A fanboy thread is an excellent idea.. I love my 60" ES8000 to bits. Already completely used to the 5" drop from the awful 65" I had prior. Still looks big and beautiful. Watched some serious Netflix on it today in fact.. 6 hours of "nightmare next door". So nice without vertical banding.

Watched the 3rd Sherlock Holmes last night; siiiick level of sharp detail and blacks and shadow detail stood tall. Extremely enjoyable and didn't leave me wanting....nice on the 8000 even with the muted color paper that the the " director intended " us to see.

...You know me Garnoch, its been easy to show restraint and sit back on my original FW 1013...Once I see a FW come through that has 90 days of numerous 90% positve review on picture quality specifics I would probably do the upgrade...I absolutely have interest in the EVO kit and would spend 400 ish IF....only IF it had proven pic quality upgrades. As you know I use my Sammy e6500 for SmartHub and streaming and have had a drama free life running updates and maintaining full functionality with regard to the hub.

...Cool, if I can get away from my football, hockey and my DIY bathroom renovation project I may just do this. Since we have this thread for troubleshooting and "issues" the addendum may be just what the doctor ordered ,,,,

Unfortunately I had to schedule a repair for my 65" today. Since this morning I've had the problem with the TV powering off and then on again over and over. I left it unplugged for a couple of hours, and it worked for about 15 minutes, but then started the power off/on loop again. Luckily the service center it was scheduled with is only 4 miles from my house, so hopefully it will be a quick repair.

I had a new main board put in for the same reason under warranty. The part number they put in according to the invoice does not match the part number that all the websites are listing as the main board so im sorta confused

LISTED MB: BN94-05566C (Tons of Listings)
INSTALLED MB: BN94-05584M (Not very many listings)
UN55ES7500FXZA

if anyone knows the difference between the 2 let me know? i did notice scrolling menus seem alot more "choppy" since the new board was put in and the hub is slower
TV is still listed as a un55es7500 under "contact samsung"

Board came with lastest firmware

That's interesting. Who knows how Samsung handles their part numbers, but it would almost appear that the board you received is a newer board, but can't be certain. When did you have the repair done? Have you had any power on/off cycling problems since the repair? How quick was the repair done? Also, right after mine powers on I get audio and then the video usually goes either pink or blue with a bunch of digital noise on the screen. After about 5 seconds of that, the TV powers off and then back on and that keeps repeating itself. Were you also getting the weird colors and digital noise on your screen, or was it just powering on and off?

Tv would freeze then turn off. I had it repaired a few months ago. They over night the part and installed it within a few days of my support ticket being created. I orginally though maybe it was an updated part number but its been months and the other one is still whats listed. Maybe ill call the repair center and ask. The tv does not power down anymore

hello
Easiest would be to use the Movie picture mode which does not dim dark scenes, whereas Standard picture mode dims dark scenes.

There is also another dimming mode: depending on the Brightness setting, backlight is also dimmed when the picture signal input is completely black. The effect is that flashlighting and clouding becomes less visible. Personally I like this dimming mode. If Brightness setting is set at 45 or lower, this dimming is activated. If it is 46 or higher, it is not activated.
A brightness setting of 45 or 46 would give lowest black level. So 45 or 46 is recommended.

That is a good tweak turboman. This is one of the most usefull tweaks for someone who doesnt want to pay for a calibration yet wants excellent options. It works well for me especially since I have Standard mode set so I dont crush darks as compared to movie mode. I've done extensive back and forth on source material to make sure of that. The only time I could see bumping down to 45 from 46 is if the flashlight would pop too heavily...but that has not occurred.

FYI.....

I turned my TV on this morning and "Update" popped up in the right upper corner for about 45-minutes.... It froze my TV, no volume etc... When it finished my Smart hub version; 4.519-5.0 got updated to 4.531-5.0.... So far so good. smile.gif

I am wondering if anyone knows how to get sound back from the TV to a an AVR? Using ARC seems to be the right plan, but I don't want it to come with any other nonsense like automatically turning other comoponents of/onn when I turn the TV off/on. Where do I enable ARC?

I personally prefer just using a Toslink optical cable for sound from TV to AVR. I have never messed with ARC.

ARC seems to do some funky things so I wound up turning it off and using an optical cable too.

Same here. Finally lost all my apps only to have most of them re-downloaded. All is good though.

Something I noticed last night when toying with the SmartHub menu, I have that default "water" theme on mine and when selecting different options on the menu and going back and forth the color on the water seemed to change from a greenish blue to a nice clear blue, not on certain menu choices just periodically.

Any specific reason for this? Anyone else get this? Reason to be alarmed?

A brightness setting of 45 or 46 would give lowest black level. So 45 or 46 is recommended.

And if something like Black Tone or Dynamic Contrast is on, that number may need to be bumped to 47.

Black Enhancer is a CE like option that exists in the mode without CE, Movie mode.

To diminish actual CE Dimming in Standard mode, see the Guide link in my signature and check out the second set of Standard mode settings in my settings link to get an idea of what to do.

It's normal. When you first go to the smart hub it defaults to the original setting ie.... Standard. But if you call up the smart hub while on movie, dynamic etc... It will then switch to those settings shortly after resulting in any slight color change differences between the picture modes you have set.

Garnoch, I decided to order a 65HX950 after checking out a few different BB floor models at three different locations so I can gauge what to expect in regards to banding, blooming, etc. Ordered from Amazon after the positive experiences many from this thread have had with them instead of using BB again, especially after the condition of the boxes that BB delivered and the fact that I hate how they open them at the warehouse prior to delivery. A Little more than what I wanted to spend on a panel, but figured I really didn't want a plasma unless I had no other choice and am not confident in the 65F8000 correcting the vertical banding issue, so figured I'd check out the Sony for now and decide if I like it enough to keep it or send it back and wait on the other two. I've returned so many panels at this point, what is another one or two should I decide the Sony is not worth the price tag. Should have within a few days.

Well I have the standard setting set, its tweaked with some of the users recommended settings from this thread, but I don't use the Movie/Dynamic modes yet.
So is it switching between the default standard settings and my tweaked ones then?

I think it is auto switching from initial default standard when you call up the hub to switching to tweaked standard after a few seconds.... But it did this on all seven of the es8000s I had so I don't think you need to be alarmed especially if someone else confirms theirs does it as well.

If I remember right, you have to treat the hub as another input and redo your settings there as well. You may have already done this but I seem to remember it throwing me off at first.

Garnoch's correct. The Smart Hub is simply another input or source and has its own picture settings. If it bothers you, you can redo the settings to match what you use during normal viewing. I personally recalibrated mine using the AVS cal files, but it probably wasn't necessary.

So I just got my tv replaced with a new unit because I noticed the seam on the right side had about a 1/8 inch gap between the Black Plastic and the Bushed Aluminum piece, and I felt would cause issues if dust was able to collect over time because the gap was big enough to look into and see lighting. Here's pics of both sides.

.

When the new unit showed up, I checked both seams to see that they were flush tight. I got the tv up on the wall mount (Rocketfish Low-Profile Tilting), and I'm not sure if I'm just paranoid but it looks like that gap is coming back?!

I'm beginning to think it's something to do with the way the TV hangs on the wall mount that's creating a torque effect or something thats putting pressure on the frame.

Is anyone else having similar issues? and can anyone suggest a fix?
I wouldn't worry about it. I've seen the set apart when my panel was replaced. The bezel trim is just decorative and has nothing to do with the panel itself. Enjoy your set!
