On a side note, it's been a rough week and it's over - for now. I'll be raising my glass to you guys (probably as I reset my set for fun (curiosity test) so feel free to do the same.

its about 3 inches frm the edge of the screen

I was going to return the tv so i disconnect the tv but then looking at it sitting in the corner i decided to try a few diff setting did a factory reset and re-added nitra's setting in and couldnt be happier with it for now, No idea what happened but yesterday after awhile it looked like it was all washed out

I would try Garnochs "Movie" settings since Nitras are kind of outdated now with the new FW.
I wish David K from Cnet would consider re doing his calibration tests for this model since at the time he did it, the TV didn't look so awesome as it does now.

That would be awesome. Those guys never do that though and I understand why, but it would still be awesome.

HA! And hey, i didn't say what was in the glass, it could be water - don't want to offend anyone because we're all adults. smile.gif
P.S. It's not water and it's well needed and deserved tonight (Starts with a J, ends with an S) biggrin.gif

Click on his Avatar or under it and it will direct you to them. I would try Standard mode because for me and a few others, its the standard mode that really looks better on some panels. I haven't dialed in his settings yet, so that can change once I do, but I'm really digging using standard mode right now. Especially for movies with letter box bars. You can find those under his name as well. He just updated everything so they are still fresh where as other sites settings are kinda stale now

Nice man! Love those speakers.. Which model are they? I was thinking about picking me up a pair of Klipsch recently, but never got around to it. How do you like them?

Now that they're dialed in, I'm not even sure which I like better, but they almost look exactly the same. This week is Movie mode and next week will be Standard. In addition to the info Anthony gave, they can also be found as a direct link to them on page 117 (or like three pages ago) under this post in my signature, along with the Guide link - if you have the preference turned on to see signatures.

Ha, yes, I'll change that now. You won't see much of a difference if you turn it off either to be honest. It does help with getting the calibration files to look right on my set though. Any difference with new settings? Turboman has some nice ones floating around too, but they were for the last firmware.

BLADE! DON'T DO IT!!! haha

Good, man. Glad they helped you - whether its your panel or eyes it help, it really doesn't matter haha. Love those speakers. You have to compare notes with RicoFB.
I moved up from a 55" too. Unfortunately you can't go smaller, so I'm afraid of what my next TV might be. smile.gif

Blade, my man, I know you have said you had some flashlighting where the letter box black bars and the corners and I can tell you that if you update to this last FW, and try out standard mode, you will love what you see even more than now. Trust me! Trust Rico and trust the employes at BB that couldn't believe it either and DO IT! Then disconnect it from this crazy world again.. That's what I did and I couldn't be happier. I'm even buying another 60" instead of waiting for the new F8000 to come out since I can't imagine it to get any better then this.

Another thing is you like your TV set up like Rico and I, where its really "Vivid" and gives you that super amazing "pop" you will get even more pop than you do now, and your viewing angle will be much better just in time for "SuperBowl" smile.gif

I have been following this thread ever since I bought my 65"8000. After being delivered I set it up using your settings and it looked great - much better than the default settings. However, 6 days now after receiving it the entire unit crashed and won't even start up. The tech that came out today couldn't get it powered so it's going back. Now, this is the question - I was offered in return a Panny vt50 if I wanted it that got returned in an unopened box for $415 less than I paid for the Sammy since the sammy was on back order. I went to see their panny demo and it looked stunning but it had a completely different pic than the Sammy - much darker. Looked more realistic but didn't have the pop/brightness the sammy had. I'm wondering if you or anyone else would rather go for the panny and save the $. I truly respect your guy's opinions and expertise.

Honestly, before this last update, I would let others reply to this as I've never seen the VT50 in person yet, but I will say that this TV is super amazing now and gives an incredible "pop" now. I see you own the 65" which is plagued with issues, I would try another or downsize to the 60" which has a better panel then the 65". Since I own both, I can honestly say that the 60" is almost like a different TV because of the different panels. Maybe try another one? Where did you buy it from? I ask because Amazon has a deal where you get a free sound bar right now.

Just sweeped up a pair of Kef Model 7's 2channel speakers for only $299. Has anyone here heard of these or know anything about them? It looks like $300 is a amazing price. Got them on Amazon for a spare bedroom, not the part time Mancave
post #11305 of 16127
I don't know anything about those speakers but Kef makes some good speakers and for an extra room, I think they'll probably be great. That seems like a really good price so hard to go wrong. smile.gif

Oh and wish me luck. I'm resetting my ES for fun in about 93 seconds.

First, welcome and sorry to hear you wound up with a lemon. All manufacturers have their lemons though - unfortunately. Some people like Plasma so I can't fault them for that. Everyone wants what they want, but if the question is would I personally give up my ES for a VT in order to save $415 - no I wouldn't, but that's just me. If you find you're going to be mostly watching in dim lighting and like the picture and will be okay with plasma's set of issues (LCD has their won too), then I could understand you doing it. But if you loved the ES for your environment, then just think about it good first.

After the reset, the default settings look SOOOOO much better!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit:
I'm joking. I forgot how bad these TVs looked with default setting. It defaults to Standard with a Sharpness of 20 and Dynamic Contrast on High, not to mention everything else that's wrong with it. Now I remember why I thought my TV was broken when I first plugged it in. All the poor people using the default settings and not knowing better bothers me. Why don't TV makers default to as close to a perfectly calibrated TV as possible out of the box?

Edit 2:
Now I'm going to put my settings back. So for those of you wondering what to do after a reset.... YES PUT YOUR SETTINGS BACK! Then tweak as needed if it's called for.

Lol! That's what I was trying to tell you! Isn't it weird that you have to do a "Full" reset in order to see this? About the speakers, I can't believe I bought them for only $300 no tax free shipping. Cnet has them listed as being $1,200! That's crazy! Lol!

I thought you were serious. That's strange because my sets looked pretty close to getting that super sharp amazing "pop" that I love. Your taste is a more "natural' look. Which is really the right way, but I love that extra extra pop that this TV can push if you let it. I have no idea what the default in Movie mode looks like, since I changed it to your old settings right away, but the standard setting, looks pretty close, except for a few settings, like sharpness and color and color space. Also, I would think that if Samsung updated their default settings in standard mode with dynamic contrast on High, then that should mean something right? Especially from how they explain the Micro Dimming "Ultimate" being enabled and controlled by the Dynamic Contrast. I think high is too much though, but I was able to calibrate it with the THX app so that theirs no crushing at all.

I support this too, the picture characteristics of my 60" are significantly different to my returned 65". Looks much better.

Ha wow, you were quick. It would have been fine I guess in general if Sharpness wasn't 50 and DC on High. I am finding some slight differences though, like my Color setting is back to a normal looking setting yet looks the same as when I had it higher before the reset. Very interesting. I'll report back later or tomorrow with the slight changes. Well I'll say right now, the only adjustments to Standard I had to make was Color to 48 instead of 51 and I could get Contrast to 96, instead of 94, before it negatively effected things.
