Polk 6000 or Boston Acoustics TVee 30

After reading through these forums and researching alot, I have narrowed it down to the Polk 6000 and the BA TVee30.

I'm asking for people's advice. Can anyone give me iput on these two?

I've got a Panny ST30, Blu-ray player, and U-verse.

Went to Fry's and they had neigher on display. Guy there said that the BA sounded great but had issues with the subwoofer, so they took it down. He said it was being discontinued.

So I'm confused now and coming hear to ask of people who know more than I do.

I haven't heard the TVee 30 but I bought the Polk 6000 for my mom. I've listened to it for about an hour total and it sounds great - not like a full 5.1 AVR system but great for what it is. My mom likes it.

I have a sony HT-CT100 soundbar above my TV which is above the fireplace and when it dies, I will replace it with the 6000 if it is still available then. It sounds tremendously better than the sony. We don't use that TV much as we have a full 5.1 system in the theater room.

I don't know if they are going to discontinue any of the BA soundbars (25 and 30), but you will find their refurbs for a very good discount at their official website ($199 and $479 respectively). The BA 30 refurb is hard to find though.

I think I'm leaning towards the Polk for $410 vs the BA for $530. Both new from an AV guy I know.

I would talk about if I like the Polk; However, I ended up getting a JVC BA1 from JVC for $200. I was swayed by Davyo's vouching for the soundbar and the price difference. That along with the fact that it has two optical in's and it does DTS. I was sold.

I will give input on that although Davyo has spoken

JVC had an error, it was the BA10 not the BA1, time to start the purchase process over.

I'm posting back to state how I like the Polk 6000, which ended up being my purchase. I will post a disclaimer that I have not tried any other soundbar.

As all know, of course this doesn't replace a true surround system.

It is much better than the speakers on the TV. The soundstage is wider, and the sub is respectable for it's size. It gives a little life to movies that would otherwise be pretty dead with the TV speakers.

It's not a home theater experience, but it is an improvement.

I'm satisifed with it given my circumstances (wasn't going to have a seperate receiver, and it had to be a small footprint).

I personally use the TV speakers on high treble, and the the POLK does everything else.

I'm happy with it for what it is - an improvement that gives a little bit of life to sound.

I actually ordered both models at the same time from crutchfield so I could demo them back to back in my house. The Polk seems to have a better surround effect. Polk seemed to be not as well built as the Boston TV30. The Sub on the Boston was tighter sounding. Both are great. I kept the Boston TVee 30.

Just ordered a refurb unit from Accessories4less for 289 delivered. After talking with a BA rep he told me to jump on the opportunity, he assured me the refurb units are as good as new and carry a 1 yr warrantee.

I also asked about the TVee models being discontinued and he insisted they were not discontinuing them. "We've put a lot into this product and expect consumers will agree, there is no way we're going to stop making this superior product."

Can't wait to pair it with my 50" GT50 and Panny 220. Also curious how it will sound hooked to my iPod.

How does the Polk unit work with the existing TV remote? Their website says it learns to respond to the TV remote, but....how does one make the TV stop responding to the TV remote? You'd want to hear this soundbar and not the TV right?

You would need to go into your TV's menu, and under audio settings, turn off internal speakers/set to external speakers.

Just recieved my second refurb unit, first one had a picky IR and wouldn't work >3 feet from unit so it was replaced. The problem with this unit...the subwoofer is so quiet I think elephants would have a problem hearing it. (those of you that watch National Geographic know what I mean)

I've contacted BA and they have me unplugging the unit for 48 hours to reset itself??? I think this unit is going back and I'll give them a 3rd try, after all I did buy refirb unit (at their recomendation). If the third unit doesn't work I'll demand a new replacement or full warrantee and start researching another sound solution.


Anyone else have, or heard of issues with the TVEE30???

I ordered a refurb from Accessories4less for the $289 price. The first one showed up with a broken volume up button. I called A4L who got me in touch with BA. BA paid for return shipment and sent out another refurbed unit. This unit works great, no problems, including the sub which sounds very good. The QC of BA seems lacking in that there is no way anyone at BA "refurbed" or tested the first unit I received.

But I must say, for $289, the working unit I have now is great deal. I'd stick with it until they make it right...you will like how it sounds and you wont get as good of sound anywhere near that pricepoint in a soundbar.

Yes, I'm having issues too. I actually started a separate thread about the issues. My unit was also a refurbished unit from A4L. Looks like I'll be calling them tomorrow about returning it for a replacement.

When it works, it's great. Granted it's my first and only soundbar, but I've been really enjoying the perfomance.

Recieved my 3rd refurb, at least this one works, but the bass is whimpy. Maybe I'm expecting more then I should? Good for a bedroom or small TV room but certainly not for a med. to large room.

Its probably not meant to be used in large room. Mine is in a small to medium room and sounds quite good, for what it is. You're not gonna have the walls shaking for $289 includng speakers and a sub.

Do you have the optical cable hooked up directly to your cable box and the cable box set to dolby?

I've read a lot of reveiw on this unit and there have been complaints....but not about the sound quality.
