Need some help here please.. I'm going to buy the UE40ES8000 but I nticed it is almost the same price of the UE46ES7000. Do not know what to do?? Micro Dimming Ultimate vs Micro Dimming??
Interesting info on the F8000. 30% brighter 3d images.... I thought the Es8000 3d was plenty bright.... Anything brighter might be like looking at the sun.

I would get the 7000. I was at a friends house a few months ago who has a 7000 and I couldn't see any difference in picture quality between his set and my 55es8000. I guess if you are really into the smarthub stuff and apps maybe the 8000 is better but if I could do it all over again I would have either gotten a larger panel for the same $ or saved a few hundred bucks.

If its the same price, I would get the 8000 versus the 7000. Also you may not be able to upgrade it every year with the 7000. Not sure what the specs are in the UK though. As far as the dimming though, you probably won't notice the difference if there is even a difference as Samsung claims there is
Arenaman,
since your FW updates are way ahead of ours, did you notice that the stutter got any better with the newer updates? Can't remember if it was you or someone else that said before the updates it was worse, but now with the new updates its better, but still get a little studder?
No improvement in stuttering as far as I can see, it's still very rare I see it though. The improvement in PQ more than makes up for it though.

Thanks.. Is there any difference in the browsing performance from the Youtube and other internet video streaming channels like Netflix and lovefilm.. And I would like to buy the one I can upgrade without problems..

What FW are you guys on now, like 2001.1? We're still on 1041...
2004.1 now. Haven't you been on that since October? We had one in October (1021) then have had 2002 and 2003 before 2004.1, strange, you're usually ahead of us with technology type stuff.
I'm not talking about different size.. The 40" 8000 or the 46" 7000.. I really want to know the difference between the 8 and 7 series.. though I can't really see a big difference in the size between 40 and 46" ..

We've had 14 updates since launch in total
I am really looking forward to these updates. Yea, I don't know what happened, we used to be ahead of you guys With the FW updates. I also realized that there hasn't Been many users from the UK on here since you guys had all these updates, and wonder if its because now everyone there is happy with their sets. Do you think we will all notice a big difference in the picture once we get the updates?

The October update totally sorted motion issues (apart from stutter) and 2004.1 has massively improved PQ on HD, it almost looks like blu ray on a decent feed now. SD looks a little better but you know how it is, it still looks poor compared to HD. The smarthub is lightning quick now, we don't seem to have the bug where it flashes on the screen either.
The 65" panels seems to be as poor as yours for banding, I don't think I've heard of a good one yet and few people with smaller sets have been having uniformity issues too but that's how it is with this technology unfortunately.
I've been running some greyscale test slides and I'm happy with my panel's uniformity
Are we sure that this stuttering issue is the TV and not the source? Though 99% of my viewing is on Sky HD I've never noticed stuttering on freeview, freesat or bluray.
I occasionally get stuttering, not that it bothers me much but none of the MP settings make it any better or worse, clear definitely gives me the slightest motion blur so I keep mine off
In my case I believe I have eliminated the source as the issue. I have played the exact same content on my 52B750, and the content does not exhibit the issue. The stuttering I am seeing looks like frame drop, happens every 10-20 seconds during playback when I try using AMP Custom settings. It's unwatchable. When I set AMP to Clear, the issue goes away. But, Clear has its own issues (artifacts), so I don't want to use Clear.
I'm trying to get my Dark Knight Blu-ray back from my dad so I can use it to test artifacting on Clear. The open shot of the buildings in movie exhibit flickering when AMP is set to high. The shot is a motion torture test. If this occurs on Clear, then I will deem Clear as an unacceptable setting, and the TV is going back. Edited by sharkcohen - 1/22/13 at 10:31am

I'm still with what came on mine in October (1034). After reading how many users said their sets looked worse after FW updates I turned it off. I never had the Smarthub flicker but that's a separate update we have no control over. I don't have motion prolems and mine is set to Clear.
Time for cmay to move along now to the Sony threads, leave us Samsung owners alone now...
JK, of course!
Good luck in Sony world.
Too bad no one ever posts in the HX950 thread. This Samsung thread and its participants are still the best between the Panny , Sony and Sammy threads that I post in.
Cmay, congrats on the hx950. Have you looked at the sharp elite? The reason I ask is because the 950 exhibited a lot of blooming where as the elite was near perfect. the elite comes in a 70" as well. Its the best full array I ever seen. The 950 is good too but didn't care for the blooming. Also, the full on black is better than the vt50 but just like the elite the vt50 smokes the contrast ratio on the 950 when using the ansi checkerboard pattern which is a more real world measurement to determine contrast ratio. No one watches a full black screen, which is why i prefer the ansi. Hdguru mentions this in his review of the 950.
Samsung has been doing some updating on the Smart hub so I think this is why this happened to you. I know for me, as soon as I turned on my sets this morning, it said "updating" on the top right hand corner. I don't think its anything to worry about right now. If it keeps doing it, then yea, there may be an issue with one of the boards, but I would wait and see and If it continues then call Samsung to have a tech come out and see

We basically have no control over the Smart hub updates, but have full control over the FW updates
So a quick little follow up on this. I came home from work today and my TV had turned itself on again. Also I was away over the weekend and apparently it did this a couple of times whilst I was gone.
I have just installed the latest firmware, other than that I'm out of ideas. It has never turned itself off, just seems to like turning itself on...weird.

And for that, you get "Alumni" privileges to post here whenever you want.
Good luck with the new set! Glad you found a keeper.

I've never had mine actually turn itself on nor off. But recently mine would turn on the voice command choices written at the bottom of the screen ("say turn TV off" , say this, say that, ect.). They would just appear there for no reason. One time I waited and they just stayed there, they wouldn't go away. So I turned Voice Commands off and they went away. I'd check and make sure that stuff if off. Maybe the parokeet is watching The Bird Lovers Cooking Channel while you're gone.

Yeah I have the voice and motion control turned off, so I have no idea why it keeps happening. Hopefully the update will fix it, if it doesn't then I smell a refund.
Does anyone have a problem with artifacts/halos when using AMP on normal or smooth.. When images pan the screen, it completely fills the image with artifacts when the image moves to fast. i threw in a first person shooter, turned amp to smooth. When looking around quickly it looks awful.
