I have no idea but they are two entirely different things.

OK a direct answer to your question... because many of use don't want a complicated HTPC setup and we want to easily connect a device that we can use with all our video sources that requires little to no intervention once installed.

+1
Then of course there are the issues that an HTPC can bring to your system.

It can learn the commands too,.There are only a few buttons. I programmed my Darblets into my Harmonys when I didn't see it in the database. Either it wasn't there at the time or I just couldn't find it. Either way there are only eight buttons to learn.

A)FFDshow has not been discontinued

B)You do NOT need to be "deep into codecs" to use it

C)FFDshow and this Darbee thing share plenty of features in common. Tweaking and enhancing the picture's sharpness, color, contrast, brightness, and overall fidelity of the image are among them.

With FFDshow being 100% free and this Darbee thing costing upwards of $400, again I ask, why buy this instead of simply downloading FFDshow and using it with your favorite media player? It's a no brainer decision IMO.

For one thing....one BIG thing FFDshow is not going to start its processing options by creating in real time "new" left and right offset images from the original and using that as a base for the levels of processing you choose in which mode per what you like with a particular source. NOTHING does this other than Darbee. Have you read anything really about it?

Ok, I'll say it, I'm impressed.

Added it to my Harmony, impressed it is in their data base. Works better than Darbee's remote.

Yes the Marantz was doing HDMI switching before i was using the Darbee, This is very frustrating, my friend and I ordered ours together and he has no problems what so ever, he is using onkyo, direct tv. Think i might be sending mine back, no one seems to have a solution for the problem.I would of liked to used it with other sources other than just blu ray for the money we spent on it...

Yes it appears for now that it is an either or scenario for me as well.
I like what it does for HD TV and am pleased I can Darbee all the TV's in my home.
I would like Darbee processing for Blu ray as well, but...

I will call Marantz again this week maybe there is a fix available.

I already received a reply from Darbee about my issue with the HDMI incompatibility between Marantz and Darbee when using the Marantz as a video switcher.
They are going to try to trouble shoot using a Marantz component.
Nice!.

That's good to hear,I hope they can come up with something.....They just sent me an email stating that they do not have a fix for it, that was 3 days ago.

If I am using it in HK (which uses 220V) will the following work?
HK 220V AC --> Adapter to convert US 2-prong to HK 3-prong plug --> Power Adapter 5V DC --> Darblet

Darblet arriving tomorrow, so need to buy the correct adapters. I am not sure if this will blow up my apartment or not... wink.gif
post #5441 of 6150
However you do it you have to step down from 220 to 110. If the adapter you plan to use does that, no reason it should not work, they make travel adapters for just that reason.

In those pics probably the best example is the girl at the beach. Look at the detail given to the background, the water, and her hat. It's hard to see the difference sometimes in pics as it really is in person.

The Bird shots also show the detail being improved, and the background of the first behind the car begins to show what can be achieved.

I think it is fairly noticeable on all of them and even a bit too hot on that first one of Craig. It also reiterates that although there is an apparent sharpness increase it is really contrast that is changing which is difficult to explain to those who haven't seen it live. It can be kind of subtle when put in motion but once you are used to it you really notice it when you turn it off.

This is very helpful. My Darbee is hooked up to a receiver in a closet in another room. Now I can program my harmony to control it and not have to run to the other room to change it!

Thanks.

Not to hi Jack the thread but this is associated with Darbee.
I have received a reply from Marantz on the issue of my cable box & Darbee not wanting to work when routed through the Marantz.
Quote:
The video flashing in and out is a common HDMI communication issue simply known as "Video Flash Out." This happens when the TV does not communicate well or consistently with the HDMI repeater in the AV8003. This could also be caused by certain HDCP conflicts stemming from the source or if the TV's EDID is not being read properly by the other devices.

To troubleshoot the issue when using the Darbee, try taking the Darbee out of the equation and simply send a straight HDMI connection directly to the main panel from the AV. At that point, test the consistency of all sources using HDMI. If the sources output consistently, then the Darbee is having an issue communicating with the AV8003's HDMI repeater. To correct this you may need one or multiple HDMI Restorers at the main panel or at all panels. An HDMI Restorer will restore the HDCP content lost and record the TV's EDID so that your devices communicate smoothly when going through an HDMI Repeater. Some examples of Restorers would be a Gefen Detective Plus, an Ethereal SR-1A, an Atlona AT-HD Sync, or a Tributaries HX101.

This can be of benefit to others who might be having HDMI hand shake issues as well.

I will try their suggestions soon. I would like to be able to have all sources run through the Darbee by way of the Marantz and not just the cable box.

Yes would be interested in your findings, since i have same set up as you.I don't understand everything he is saying, you need to have a hdmi repeater at the Marantz?

Hello all,

A first time poster on here, so be nice please!

I have a small problem with my Darbee, I have it in line from my main HDMI output from my Marantz SR-7005 to my display Panasonic VT50.

All works great with Blu ray, Xbox 360 and Cable TV box into the Marantz, the only problem I have is with my Xtreamer sidewinder 3 media player, my blacks turn to grey.

It outputs in X.V. colour is this my problem?

I tried turning of all the picture processing with the Marantz and reset Sidewinder, but my blacks are still grey and washed out, the picture looks terrible.

Can I get any thoughts or tips to help me out, I don’t think I cant turn the X.V. colour output setting off.

When I take the Darbee out of the loop no issue with my blacks.

I love the Darbee apart from the issue with my Xtreamer Sidewinder 3.

Thanks,

Steve.

Seems like the power adapter takes 110-240 VAC so I won't need a step down adapter smile.gif

HK is 220 VAC so I think I just need a very cheap two prong to three prong adapter smile.gif

Does the Darbee make the pixels on a front projector more visible?

Thanks,
Tom
No, it won't.

The pixel visibility is related to pixel density and focus, Darbee doesn't and can't) touch those two parameters.

Hi y'all....

Thanks for the heads up..so far ..so good...still have to play around to get to common ground with both me and the wife..FWIW running the DD Directly into the TV =Panny VT3065...oppo 95...denon avr cs 2311..all components ,other than the DD,running thru HDMI in Denon...Can't wait until I have more time to give this horse some hard riding...PQ on VT30 on Directvis stunning without DD...I can see some enhancements at this point in HD and BD...have not tried 3d yet...and of course, way to early to draw conclusions...but I am not,at this point disappointed...
I don't think you will be disappointed once it's set to your liking.

Well, truth be told,I put in the extended BD version of LOTR ,Return of the King last night, and intended on watching few scenes....But I wound up watching the entire movie!...so,yeah,at this point I am extremely pleased with what the DD does....have to play with HD and DVD as well as 3d before final judgment is passed...but,as of now,2 thumbs up!

Because the Lumagen Radiance with Darbee is not available yet, some models will come with the External Version for now. Talk to them nice and they might give a Special Deal that includes the Darbee Darblet.

Is there any way for me to use an o.t.a. antenna with my Darbee. I have everything but my tv running through my Onkyo 805 and then out to the Darbee and then the tv. My antenna uses regular coax and is routed to the back of the tv.

Not unless you had an external tuner such as a TiVo with an OTA tuner built in.
