Easy way to turn on theater room lights after a movie?

I'm looking for a solution to turn on the lights in the room without having to get up and go to the light switch. I don't need this automated after a movie ends, but I want to be able to turn on the lights somehow from my seat. What are some of the cheaper options to do this?

Do you have kids? If so then have them do it! That's what I do. That's cheap enough, unless you consider the cost college later.

Lutron Maestro:

They sell them at your local Home Depot or Lowes... or at least they do at mine.

+1. Best, cheap option. I've used mine for ten years now.

Too, funny! That's why my Dad always told us he had kids.

You could also look at Insteon dimmers.

Yep, I was also the remote control for the tv. Of course that was a dial back then...

+1, I put mine in this weekend during my build process and for a low-cost option that works with my Harmony remote it's perfect.

I wonder if I can figure out a way to get it to automatically dim/raise the lights using an IR transmitter and Event Ghost.....

Can you use three of these next two each other or do they all use the same IR frequency. In other words can I control three independent bank of lights using the switches?

Maestro's all on the same ir freq. You have one scene you can set so the independent Maestros can have different setting for the ONE scene.

Okay then my best bet is trying to look for a used graphic eye

Or look at what Smarthome offers with the Insteon line as Tom suggested above.

I have a Grafik Eye and it is quite nice and all but, if I were doing lighting control setup today , but I would like for it to have network capabilities like the Insteon line can.

+1, I've saved $600 by saying "Luke or Owen, turn the lights on....please...

You could also go with the Lutron Spacer System dimmers. They can be ganged together and operate individually. You can also set scenes.....

Not "cheap" though..... Somewhere around $80-100 a piece and you'll likely have to go to a lighting store or electrical supply store. You won't get them at Lowes or HD.
This is the route I'm taking when I have some extra cash as they will work with a Harmony Remote too....

I have a harmony remote that is set up to make my remote LED lights turn on whenever i power off the other devices.
