Yep, I agree. I don't care how many processors you put in it, the TV's are still clumsy with the apps and web browsing is a joke even on top TV's - totally useless gimmick. I wish they'd spend more time and effort on what really matters, like getting better motion handling, screen uniformity, even more refined color management system, instead of wasting their time with gimmicks which I already have and get in a much better and faster form on an xbox, or a PC... Anyway, maybe they'll get it one day, lol

I got my 640U for $1997 with free shipping, so I don't feel too bad about the new model having a MSRP of $2000, but if I had waited till later this year, I likely could get the 650U for even less, but I didn't wanna wait. The only thing that I would have been upset about is if the 650U was full backlit, but it's not so I'm glad I didn't wait. The 650U does offer a web browser wich the 640U lacks, but I wouldn't use it anyway since I hiave an actual PC connected to my system. I guess now we'll just have to wait to see how the pictue compares, and how much color/picture adjustmets there are.

Yeah, that may very well be the case that it's really the same X-Gen panel that they use on the 640U too. That would actually make more sense anyway. Funny how they don't even mention it on Sharp's own website. In that case, I really wouldn't expect any difference at all in terms of picture quality and color management, etc. If I was to guess, 650U is exactly the 640U, only with a small bezel change for a little difference in looks and with added smart features (full smart central with web browser and dual core processor, none of which matter at all or make it in any way a better TV). I'm curious to see pro reviews (like CNET's), but I'd seriously be surprised if they reveal any PQ difference... Let's see I guess...

How is this tv with input lag? Mainly with a ps3/xbox and call of duty as it's most noticeable.

I have no input lag on my system, everything looks great!

Yeah, no issues with gaming. Sharp TV's have the game mode, which they call the "Vyper Drive" that cuts out all unnecessary processing and motion enhancement and all that stuff that contributes to lagging. So no lag in game mode...

I bought an LC-60LE640U last week at Sears for $1098. They had 3 left. I noticed yesterday there online price went up to almost $1300 and today its at $1499. This must be partly because of the shortage as the 2012's are depleted and the 2013's are not out in big numbers yet. I am using Z-MAD's settings and they look great. I was happy and a bit surprised that my old Pioneer AVR bought in 2004 didn't end up with any audio-video sync issues. I half expected to need a new AVR as the old pioneer has no settings for latency. This new TV replaced a 50" Optoma DLP I bought in 2004 that just crapped out.

My tv is telling me there is a new firmware update available. Anyone done the update yet and know what it does? The Sharp website doesn't have the latest firmward details available yet.

Hopefully some type of optimization. Like disabling motion enhancement when u then it off. Motion enhancement just kicks in when it wants to
post #939 of 1111
Nothing interesting in the update it seems:
Code:
This firmware improves the performance of RS-232 polling commands.

This firmware also contains all previous fixes and enhancements.

LC80LE632UA and LC80LE632UB models must use this firmware version.

Version: 222U1302091

Hey All, I'm using Z-Mad's latest settings including his final Tweaks on post 903. One thing I would like to pass along is to try using his settings and increase the sharpness to +2 and increasing back-light to+3. I'm totally enjoying these slight changes! I guess it's just what I was used too. If anyone tries these tweaks let me know what you think. Thanks again Z-Mad!!biggrin.gif

I also bumped the sharpness to +2 (maybe our eyes are Sh*t, I know mine are smile.gif)

In regards to back light, I turn OPC on and have a range of 0 to +6. It works really well with my bright room during the daytime and dulls down at night. Of course it all depends on the source (cable/blu-ray)

Gents, as you know those latest settings were in the test phase, so as promised, here are the final tweaks which I have settled on and currently have no plans on changing any more. Thank you all as well for the feedback, which has helped look into certain details and achieve the optimized settings. Certainly feel free to tweak to your liking. For me this is it, with correct colors, great pop, and good brightness without taking anything away from the picture quality. Enjoy biggrin.gif

What are the main differences between the 640u and the 600u?? are they pretty much the same besides one being a smart tv?
Z-Mad, now that you have finished up with the 640U- you are going to buy a 650U and get everyone straightened out on the proper settings for it- aren't you?biggrin.gif

Ha ha, sure, maybe we arrange a funding from the members of this forum to buy me a 650U as well, and I'll go ahead and calibrate it, lol. Actually think about it, if everyone pitched a hundred bucks, that'd be easy and everyone would get calibration settings that you'd otherwise pay at least 300 or 400 bucks for, ha ha. I''m just joking guys. biggrin.gif

No, I'm not actually "straightening out" anyone, just offering settings I was able to achieve with a great reference and happy to share with those who are interested in trying them out. Turns out they have helped a few people achieve a great PQ.

Actually, if 650U turns out to be really better than 640U in some of the reviews etc (although I don't really expect it), maybe I'll find a way to swap my 640U for the 650U, who knows... Maybe the 640 settings will even translate to 650 model if they end up the same in terms of panel and main components... Did anyone find any pro reviews yet btw?

You might want to read the last few pages of posts in this forum, as this was discussed several times in detail. Bottom line: it's not just the smart features that are different (which is what the retailers will usually tell you), but there is also a significant difference in picture quality. Most people who got the 600U exchanged it right away for the 640U, including myself. Get the 640U, the small price difference is more than worth it! Good luck wink.gif

I was asking because i can;t find the 640u anywhere near me, and i really dont want to order one. But the closest bestbuy to me has the 600u in stock for $999. But they also have the newer 650 in stock for $1199. I'm currently on my second vizio e601-a3 and i'm returning it tomorrow and was planning on one of these sharps. i'm guessing i should just go ahead and get the 650

I would stay far far far away from the 600u unless you just don't care about your money. If you want the Honda civic with no power steering or power windows and no AC, get the 600u. That's lull it is, base model with absolutely the same features a a 1988 hotel TV right down to the remote

@Z-Mad: Thanks for posting those final settings, I tried them on a 650u purchased last night. Even to my untrained eye the difference was enormous. Skintones are much better and content on the animal and nature channels looked more natural. There's a couple other issues I need to work out but that was a huge help.

I see. You would certainly be better off with the 650U, which is in all likelihood same as the 640U, only the 2013 model. I'd expect as good as no difference in picture quality, although it is still to be seen what the tests will reveal. So if you need to pull the trigger now, just go with the 650U. That's at least what I would personally do biggrin.gif Certainly stay away from the 600U as leroy lee said.

Hey, no problem, glad if the settings were in any way helpful. I was wondering if they might end up translating well onto the 650U as well, since I expected the 2 models to be pretty much the same in terms of picture quality. Small variances would be of course normal even within the same model, but I didn't expect big differences. What issues are you having with the 650U if you don't mind me asking? Just curious...

Well, two things mainly:
1) Not a real "issue" but after 10 years watching a 720p rear projection, it's a little difficult to adjust to a 1080p LED backlit. Meaning that I've found it easier on the eyes to use "high level" motion smoothing for fast moving content like a basketball game. But either "low level" or "off" is better for slower content. Kind of the opposite of what most folks do, I think.

2) Netflix and the other apps work great. But my hope was that with a more modern webkit based browser + dual core I'd be able to pop up pbs.org and watch streaming content entirely through the set. Unfortunately viewing embedded videos is basically like watching a slideshow, full screen doesn't work, and then it ends up crashing the entire browser. Plus the mouse is jerky and there are little bugs here and there. For example the edit box for changing the home page is not changeable because using using backspace to delete text sends you to the previous page. Little stuff like that but it's isolated to the browser functionality only.

Having said all that, after 5 hours of usage I'm definitely happy with it.

Hey guys, I must apologize, as I just realized that I had messed up my post on the finalized settings.
When I was typing the post I looked at my notes where I write down my settings as they progress, but forgot that I had made changes that were in my TV but not on paper yet. My bad, lol biggrin.gif
The difference is only in yellow and green luminance, which I was working on refining last. So a few values are different in CMS settings for green and yellow. Not sure if it will be strongly noticeable in some of your cases, but wanted to make sure I shared my proper settings. I made the adjustments in the original post (#942), which I just edited.

Cheers biggrin.gif

Hmmm, can't give you any specific advice on that one. I use a Sony sound bar with my TV, and it does have an audio sync feature, but actually I don't really use it, since I use GAME mode and there is no lag. I may have to try using the sync feature with STANDARD mode just to check how well it works.
Anyway, whether you go for a soundbar or a receiver, I guess one would want to go with something that has well adjustable audio sync options. Just one auto sync setting may not get it done... Gotta do some research on specs of different receivers...
For new receiver I went with $200 85w ONKYO TX NR414 which is 5.1. It has auto and manual lip sync adjustments. Did the trick. And now my system is all HDMI connected.

I know I'm a new member but I have often come here to find recommended TV settings. I want to share the settings I've got on my TV (LC-60c6400U. I know everyone has there own personal preferences and I'm just sharing mine. Maybe it can help someone. Try them out and let me know what you think. I have a generally bright room but often watch TV late at night. I find these settings to be a good balance.

I bought a LG BH6720S at Christmas. Got it for a little over $200 at the time. I love it. I took me a while to tune it like I wanted. Works great and it works with the Aquos sync to turn off the sound on the TV when I have it on. Lasts system wouldn't do it. Even got it to work on Direct TV remote. smile.gif
