fuzzy will not benefit and could look worse.

Good blu-ray encodes from 3-6 gb (720p) and 8-16gb (1080p) look amazing!

I just purchased my 2nd Darbee, for my 47 LCD bedroom. Such an amazing product.
I was just thinking ..
... I wonder what would be like if you took one of the new UHD Oled displays..playing native 4k.., AND added the Darbee to it.

😜
No one knows if/when any of the 4K OLED will be introduced. The 4K OLED displays at CES were just prototypes. The 4K errr I mean UltraHD displays that are being released this year are LCD. And the OLED ones are 2K displays.

I guess the new Lumagen with the Darbee technology built in would be a good idea of what it would look like. SInce the new Lumagen should upscale to 4K while also using the Darbee tech as well. Of course it will be very expensive as well. Their current top of the line process is $3k or more. So with the Darbee technology introduced I doubt it would go down much in price.

I use the WDTV Live Hub and the Darbee has no issues with it. There are other media boxes like the ones you mentioned or these days you can get blu-ray players that will play all types of content and are DLNA certified etc. for under $100. The LG blu-ray players are pretty great for playback of all file types and streaming from your PC or hard drives.
